are no longer a country band:

They are pretty stupid to begin with.
considering their target audience, its not a good idea to say anything bad about a republican politician, less so the president himself.
-
"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."
And I consider you part of the "Your sound sucks" community.
-
the most suicidal statement ever.
So good bye career. Someone needs to shut their yappers before its too late. They barely are acceptable as a country band. So lets pissed off the only people who buy our records and say we are rock.
Because rock people get chubs for the dixie chicks. ummmm yea, sure.
-
so what they are saying is that they can play more then 3 chords now and write lyrics that are more then just "yeahha what a cheerful country girl i am" ?
If so, congratulations on your advancement.
In terms of musical skill even rap has country beat hands down.
-
That's some sad news.
Ohhhhh, my achey breaky heart, my achy breaky heart......
;)
(lol. a two-fer; a knock on Country and the Dipsy chicks all in one!)

They're gonna have to be way more slutty if they want to be "Rock and Roll chicks".

OK. I think everybody knows how I feel about the dixie wh..er.. chicks :D BUT! :D They do have tallent. Blue grass music can be very dificult to play.
That being said, they ain't rock. And I'm ebarassed they are from Texas ;)
-
It really dosnt matter what genre they classify themselves as. They have talent and they have a large fanbase; they can call themselves rap and still make millions and sell out their tour.
-
Shoot dont you know!
There the three stooges:D

Im not gonna completley flame you, and I will agree that a lot of mainstream rap you hear and see on on the radio and MTV/BET is pretty crappy and I would not label them musicians.
OTOH.
A lot of the Rap artists I listen too, are very much musicians. A lot of them make there own beats using guitars, drums, which would technically make them musicians.
Would you say the former Rage against the Machine were not musicians? What about the Beastie Boys?

Ah, yes, too many "good" messages in Country to like that!~

...its just a matter of time before they become the new voice for "Weight Watchers" :rofl

1st and foremost RATM never was a Rap group, granted they infused rap into their music but they were never Rap artists, they were rock plain and simple. Beastie Boys should not be considered as rap artist either, they started out as a punk rock band and slowly infused rap as well as techno, funk, ska, reggae. While both bands may have some rap elements neither are "rap"
-
Rap/Hip Hop artists can be defined by any of the following
TuPac
Biggie
DMX
Tribe called quest
NAS
Ice Cube
IceT
Ghetto Boys
NWA
Dr Dre
Eminem
50Cent
I think you get the picture
-
Don't forget Vanilla Ice.
-
And Markie Mark and the Funky Bunch.

OMG! I'm not even a country fan but THIS is one of the most uninformed statements I've ever heard.
:rofl I'll bet the only instrument you've ever even held was that spit filled Recorder back in 3rd grade.

Gonna have to call BS on this one. I'm not a huge country music fan. The stuff that's being released today is nothing but fluff. However, go take a listen to Jerry Reed, Danny Gatton, Brent Mason, Ricky Skaggs or Vince Gill break it down on guitar and tell me it doesn't take skill.

They sucked before the ranted about Bush and they still suck. Country, rock, rap, whatever...they suck.
-
Country music died with Hank Williams Sr.
-
First off, Excuse fd-ski lack of understanding what helped America grow into the great nation it is....Country Music. fd-ski's a "City Boy"
Secondly, Alan Jackson is the God!

On a scale of artistic expression, I rate rap somewhere between belching and farting.
-
So, you're saying it's somewhere near the top then? :D
-
Does not get any better than that ;)

I guess that would depend on your point of ewe.

Well, 11 years of music school, 3rd generation musician in the family, married to a woman with Masters from Juilliard.
But then again, you prabably don't know what it is.
In terms of creativity and originality musically and lyrics Country music by enlarge is quite dreadful. There were some good Country musicians, no doubt, but anyone here could qualify as one as well, all you need to know is C chord, F chord and G-9 chord, that and sappy lyrics about how you can't get any p...y, you're all set. Instant star !!!
Rap is more creative in pure techique sense, however, as mietla pointed out, it isn't above farting.
If you're looking for "quality" music it more or less stops at classical, but most of you here couldn't name a clastical composer other then Mozart ( although you prabably know him as Amadeus... you know .. movie and all ? )
Heavy metal brought some skillful playing on drums and gitar wise. Other then that, not much to choose from.
So don't get all defensive just because something you enjoy isn't the "best of the best". I mean afterall, you people watch "football" and drink that thing you call "beer" :D
:rofl
Oh yeah, Rip ? What made this country great ? Get off of it. You would say homosexuality made this country great if for one minute you would think I have something against it.
:D

Fd-ski is right about country music. Musicaly it's VERY SIMPLISTIC. Wit is what keeps country music going. Rock -n- Roll ain't much different. Same chord progressions as country, just a different beat.
Want real musician music, go classical or jazz.
IMHO ofcourse :)
-
go with what you like, thats what music is for, what moves you.
Just because its more difficult doesnt make it better.
Hell that wwiiol fm used to be uber difficult.
-
A song that only has 3 chords doesn't automatically make it a "simple" tune. For example, go take a look at Jerry Reed's "The Claw." It's technical, engaging and amazing to listen to.
And I think I have some kind of idea on what I'm talking about since I make my living as a guitar player in Nashville.

While your first statement has some validity, I believe that Zach De LaRocha, brought a lyrical style to his music that resembled rap more than rock. The Guitar of Tom Morello, could be called a Stringed Turntable the way he jammed on it.
But, the Beastie Boys.
Every Album the beastie boys have released has been an experiment. But I would say the Beastie's have and always be a rap venue.
The Beastie Boys revolutionized Rap music and its genre in the 80's. And RATM did it in the 90's.

If you are so knowledgeable about music, you would know there are many talented musicians in country music. Alot more instruments are used in country music than you think. Steel guitars, fiddles, I could go on. C chord, F-Chord?, sounds like a rock band to me.
-
I have never heard a rap thing clear through... I have had to threaten people with violence in order to do so. There has never been anything worse that has been passed off as music.
Black kids pretending to be ghetto and white kids pretending to be hip. Gawd are they all gonna be embarrassed in about 20 years.

its a little short sighted to dismiss all music in a genre as moribund because you don't like it (i guess many (old) people dismissed rock in the 50/60s)
Having said that, doesn't classical music suck bellybutton :) No wonder no one makes it anymore ;)
-
Ski,
Did you or your wife ever attend Interlochen?
I was there in '78.
**And to beat the rest of you guys to it......This one time, at band camp.....

I like some of RATM and all, but I think you overstate their influence.

First, who gives a Rat's Arse what the Dixie Chicks think or say? Second, I hate to say this but Rock and Roll is just hanging around on life support, and the outlook is grim. The current "Rock" groups are just touring playing all their old songs. There is no new Rock out there. The current songs by Evanescence and Matchbox 20 hardly qualify as rock, ditto for Justin Timberlake, Jewel, Madonna, Brittany Spears, ect.
What is played on the majority of radio now is Hip-Hop and Rap.
Country music is no longer country either. It's now what we heard as Top 40 or Adult Contemporary back in the 70's (i.e. Shania Twain), with a very few exceptions such as George Strait. But, given the choice, I will listen to a Country station before a "Hot Hits" station every time. At least I can understand most of the lyrics.
Now comes the scary part...what will we be listening to in 10-15 years when the current generation of teens become parents and ask "What is that crap they are playing on the radio?"
I don't care what people say, Rock n Roll has gone away.:(

Yeah... but the Donna's aren't really new. There just rapidly becoming the flavor of the week.
Still... I think they're cool as hell. :)

True but lately, "any" band playing decent rock music qualifies as "new".
