China 'sends 150,000 troops to N. Korean border'
HONG KONG - China has deployed up to 150,000 troops on its border with North Korea to deter Pyongyang's nuclear build-up and contain mounting violence from rogue North Korean soldiers, a report here said yesterday.

Five divisions of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops had been deployed in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, bordering North Korea, since last month, an unidentified security source in China was quoted as saying by Hong Kong's Sunday Morning Post.

Large troop movements and new military barracks had also surfaced in the border towns of Hanchun, Tumen, Kaishan, Sanhe and Baijing, while air force jets had frequently been seen flying over the capital Yanji, 40km from the border, the report added.

But Mr Kong Quan, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman, last Tuesday refused to confirm or deny the reported deployment of PLA troops.

Hong Kong's Chinese-language Sing Tao Daily had earlier reported that three PLA units - each with 50,000 troops, including armoured divisions - had been deployed along the 1,400km border.

The paper quoted a Chinese Foreign Ministry source as saying the move was aimed at deterring North Korea from continuing its nuclear build-up and pressurising Pyongyang into holding talks with the United States.

The Sunday Morning Post said residents of Yanbian prefecture also believed the PLA troops were there to halt the violent crimes such as murder allegedly carried out by North Korean soldiers. -- AFP

Considering our trade gap with China is at its highest ever, I think this might be China's way of saying "Don't worry about the trade gap...we'll send some troops over to NK if you don't mention trade gap"

Okay, so that might be a black helicopter....

What frightens me is that we had a full-scale civil-defence, army and navy trainings in the Far East in late August. The main task was to "prepare for emergency situation with several hundreed thousands of foreign refugees in the Vladivostok/Ussuriysk area"...

I don't believe that such things are just coincidence.

Rest assured they will.  But after they're onboard inbound civilian airliners so they can do it with a clear conscious.

We'll never get a chance. Americans will shoot them in the international airspace before they'll cross our border.

What a silly joke

Maybe I am paranoid, but it smells like a big war, and it's very sad :(

I still didn't find anything about this in Russian news sources. I wonder if Western media already comments on it?

SK doesn't think they can deal with NK, they just want to preserve the status quo as long as possible, hoping NK will improve.  The two things the SK government fears most are war with the north, and re-unification with the north.  Both would set SK back 50 years.

Think this isn't giving CNN fits?

CNN news director - "Ok guys, who do we go with?"

reporter A - "NK!"

reporter B - "No, China's communism is older!"

reporter A - "No, NK are our brothers, they are getting kicked by a communist bully that has trade with the evil free-enterprising Amercians!"

reporter B - "Thats just so they can pay for more schools, hospitals, universities and other high level learning institutes for THE PEOPLE!"

news director - "Ok, we will go with both."

both reporters - "Yes comrade!"

You know the old timers that fear communism always warned that China's goal is to simply dominate the world?  Well, there is some truth to that, though it will be done economically.  Like you said, they don't want any one making waves while they sail this ship from point A to point B.

What makes you think their not doing anything for the infastructure of their country or people?

Good friend of mine has been working in China for the past 5 years installing celluar networks. He's always saying how much it has changed in the past 2 years let alone 5. Especially in the big ciities.

Hoping to visit him next year and see for myself. China's current growth rate is quite something. Intel's just invested about 800 million in a new factory there.

Don't get all "Ya China!" yet.

This latest action is China's way of saying "FU!" to the US.

The US asked China to let a whole crapload more NK starving refugee's across the board.  China responded by putting 150,000 troops on the boarder.

Now you tell me what you think that means?

Means I thought US would be use to China saying "FU" by now. Why is that a suprise? Their border, if they want to put 150,000 troops there for what ever reason why should it concern US?

In 1979 when PRC invaded Vietnam, they deployed 600,000 troops, and got their rear end kicked severely...

I wonder against whom they are going to use this 150,000. I mean - demonstrate, I don't want to think they will use them in combat...

I think it means that China doesnt want a flood of refugees crossing the border or Mr. P. to continue his quest for nuclear arms.

Hardly 'FU' to the US.  Quite the opposite, IMO.

What for? Just to know that there are some loonies overseas who can start a nuclear war for nothing?

All the situation around North Korea is extremely complicated. Three powers are playing games around it.

Possible reasons and motivations:

US: "Axis of evil" is nothing more then a propaganda slogan, and a pretty stupid one. The real reason for the game may be the desire to destabilize the whole region, that will immediately reflect on international markets in favour of the US. Remember when Clingon administration started the war supporting terrorists to destabilize EU and drop the Euro exchange rate in 1999?

China: probably will benefit from knocking South Korea from hi-tech markets, plus has a good reason to "trade" Taiwan from Americans for not supporting DPRK in the upcoming war.

Russia: tries to get all possible benefits from the side that will offer better conditions. Absolutely not interested in millions of possible refugees in Far East. The only thing that DPRK can offer us is the planned railway from South Korea that goes around China and will help us earn some money on South Korean goods delivery to Europe.

Any other ideas?

Hrun, refugees started to leave Kosovo after the "peacekeeping bombings" started. NATO aerial bandits tried to stop it by bombing refugee convoys, if you remember.

BTW, do you have an idea of what is going on in Kosovo now?

And again, KLA was declared a "terrorist organisation" by US Senate in Autumn, 1998. Serbian police operation against armed terrorists and drug-dealers was stopped by NATO. Now tell me who is at war with terrorism?...

The whole agressive war against Yugoslavia shows how easy it is to completely brainwash Western public. "War is peace, lie is truth".

Oh my god. Is that funny or what.

The incident in question was a target identification mistake on the part of an RAF Tornado crew. Believe me, if the RAF or USAF had wanted to really bomb refugee convoys there would have been no question as to the outcome.
