I don't see a problem with this. (shrugs)
Student Proposes Caucasian Club
Proposed Club Meets Some Resistance
OAKLEY, Calif. -- A California high school freshman has run up against opposition in her quest to start a Caucasian Club for white students.
An Oakley, Calif., NAACP leader says Lisa McClelland's proposed club smacks of racial division, a charge the 15-year-old denies. McClelland says she and some of her friends simply feel a bit slighted since other Freedom High School clubs cater to specific cultures and races, such as the Black Student Union and the Asian Club.
"It's not racist because we're not excluding anyone, and we're just trying to solve the issues of racial disparity," McClelland said. Her ethnic background is American Indian, Latino, Dutch, German, Italian and Irish.
So far, McClelland has gathered 245 signatures from an array of students, adults and others on and off campus in support of the formation of her Caucasian Club. She's looking to gather additional signatures before submitting the petition to Freedom High principal Eric Volta this week.
The high school has dealt with thorny racial issues in the recent past. In 2001, a black teacher found a noose made out of a shoelace hanging on the doorknob of his classroom. Tensions mounted again last year when a roped noose was found dangling from a redwood tree on campus.
Darnell Turner, vice president of the East County chapter of the NAACP, spoke out against the 2002 incident and says McClelland's Caucasian Club sounds like a bad idea at a time when the campus is trying to heal fresh emotional wounds.
"It will not allow us to heal that divide that we've tried to overcome in the past couple of years," Turner said. "If her motivation is to bring harmony, as she alleges, this is not the way to go."
Some of McClelland's classmates, however, support her effort.
"It'd be tight because they can learn more about their history," said 14-year-old Tyleisha Crooks, a fellow freshman at Freedom who is black.
Elliott Perez, 14, a sophomore at Freedom who is Latino and white, also said the school could benefit from McClelland's club.
"I think it's fair for white people to have their own club because every other race has their own club," he said.
Both Crooks and Perez signed the petition in support of the formation of the Caucasian Club.
Oakley is located about 50 miles east of San Francisco

I don't see any problem with forming a "caucasian club", especially if there is already a precedent set by having an "asian club" and a "Black Student Union".
Whatever floats yer boat.
-
Rip, you seem to have a fixation with racism. IN.
-
I bet if she called it the "American Indian/Latino/Dutch/German/Italian/Irish" club no one would care.
-
LOL I love it :D The irony is marvelous.
-
She should've called it "The British Club" and nobody would've said a word. With a name like "McClelland", I'm sure she'd qualify for membership.
-
You know what would really be refreshing is to see the ACLU get involved on behalf of the Caucasian Club, a position that goes against the NAACP's. I'll be watching this one.
-
Agree with banana...As long as it's agenda is not preaching hate who cares what you call your club.
-
Anyone have a contact address for this club? I want to send a contribution. California's public education system is full of racist double standards and I'd love to see a victory for equality on this issue.
-
I think one thing that's slipped by in all this discussion is this:
She's challenging the Institution too soon.
If this was a college, she'd have a better chance of getting her club passed, so long as it didn't preach hate crimes. In HS, its all county-owned, county-run, we're-liable-for-these-dang-kids'-actions-because-they're-minors, type of flak that'll stifle her efforts. Once she gets past 18 years old and into a university, she can claim academic freedom and adult responsibilities. But at the HS level, it's gonna fail, simply because it'll reflect on the county and its politicians.
-
Watch, I bet the County/School Board will whimp out and ban all clubs.

I think that's really the only choice they have if they decide not to allow her to have the club.

I agree 100% as long as its not teaching hate there should be a
Caucasian club. Just as there should be a Caucasian music awards and a Caucasian film awards and a Caucasian history week etc etc. Oh and while we are at it how bout a I am not gay pride parade. Equal rights.
Oh and in

Rip is a filthy racist Nazi, but I think the club is OK.

You're slipping Bro...you forgot "Skinhead"

I can't blame you for what nature did. ;)

About time someone started one of these clubs. Lots of people talk about "white caucuses" but nobody ever bothers to make it a reality.
Kudos to these kids.
-
Anyone here want to start a grassroots organization for men to join Women only health clubs?

No, he's like me, his profile got deleted a couple of years ago during one of the software upgrades. We both had several thousand posts beyond what our most recent profiles said.
(I retired FunkedUp at 10,000 posts.)

No ***** there is racism everywhere you go because there are f*king idiots everywhere you go. Duh!

IMHO Rip is not even a little bit hungup on race.
IMHO Rip like a very large number of people I know, including myself, is just tired of the Race Card GAME! Along with what could be construed as reverse RACISM (also the anti-white-male or just anti-male bashing) by so many that seems to be so highly approved by our media.
I did not enslave anyone and I don't think I know anyone that did.
Further I do not believe I could stand by and watch anyone do so.
As to the hyphenated ********-American thing...
I'm real tired of that and have come to consider it something designed to DIVIDE the people of this nation. Something to place an accent on the differences rather then to join in the commonality.
I apologize to Rip if I'm incorrect.
