Title: chute shooting
Post by: TT on December 01, 1999, 01:43:00 PM
I shot a chute last night (mitsu,s) and was awarded the kill. I was in a 190 and this was on a second pass. I had nailed him good on the first pass, so im hopeing that is why I got the kill.

I shot just as he bailed. I normally dont pay any attention to chutes. I assumed that shooting them was a waste of ammo. I seldom bail myself,I lost interest in the score when I found out you have to buff. But most players are interested in it and IMHO the ability to kill a jumper should be turned off.

I dunno.  Having the ability to bail is certainly a near necessity at the least.

Therefor, if you bail you become an independant object within the sim.  If there is an object in the sim it should stay active rather than become static.

Furthermore, being vulnerable in a chute requires some strategy and I feel this adds (albeit very little overall) to the sense of
existence while online and pluggeg in.

I dont like getting shot in a chute or on the ground and this adds to the experience IMO.

I also like to have the option of destroying
people while outside their airplane as well as inside.  There are times when I feel justified in doing so.  Either as a form of retribution or out of my own perverted sence of expressing respect.

Actually it would be nice for the:

Attacker: a "Kill" for the obvious (Downed plane).
Defender: receive a "Bailed" if he bailed (and made the landing)
Defender: a "Killed" if killed in cockpit.
Defender: "Killed" if shot in a chute.
Attacker: no dbl "Kill" for chute.

If im not mistaken, although there were kills in chutes in WWII. There came a time when both sides came to terms with an Unwritten Rule of Air Combat, where a  pilot wouldnt straf a bailing pilot.

Leading to? In WWII if one did bail 3 times in combat did he say "I have 20 kills and 3 deaths" or "I have 20 kills and had to bail 3 times"?

May not make any difference but just thought i'd put my .02 in. It is just a simulator :-)

Previously I didn`t like the idea of "chute killing". Now there are certain circumstances when I feel wholly justified in doing it.
#1. ANY Sissyfire pile-it deserves it,just because he flys with "training wheels".

#2. Scorepotatos, just so I can knock-em down a few spots on the scoreing ladder.

#3. Curly,cause he does it too.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I LIKE the idea of being able to kill someone in a chute from time to time only because it is a way to show your respect or express your feelings as to way a pilot has chosen to fight. If you are attacked up in a diliberate act of Dweebery...or the pilot uses whatever methods you deem dispicable... hehe! It feels good to... (!) punctuate your kill  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) If you let him fly away or choose not to shoot him... (probably 95% of the kills you make)you show respect. A pilot in the chute can judge for himself, by how he chose to fight, how I feel about him!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) It kinda like like the reverse of leaving a "tip" on the table! You "tip" if you get good service and don't if its lousy!

Give the guy in the chute a 45 cal. handgun and the ability to point and shoot...who know's maybe he will shoot the pilot.....now that's sweet revenge!

The .45 is a good idea! I occasionally have trouble sleeping at night because I wonder how I can go into battle tomorrow knowing I
killed an unarmed DWEEB! I think of his wife at home and wonder how the little DWEEBS and DWEEBETES will grow up never seeing him again. But with this new idea I can more easily rationalize the shooting of an armed combatent! hehe  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)Who knows... he might get lucky. I can think of other possibilities with this. Maybe a downed pilot could survive on fresh mutton! hmm another thing to model!

Yikie Shnikies!

A thought flashed through my mind as I posted! I remember several times that I was forced into a "Head On" and we both were killed! I watched his chute as we both drifted to the ground. Hmm .45's here could have be fun! And as you both land you could run toward each other the battle it out "Texas" style! Who knows.. maybe HiTech could even model "rockem, sockem" type guys after the ammo was gone. hehe Gosh! well that may be taking it a bit to far. But you may be on to something fun here!

Now that might be fun. bail out after him then hunt him down on the ground with a 45.

Chute killing isn't a good thing.
OK, I can understand it if someone who shot my plane down comes and kill me.BUT when someone purely outsider comes after a good fight with someone else and kills me on chute, that pisses me of and really good.

Only once I've been killed on chute, by a outsider P-51 driver, here's for you :-P

My 2 cents worth are to leave it as it is, I dont shoot at a chute as a rule, but I have done it a couple of time when I thought it was justified. After a good fight where the other guy ends up hitting the silk I'll sometimes buzz (no shoot) him a couple of times and msg nice fight or the likes over radio 1.

When I jump from my dead plane I dont open my chute till I'm near the ground. For one, hitting the "o" key at 20k is a waste of time if nothing else, and someone is going to be tempted to zap you for killing there mate. Free fall till you are very low before opening the chute and this is a non issue. It gets you back in the tower quicker too.

I have the honour of getting a pilot kill from a chute with the .45 in WarBirds.

That was way back when it was possible.

Fun!

I mainly like the option of shooting chutes, to eliminate the "would-be-spy" that lingers around an area on the ground a bit too long.
It is also nice when you flying a jap plane!

Awesome idea Thunder, the dueling parachutes would be a real hoot.

Unless im in a big furball I allways kill the pilot just cause he tryed to fight me.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Although if I have to bail gimme a Luger/Colt and a few extra clips and its party time.

Man I sure would like that BAR they got on there though.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

There were a lot of pilots that would shoot a guy in his chute during WWII. It depended on the pilot. At one point the British actually ordered it, but many pilots refused, either directly, or by missing, (for some odd reason :-) ).
Last night I shot a guy in his chute to keep him from seeing 2 C47s that were inbound his base. I was called a bastard, (with a smile attached).  Later after we had taken the base I sent him a personal and told him why.  I think he took it well. Personally, If I'm dumb enough to bail at high altitude, then I'd welcome some guy to shoot me so I can get down to the ground and replane sooner.
AND I LOVE TO SHOOT THE SCORE QUEENS WHEN I GET THE CHANCE.  AIN'T NOTHING BETTER THEN WRECKING SOME BEAN COUNTERS EGO TRIP :-)
When I fly Jap, I shoot chutes when opportunity presents itself.  That's what the japs did in WWII and I like to be historically correct when it's feasible.
I vote to keep the ability to shoot people in chutes. It's a great stress reliever/Ego buster. :-)
Let the fools learn how to wait until they SEE THE SHEEP before opening their chutes!  :-)
