a low of 37° F forcasted for here tonight.
a soliloquy about fall was what i was going to type... but i dont have tha patience.
just some quick thoughts:
i love fall, my favorite season. dark and cool (temp wise), it is mysterious and somber. Solemn and somber seem to be the best words IMHO to describe fall. maybe im a dark person, maybe i am depressed at life and relish in the sadness, but i still love fall.
nothing makes me feel better than being alone and having noone to call or do something with, and sitting having a beer and a smoke in the crisp fall air in a quilted flannel shirt and some baggy jeans.
is it wrong to listen to slow blues music, watch the sun set, get a chill in the air, have a beer, be all alone no other person in sight or sound, and feel content but yet mournful of loves past and lost?
sometimes the simple pleasures like the smell of burning leaves are best enjoyed privately in my opinion.
what do you think of fall?

Fall to me,
the tourists have gone, leaving the country side and beaches as they should be, open and peaceful.
The cooler air make the sea seem warmer as i sit outback on my board waiting for the next set of waves to arrive.
The september swells roll in from the atlantic and its just me and some friends to enjoy it without the hassle and stress of fighting for waves like in the summer.
Bliss...

Solemn and somber are perfect descriptions of wisconsin falls.
But I cant stand the smell of burning leaves! I like smoke from a fireplace  Burning ash/oak is beautiful. Ever been to Door county around autumn? breathtaking.
and any time is a good time for flannel shirts and beer

You've summed it up perfect JB73. Nothing quite like going on a 10pm run through a deserted park in late october. Or walking through a deserted part of downtown as I head from my college campus to the parking lot.
I like it when I can almost 'feel' halloween in the air.
However, I love the feeling of getting up at 5:00am on a late spring morning, going out running, and watching the sun rise. Late spring is probably my favorite season.

I love fall too. Everything seems to slow down and become more peaceful.
Ill be happy when there is a nice snow cover on the ground and I can bust out the camping gear.
I'm thinking I'd better go bust out the RCMP storm parka and the sorels and skrat hat. :)

I like the fall too. Overcast days before or right after a rain are my favorite.

Best time of the year.

My favorite time of year if for no other reason than it's farthest from the next damn Texas Summer. One o' these days I'm gonna move.

Yep, when it's Fall, I can't go outside and still be in a funk about anything. It's just too nice 'a weather to be in a bad mood.
Fall brings back memories of high school days. For me, those were good times, and I always think about that when it's Fall. About friends and family, and the good days they were. Makes me feel young again.

Coming from New England, fall is the season.
The smell of wood burning, fresh apple pie and apple sauce in the air.
Splitting wood in the morning then watching football in the afternoon. Yup, fall is the season.

Fall reminds me, that soon its going to be -20c, so it kinda sucks.

Good one 73, great memories just from your post.
Growing up in Wisconsin the smell of popcorn at a high school football game with a chill in the air, finally beating the oppressive humidity and wearing a jacket. Not sweating in a tree stand with a bow like opening season, just a cool breaze and fall colors, taking it all in. Late fall you can hear everything in the woods, even more so than all the wonderful smells. Hooves in cracking leaves in a fall woodland draw perched on a deer stand must be experienced. I always liked the smell of burning leaves too. My brother in Iowa said it best, he wished October was 70 days long. Its the end of a oppressive hot muggy summer, and just perfect weather.
Nevada fall is pretty much the way things are supposed to be as far as weather though. Cool almost cold nights with the windows open, with comfy covers, and 80 degree humidless days. Too bad it lacks what the Midwest brings in October and November in relief and fall colors. But it does seem to last forever. And yeah, it's sweet.
This is the time of year I envy the Midwest, so I take several trips there. Too bad it is the prelude to 4 months of uglyness! Well to be fair, the first few snow falls are awesome, but then it turns out to be a pain in the arse. Then it melts and it's miserable for 2 more months. Sure is nice to visit though.

Autumn/fall came early to Britain this year. Leaves were turning brown and falling in late August. That's because of the hot, dry summer. I think I've seen rain about twice since July.
Creamo! One crumb of comfort for your bro. October is the longest month of the year.
Two months from now, it will be dark by about 4:30pm. :( Earlier than that in December.

Fall is good, don't like spring. Prefer summer and winter

Having spent my entire life (35 years) in Florida, Fall had no meaning for me. I knew nothing of the smells, the crisp air, and the beautiful leaves changing colors. I had never seen it before until last year while I was visiting Kentucky. I loved it so much that my wife and I moved here two months ago.
I sit here as we speak in my basement, with the garage door open smelling the smells I had only heard about. I am going to get on my motorcycle in a little bit and go for a ride through the twisty little country roads that are abundant in this beautiful state. The rolling hills and lush green lawns of the horse farms in the distance are breathtaking. It's like something you'd see in a postcard.
I always felt as if I was born in the wrong State and had thought about moving for the past 15 years. Finally, my wife and I decided to just do it. Funny how you can move somewhere and feel like you're at home so quickly.
Feels like.... Paradise Wooooooo hoooooooooo!

The tourists are, for the most part, gone from the roads. The weather is clear and warm today. My little patch has been given back to the natives for us to enjoy for a few short weeks.
My girlfriend is washing the kitchen floor with some ammonia smelling mixture..
I'm goin for a motorcycle ride too.. :)
