Title: WinXP + gameport pedals and X45?
Post by: Redwing on September 07, 2003, 01:53:38 PM
Since my old trusty logitech stick won't support gameport pedals in winxp (that's what it says on the logitech website) and still I badly want to get back into AH I guess it's about time to get some new hardware.

I was thinking about getting the Saitek X45 USB, price seems fair and from what I've read in this forum it's a good stick. I can't afford new pedals though, so I was wondering if my old gameport CH pedals will work with the X45 in XP home?

I don't wanna end up without working pedals again after scraping the money for the stick together, so any advise would be appreciated.

You cannot mix USB and Gameport devices.

Uh?  Not true!  I have been playing with a Saitek X-45 with CH pedals (analog) for ages.  You can also buy a gameport to USB adapter from Radio Shack for around $16.00 and plug it into a USB port as I now do.  When you do your calibration for the pedals, it is defined as the second stick as USB ADAPTER and skip all but the z-axis settings.  They sure work well for me.  Oh, and I run on XP home edition.

All the Best...

Thanks Doc1kelly!!

I fooled around with my old ch pedals awhile ago trying to get the same setup with no luck, I had an old adapter laying around from a retired JS.   The setup work perfectly in Win xp pro.

Thanks Doc!

Unfortunately the gameport to usb thing didn't work, XP just didn't recognize the pedals on the USB port.

Doesn't matter anymore though, I tried something different. I hardwired the pedals into the throttle controller in place of the rocker switch. Works like a charm, the X45 doesn't even know anything has changed.
And since pedals and X45 are one unit, I can even use both in older games that don't support multiple controller IDs.

Of course, doing this voided my warranty, but that's a lot better than spending another 150 euros on USB pedals or flying with a rocker switch...

Thanks for your replies guys.

Redwing, for future reference...and I believe it was posted here some time ago. Just buy a cheap joystick or use your old one, plug it into your CH pedals and then the game port. XP will recognize it and you can calibrate your pedals. XP will also recognize your Saitek stick also.

I have a Saitek USB 35 and CH analog pedals. I used a very old Thrustmaster (my 1st stick) for the dummy controller. Works like a charm and haven't had any problems for the past couple of years.

When you go into AH setup, just pick the right joystick to assign your pedals to.
