A Man who lied about having a son who died in the World Trade Centre attack to get $US160,000 ($242,240) in charity funds was sentenced today to more than a decade in prison.
Prosecutors said the father of 12 made up a 13th child so he could steal relief money from the American Red Cross and Safe Horizons.
Cyril Kendall, 54, was given a sentence of 11 to 33 years in prison.
He was convicted on August 7 of grand larceny and offering a false instrument for claiming his imaginary 29-year-old son, Wilfred Kendall, had been in the trade centre on September 11 and was killed when the towers collapsed.
Kendall said he used $US95,000 for family grief counselling and the remainder on related expenditures, including a memorial service

The bastage..
-
If the guy really has 12 kids they should just give him the money anyway.
-
No, they should give him the jail time, plus a vasectomy.

I'd say that was way too harsh sentence, even if it's ethically rotten thing to do.
Alot of far worse criminals gets less!
and man.. 11 years is a long time.. especially if it's 11 to 33 years for just 242,000 dollars, thats a candy compared to the sentence.
-
he'll steal more the that amount while hes living of your tax money its something like 50 000 dollars a month to keep someone in prison...boy it sure was cheaper when you could just give him 20 whips and be done with it...

Right on! American's have become such *****s, willing to pay more for what damage has been caused.
He gives compensation back, a lofty fine, and a public caning ratton justice by flexible flesh biting bamboo.
Humiliated, he limps away at no cost to the tax payer to pay us back.
Perfect.

$600,000 a year for one prisoner...doubt it.
I think you meant $50,000 a year.
