Title: "Lets roll!"
Post by: Ripsnort on September 11, 2003, 07:33:54 AM
Rememberance[/i][/color]
Memory has in fee
A land where fallen suns
Illume the light and fragile bronze
Of autumn leaves unchangingly.
Memory has in fee
A land of fallen suns.
Memory knows the face
Of one who wanders there,
Tranquil and tall, for ever fair
With dreamful, slow, mysterious grace:
Memory knows her face,
Supremely pale and fair.
Memory sees the sky
In her blue eyes alone;
And all the forest-bronze is flown,
Lost in her hair eternally:
Memory finds the sky
In her blue eyes alone.
Memory takes her hand
Across the lonesome years—
And all the ancient stream of tears
Has ceased within an autumn land:
Memory takes her hand
Across forgotten tears.

Yea...that link (http://home.comcast.net/~sept11/) was fantastic...I think everyone in the office is watching it now with a sniffle here and there.

Discovery Times has been airing an interesting documentary about both the World Trade Centers and Pentagon attacks...worth seeing

Thanks Rip . . . And while not nearly as powerful or emotional I'd like to add this, from Darryl Worley.  I'm sure y'all have heard it.

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
Now they say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Now I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fightin' for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
And all the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten? Have you forgotten? Have you forgotten?

I'm still looking for that video to Toby's Keith's Courtesy of the Red White and Blue.

I think it was done by a Sergeant in the Airforce, had numous still shots of the war and 9/11 and was on a website for a guy named "Carolina Fan".

I would really like to revisit it today if anyone can find the link.

I don't have a poem, but I do have something.

Two years ago today, the lives of all Americans everywhere were shattered. No matter who you were or where you were, it cut you. It cut all of us. bin Laden thought that he would destroy America through fear, but two years after his crime was commited we still stand tall.

Though the bodies of the fallen have been laid to rest, we are still alive and kicking. But just think, how it might have been if no one was there to help. If no one was willing to give it their all to assist their fellow Americans. 9/11 brought out the true America, an America where there is no bigotry, racism, feminism. An America that was bonded together through one mighty act, an America that helped her people.

All gave some, some gave all, but no matter how litte someone gave, they're all heroes. They all gave up their time to help fellow Americans, and they did it willfully.

Today was a somber day for me at UNT. It was for everyone, because we remembered what we were doing that day. We all could remember everything to the last detail. I spent most of the day consoling fellow students, as they did me.

Always remember, that even after 9/11, we have not given up, we have not backed down. Many people have already forgotten what had happened, and that saddens me. All I can remember about today is not the war in Iraq, not the Bush haters, but freedom. We take it for granted sometimes, but today it's stronger than ever. We made it this far, and we will prevail.

Religious or not...pray for those people tonight. I did that night two years ago, and I'll do it again tonight. They will remain heroes forever.

To our friends in other country’s, thanks for your support and understanding, on this day all who love freedom were attacked.

We have endured and will endure more hardship in the future, but freedom will never be extinguished.

With the grace of God, and each other’s shoulder of support we will stand united around the world as one.

For our English "Brothers"

This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is St. Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's Day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd,
This story shall the good man teach his son,
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon St. Crispin's Day.

Thx Rip.
That had me crying my eyes out.
People just remember whether you like George Bush or not.
He had this dropeed in hid lap.
And I for one think he is doing his best !
He has a heavy burden on his shoulders.
Remember he had to meet the families of those killed.
I for one don't know how he did it.
Hell If I where pres The middle east would be uninhabitable for the next ten thousand years.
For all the victims I cry for you.
For all the victim's families I morne with you.
For all the service men and women who have lost your lives in this fight I honor you memory and will always be thankful of you sacrifice.
America Is STRONG and we will overcome But You can bet your sweet a  ss we will NEVER FORGET!!!!!!

Yea, that is a stirring slideshow.  Sorrow and rage... surprising that I can still feel so... offended at what those terrorists did.  It fades away, to the point where you wonder why we are still 'wasting' our time in the Middle East and Afghanistan... then you see something like that and it comes flooding back.

It won't be a war of half-measures though... and I think that is what has the rest of the world leery.  The U.S. will be a hegemony once this is over with.

This is on my favorites list. It's not there because I like it, it's there to remind me of what really happened and to keep the faces of those who were killed and used to kill in my memory. I can't watch it without crying.

I posted this on another thread but it's relevant here so I pasted it on this thread.

It never ceases to amaze me that other nations and people don't understand how deeply the average American can be angry. The case in point is the attack at Pearl was over 60 years ago and we as a nation are stiull angry about it. Just figure that this attack was, in reality a bona fide militry targert and against a military force. A general atttack against a civilian population was not implemented. Granted there was no declaration of war and we are STILL pissed about it as a nation. We do NOT forget it or the losses of men from it.

Now over 50 years later the US is attacked again, this time against a civilian target, with purely civilian aircraft and hostages as a weapon. The losses are about half again the number of dead at Pearl. There was no declaration of war, there was no valid (from a civilized perspective) method of attack or target. This was a sneak attack using the helpless to wage war on the defenseless.

Given the nature of this situation, the past history this nation has about being atttacked you'd damn well BETTER expect us to be angry and we will NOT forget it. We will NOT drop the issue. If you cannot accept this or help then at least get out of the way and let us take care of business. You should also not be found aiding or abetting the enemy or in some fashion you will be held accountable. This goes even if it is nothing more than a grass roots civilian boycot of your goods.

This is as simple as I can make it. I understand the feelings of many in this nation and share them, particulary the disgust and contempt for the terrorist and their sympathizers.

Let us never forget.

Brought tears to my eyes.

Two years on, and I too still want to know "Why?", what has America done to deserve such a cowardly attack? I'm not an American, but the events of that day, and seeing that movie in Rip's link, just make me ANGRY.
Guttless terrorist salamanders.

To those who went above and beyond when they were needed the most, the world thanks you.

To our brothers in arms in the middle east now due to this, thankyou, stand tall, stand proud, come home safe.

RC51  : Hell If I where pres The middle east would be uninhabitable for the next ten thousand years.   wholeheartedly agree, and must admit to being awed at the level of restraint shown by a group of people who have the means to do exactly that.

We may never know why...we may never understand the reasons. We may feel anger towards those who did this...we may feel anguish for those killed. We may feel lots of things...all fo which relating to this day three years ago.

September 11th is a day that we as a nation have and will come together as one people...to remember those that perised that day and to mourn the loss of many fellow Americans. We may not have known the people who were killed, the people who worked in the Trade Center or the Pentegon, or who were aboard the four flights that disappeared off radar that early morning, but we mourn them. We cry for them. We pray for them.

There is nothing else we can do but remember...to show the people who were killed at we will never forget them...to show the firefighters and policemen who were killed that day trying to save lives...to everyone in New York City and Washington...that we have not forgotten. I read reports and watch videos on 9/11 and some of them make me weep. It's hard to admit that a college student cries anymore. But I do...as I'm sure many of you do as well.

Regardless on your political stance or your stance on the war, I am calling upon every member of this board, should you be so willing, to take a moment tomorrow morning to remember those people four years ago. A moment of silence is in order. It is a day to put off political flaming and mud-slinging to stand beside one another and tell the world "We are Americans...and we are still here."

We have not backed down and we never will. We will never forget September 11th...never. It is a time to remember and think back...and pray for those who died that day and who are overseas now.

My generation doesn't understand. I do...and I will pray. Tomorrow morning...we all should pray. It's all we can do for them.
