Title: Somebody Oughta Know this...
Post by: midnight Target on September 15, 2003, 04:56:44 PM
I know I could look it up in a Chiltons, but I'm pretty sure that this BBS has the resources to answer ANYTHING!

I have a dashboard light in my Kia Sportage (stop laughing!!) that looks like its the airbag light. It flashes 8 short and 1 long. Is this a code? What could it mean? The car just passed a CA smog test.

Does this happen all of the time or only when your mother-in-law is near the car?

All emission relevant errors are signaled by dangerous looking orange lamp with the engine symbol. When it's off you shouldn't have problems passing a smoke test.

No idea about the airbag light. Maybe the explosives need to be replaced due to age?

Electrical tape is the solution, Mt, just cut a little strip and put it over the light.

What I never understood is why anyone would want a car that was named Killed In Action.

sounds like a code.  probably just a servie interval notice,  you can call the service department and they'd likely tell you what the code means

It's nothing, just ignore it.  Or if you want to find out if there is something wrong with the airbag just hit a tree at above 35mph and report the results back here.

dont laugh but i work at a kia dealer ,can find out and get back
 to you.
airbag light should flash 7 times and go out when you start engine, sounds like it might just need reset.

My dad bought a new (then) 1979 Ford F150 with the 400 in it.  It ran strong, but was always hot (which is a problem in AZ when it's not that hot outside)  He took it in to the dealership twice having it worked on before the service manager pulled him aside and said, "Jim, I'll tell you this because you're a friend.  You know Mr. X (forgot the name) who bought a truck just like yours?  He kept bringing it in complaining of it running hot.  After about 4 trips we just took the dash off, bent his heat gauge needle and he's been happy since then."

My dad decided to just take the truck home without the dealer "modification"  :D

Dune, I hope you have another dealership to choose from.

it sounds like my kids fix for that rattle when the car is stopped at a light.  "bigger speakers, amp,  and a sub-woofer, haven't heard it since"

Try rebooting the computer disconnecting the battery for a minute.

In that case it's probably a sensor that needs to be replaced. Check your warrenty, often airbagsand their systems have a longer warrenty on them than the bumper to bumper one that came with the car.

Had a simular problem with my Ford Ranger. The truck's warrenty had expired at 36k. The Airbag sensor's warrenty went to 52k. Free fix.:)
