I have been very patient so far but for some reason I just needed to order a new vid card... I get it tomorrow... ;)
Is it THAT day tomorrow??? :D :D :p :p
(off topic: old card GF3 ti200 64mb, new card SAPPHIRE R9600 PRO 128MB FIREBLADE)

Good job!
-
I mean... Is it THE DAY tomorrow...
Waiting something else more than a new vid card. And that is the reason why new card is coming...
But I dont want to say that word...
:p ;)
-
hehehehehe :rofl

Congrats on new card, im thinking about that card myself. When you get it installed pls tell me what fps you get at your res setting. Also list the rest of your components that you test it with.
-
Nilsen, I'll chime in here and say that I just got a new system put together with an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and I'm getting 60-80 fps at 1600x1200 res. Very nice. Just gives you something to compare against.
System specs just for good measure:
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard
Athalon 2600+ processor
512 MB Crucial RAM (2x256)
120 GB hard drive with 8 Mb cache
Radeon 9500 Pro
just using the onboard sound of the mb, and it sounds great
WinXP Pro
-
Thx mjolnir:)
Im gonna run my ati9600pro on at 1280x1024 cause thats the default on my LCD. Guess my FPS will be very ok at that res.
-
Ok.. a new card came to my desk at work. I'll tell how its doing in evening.
Other specs:
amd xp1800, asus A7V333, 1gb ram (pc2100), XP Pro.

I too would like to know how it works.
I bought a FDX8500 LE Radeon 64MB last year and it has been superb (faster than the 9000 or 9200 with a couple of less DX9 hardware stuff which has been rarely used).
Its lasted way longer than my usual Graphics card lifespan of 6 to 8 months.
Im now looking to buy a card that superceeds it significantly for around £150 to £200 and ive noticed the 9600 is below this price and apparently a very fast card. Id consider it if it makes a big enough leap in speed.
I have a AOpen AK77-8XN(software bios with many overclocking features) mobo with 512mb of 400hz PC2700 RAM, a 40 Gig ATA 133 7200rpm Harddrive connected to a Athlon 2.2Gig CPU running at 400 FSB and sounblaster Live! soundcard and a TFT sony monitor.
my fps in AH range from around 35 to 59 (limited by TFT 60hz refresh) with 2X Anti-aliasing on (and 2X smoothvision anisotropic filtering??or something :)).
if i can max out my computer at 60 FPS without it ever dropping that would rock :) maybe the 9600 128MB could do this for me?.
-
Im not sure if i should get the 9600pro now or wait until someone has tested it with AH2 on a comp with similar specs as mine.... Hopefully we wont have to wait alot before someone can do that test ;)
When was AH2 due out again HT?:D
-
Ok, first tests are done.
It is hard to say how new card has improved AH FPS. With old card fps was 30-70. With new card it stays 60fps. Thats because I have sony 18" TFT installed at the moment...
But, I have to do some more tests with it.
3Dmark 2001 SE test was interesting. With old card my best result was 6609 points and with new card result was 9240. Default settings.
Picture quality is a little better now, both 2d and 3d.
-
I got a Radeon 9000 64MB DDR yesterday.
Hope it will be enough for AH2.

And don't forget the ketchup!!
Ketchup paste makes a great chip coolant in addition to being the world's best condiment for the purpose of improving ones bodily health and self esteem.
ketchup.....

AVRO1.. Your chip is more or less what mipoikel traded up from. If the rest of your puter is ok then you should have no problem getting good pfs on AH.
AH2 is another matter tho, don't think anyone really knows that yet, so you just have to wait and see . Hope it will work for you, but it MAY be abit slow if you want to use high res settings.

I have put together an
2500 barton xp
asus a7v8x-x
ati 9500 pro
1024 ddr 333 memory
win xp pro.
getting a stable 75 fps on all maps, funny thing is though, with same rez in win 98 i was getting just over 100.
seems to me, xp somehow limits it t 75 max, cause it stays there constantly
-
75 should be more than enough, but there may be some XP driver issues. 98 is less demanding than XP, but a 25fp drop is alot i think.
-
My puter
P4 1.6 GHz
512 MB of ram
Windows XP
Radeon 9000 64MB
I get about 50 fps right now at 1024-768 res. when I fly close to the ground.

