I have an idea on what to do instead of the CT, which, even though I like, whenever I entered during my two weeks trial I was the only one there. So obviously it's a flop.
How about placing the same terrain as the MA inside the CT but instead of WW2 planes, you could put in early jet fighters. The ones which fought in Korea up to the mid 60's.
How hard would this be to do? Not much I think because all you'd have to change are the flight models.
The other good thing is that the early jet fighters (unlike the ones we have now), didn't have many AA missiles and still used to dogfight using guns. Also, the AA missiles they did have were short range.
Another reason I think this wouldn't be a bad idea is because you already have a base to work on, which is obviously the ME262 and AR234.
I think this could be an interesting alternative to the WW2 prop planes with little effort on the programming part.
Anyway, I'd definitely play it!!
What do you guys think?
-
I'd prefer an arena for early WWII fighters only (1942-43) than an arena for post WWII fighters. Jets are for other sims I think;I consider this a dedicated WWII sim.
Anyway I dont know what directions is HTC developing. :D , just my feelings ;)
-
Yes but if there is an arena with early jet fighters, you'll be attracting a whole new type of flight simmer. The ones who prefer jet power to props. Then if you could double the members, you could use the extra money to improve the WW2 props part of the game as well.
Making another arena with just early WW2 planes will probably mean you'll have the current MA server numbers go down a bit and the rest will be in the early WW2 arena. I'll doubt you'll get extra people to sign up.
Anyway, was just an idea.

do even play AH?
-
Whether he plays AH or not, he does have a point. There is indeed a market for jet sims. Korea would be excellent.
Granted, squakin hen has been rather, shall we say, vocal, but he does say whats on his mind. I just don't agree with most of it. I do this however.
-
yes it does
especially since this same idea has been posted many times.
I dont think HT has shown any interest in an "early jet" sim or a korean one at that.
This guy doesn't play or even like Ah now hes going to suddenly embrace it if a jet arena is added.......
I'm sure hes got a million other things that he thinks HTC needs to do.
-
Thank-you Apache. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one who would like to see this.
Anyway, I am going to subscribe to AH probably in about two weeks time.
-
I agree with both wotan and apache. squalking chicken is a pos who has no clue about online sims or real cars and doesn't even play and.... a korean sim would be fine with me but I probly wouldn't be that interested.

I have to admit he's got a point, and I like his idea.

AKDejavu...thanks for the link. That's the first I've seen of it.
That just proves there's a market for it. Why doesn't HTC take advantage of it? Especially when I'm presuming there wouldn't be much effort needed considering most things are already in place in AH.
There's even the carriers for the perked Phantoms. :D

Cool! Hey! Allow the AH ubb community to assist you with possible handles you could use! How about:
Squab
Turkey
LameDuk
Bent
Stump
Dullard
NotBrite
NoSplitS
UbbTroll
DoDoBird
NoFriend
DwebHunt
NoChkSix
Bounty
LameAss
IMO these are choice. :D

And you people try to pass of as plane enthusiasts? Or maybe you consider yourselves just WW2 era plane enthusiasts? I'll tell you one thing. I'm a real enthusiast. If it can fly, I like it! Anything from the Sopwith Camel to the SR-71.
Or maybe you're just WW2 prop plane online flight simmer enthusiast and hate real planes and planes in general?
which one is it?
-
So...when targetware comes out with their Korea game with jets and stuff....will you leave? Please?
-
I dont think there is a very big market for Jet Sims. Theres not even a very big market for flight sims.
-
Further, just because there is a market doesn't mean a business should go out and grab it. I think one of the reasons HTC is apparently doing well at the moment is they have remained focused primarily on one thing; flying. All aspects of play are designed to enhance flying, therefore the main thrust of development is towards delivering a quality flying experience. As the market evolves we have noted pushes in other directions as well, but always the primary concern is flying.
HTC has already said there would be submarines and grunts in the next year; this should not be construed to mean they will be fully fleshed out as in a stand-alone fps or sub simulation. It does add a new dimension to gameplay nonetheless, and gives the pilots something else to think about.
This is not WWIIO; ironically it may wind up succeeding where the other appears to be failing, why? Because we all know walking in what is the primary focus of the game. We understand how the other pieces fit into the picture, and hopefully won't try to micromanage every aspect (too much anyway) of the fps and sub aspects. WWIIO touted a complete implementation of all aspects of the game, and sadly this appears to be beyond their grasp.
This in my opinion is why it is a waste of time to compare AH to WWIIO.
-
If the above is confusing, here is the condensed version; HTC's niche is WWII aerial combat, period.
-
Anyone else see the contradiction in Kieran's post?

Excuse my ignorance, but I think jet fighters have more to do with flying than subs or grunts.
Hitech should look into what I said if he hasn't done so already. What has he got to lose??

Subs were in WWIIO. Jets, for the most part, were not. You can use WWIIO planes to hunt for subs. Subs were a real threat to fleets (CVs), hence a threat to mobile airfields that WWIIO prop planes (not jets) could use.
Making sense?
And before you parse out the other aspect I mentioned, yes, there were grunts in WWIIO. In fact, in ground attack missions (in prop planes, but not jets) WWII pilots often tried to strafe them. So you see, WWII had grunts.
But not (many) jets. ;)

"So...when targetware comes out with their Korea game with jets and stuff....will you leave?"
:) It'll be most interesting to see the Targetware folks in action. When any of thier games are finally out and they get a real community then past diatribes and dissertations can be put into actual practice. We'll see how they do for real. ;)

"Jets are for kids."

Jets are boreing. Faster planes get the less fun the sim becomes. Jet sim would be a waste of HTC's programming genius.
Now a WW1 sim...that would be something. We all know he can do it ;)

There ya go, Rosco! And between the two ... the Spanish Civil War. :D
