Hi all,
This is the write up for the next SSO that will start on the 5th Oct.
Please post side and numbers.
==============================================
V-1 Hunters
July - August 1944
No sooner had the Allies gained a beach head in France and the Germans start assaulting London with the V-1.
In early August Churchill makes a statement to the House of Commons and says after seven weeks of non-stop V1 attacks, 5,340 having being launched, that 4,735 have been killed, 14,000 injured and 17,000 houses completely destroyed.
The Allies must stop these attacks, and for the Germans to survive the V-1 must force the Allies to the negotiating table.
This Squad Ops is designed to be a low level JABO oriented battle. The JU 88A4 will be used in a dive bomber role only.

Actually ViFF, talk it over with Grayarea. Its his SSO and that is the special rule he is putting in place. I am sure he would welcome any dialogue on the subject and will discuss his reasoning behind it. I am also sure he will listen to yours and others concerns and input.
Just hurry is all .. 1 week and 2 days to next frame. :)
After running three in a row I am taking a break. Sit back and look over No Day at the Beach, Burma, Husky and think on what went right, what went wrong, and how I can do better for next time.
But for now you get new blood .. well sort of. Sort of like old blood which is tanned, rested, recharged and back --> Grayarea.

GrayArea... whats with the 10k alt cap enforced by wind layer ?
can't we do without this ?
-
Hi all,
The thinking behind this 10k alt rule is simple.
This particular SSO is trying to represent the low level JABO environment present in the V1 hunt at this point in history.
Several people I have chatted to recently said they are sick of having to climb to 30k to stand *ANY* chance in the last SSO.
Personally I find it a sad duty to enforce design criteria with a wind layer, but without it, people in my opinion would climb like mad when that is not what this SSO is about.
From a side point of view a 10k limit makes some sense as both sides have good planes with similar performance below 10k, excluding the Spit of course which does well at any alt.
Personally I have no preference for the 10k limit, I am happy to go with the majority view.
-
Well, I believe that the short icon range setting used in the CT & events does the work for you.
Two opposing flights flying with 15-20k seperation will usually completely miss each other. This is more prevalent in terrains where there is a great number of dark pixels in the ground texture allowing the "dot" to blend in. The "dot" is usually picked up because we catch it moving on the terrain.
if in this upcoming SSO the attackers would choose a low level ingress chances are they won't be spotted by the defenders if they fly above 20k...
The drawback to a 10k alt limit can present a real problem after the flights already see each other and a fight develops. Nobody would be able to extend above this alt for an advatage during the fight.

Too attack a ground target, the Jabos have to come down low, thats a given, so whats the problem? Its not like the Tiffies will drop at 25k and run home. The Jabos go low, the escorts go low, the interceptors go low...its all going to be low at some point, thats a given .
I can only see an alt limit on level bombers, representing max dropping alts, ex B-17s max at 25k.
Thats how I see it, but its not my call.

Viff,
Your comment about high CAP missing low bandits is invalid because of base flashing.
Squire,
If you accept it make no differance then there cannot be an issue with the rule can there?
-
WOD may be short for this Squad Ops, I will be in Florida for the whole series, and Tilt is away in Dusseldorf on the first frame.
The second frame lands on the UK con weekend. I'm not sure if Tilt has included the SSO in his diary of events, but expect a few drunken pilots from the brit squads :-)
Dstar will be the WOD CO for this series.
-
but Gray, when the base starts flashing then its already too late isn't it ? ;)
-
Hi.
As AndyH said, I will be co-ordinating The Wings of Death for this SSO.
Despite those AWOL, we should still be able to muster about 5 pilots because we normally have a guest or two.
Allied preferred
-
Dark,
Could you email me an email address please.
-
Viff- I'd like to remind that 5th Oct is "Kipur". I'm not sure how many will show for SSO....:(
Grayarea- About 10k max ceilling. i fly a bit on KOTH where it's 12k for wind and i get very Clastrophobic:D it's cool for dogfighting...expect little survivors. Alot of dissapointed pilots will go home after a very short combat. plus lots of HO's:eek:
There is very little room for tactical ingagement.