Thaks mip, i bookmarked the link just incase i get the same problems :)

MY System:
Ati Radeon 7500 128MB
512mb RAM
Diamond sound card
HD 80gb
I run 130 fps with AH @ 1024X800 with 32bit color and Mip mapping and its SOOOO nice!!
WWIIol runs with 40fps @ same resolution
mh.. maybe the configuration.....
u think Lunux can speed up that?
-
WOW
130 fps in AH on that system !!!
Are you sure you havent made any typos? Didn't know the 7500 came with 128mb ram on it.
thats real good.
-
yes this 7500 cames with 128mb DDr. Well i live in mexico, th eplace where you can find everything from a $500 bucks super computer to a Super "Radeon 9800 128 ddr " for just $150!!!
im sure, no typos maybe its the Room temperature, its always so cold!
i have snapshots showing frame rate. I dont know how to post them...hehehe
it runs 200fps@16 bit colors and 1024x800
-
FORGOT!!!
P4 2.0 Ghz
i have configured my machine. when i play any game i close almost all the programs that my computer runs. so i get the whole video Mem free.
-
Mine is
2.2Gig Athlon XP
AOpen AK77-8XN mobo 400 fsb
512MB PC2700 333 (running at 400mhz)
Radeon FDX8500LE 64MB
Sony TFT 15"
also have the limiting effect of a TFT monitor (60hz) therefore just a steady 59fps in AH if i run with no full screen ant-aliasing.If i use 2x Antroscopic and 4xsmoothvision(tm) basically same as 2xfull screen AA(maybe even 3x or 4x AA) I get from anywhere from 39 to 59 FPS depending on map and how many aircraft are present.
If you dont know what AA is, the difference between AAoff and AAon is imense visually!. Instead of those garish jagged edges to all the straight lines like the outlines of buildings or wings you get a blended look which softens the colours, sort of blends it in in realtime. In 1024x748 it means everything looks much nicer and since my system never seems to drop below 39fps or so, its a good trade off.
The only thing is I bought the TFT hoping it would be fast enough in refresh for AH but i'd have to say i wish I had spent a little more and got the 75Hz or newer even faster refreshing TFT's.
basically i Bought it because it was so easy to move and took up much less room and i loved the vibrant colours and they are much better for your eyes(no flicker).I saw the 60hz speed and guessed it would be ok. Its fine but its not Great. Id recommend TFT as a purchace but get a faster than 60Hz refresh rate. I still dont regret buying it though. The size to me seems to feel the same as my old normal 17" monitor. Judging by this id say a 17" TFT would look much larger.
Im looking forward to AH2.If it needs more power then its ok as i soon intend to buy a new card but i have VOWED never to spend more than £200 on a card. This means i need a £200 or less card that makes a leap forward over the one i have else i wont bother. If anyone knows of a card let me know(£200 is probably @$290?,guessing).
also Id be happy to upgrade to 1024MB of memory. (@£60)
If it needs more then im screwed :D

Hazed try get a used 9700pro, they now go for about 120-140£ I see.
They almoust as good as teh 9800pros but much cheaper.
And all the fanatic hardware entusiasts is now selling their 9700s for gettting a 9800 :D

What kind of monitor do you have? Do you disable v-sync? How are you pushing that high a framerate with that card? What kind of refresh rate do you have your monitor set to?

Do you have a tft screen, if so its locked at 60 or 70 whatever your max is.
I have and I dont worry since a framerate over 60 wont be noticable for the human eye anyway.

Hmmmm....all this talk about new cards 'n stuff. I'm wondering if my standard Gateway with it's NVIDIA TNT2 32MB AGP will be enough to run AH2. Someone please weigh in on this. Whaddaya think?
Slim03
edit: also have a PIII 866 Mhz processor w/512 MB RAM.
