(Savvy-900 points here, I missed the train stopping distance question)
-
Just me or is that test designed by morons, for morons?
-
800 here. And I only messed up on those weird interstate questions.

Don't feel bad you scored low.
Considering that Transportation incidents ranked as the seventh leading cause of death in the United States in 1998, and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 6 and 27, its probably a good idea to get the public informed on safety, don't you think?
-
Weren't you the retard going around speeding taking pictures of his speedometer?
-
About half those questions have nothing to do with safety. A lot of the stuff on that test varies from state to state. And some of it (stopping distances) is flat wrong. You have to think like a moron to get it right. If traffic safety is based on crap like that test, God help us.
-
Yeah! 900 and I'm not even American although I have driven in the States. I messed up the exit question which happened in real life too. missed the exit and had to drive halfway across the state before I could turn around. I didn't get the decreasing numbers on the highway question either, East, West who cares it's the destination that counts.
-
i failed the test , that explanes why i've never had a accident.
take the train question, 'how long does it take a train to stop"?
answer...the train will stop 500 yards after it has destroyed your car and killed you. that is the correst answer

Yes, but those that do are good refreshers.

Uhhh, no.

I'm sure they used an average.

Like I said, don't feel bad because you failed the test....just learn from it (at least the safety questions)
-
700, missed half of questions about road direction
is that test for kids?
-
can't get any of them right.
who cares?
-
Bah, 1450 here. Those questions are pretty much basic knowledge.
-
Rip the rules for merging and the exit signs vary from state to state.
-
600 here. I could be in trouble venturing into unknown territory on the highway without a navigator. Couple things the test didn't cover were common sense things like, pull over if you are nodding off, or if it's raining too hard to see (fog included), and don't allow your gas tank to run empty. Range on my car is about 350 miles.
And by all means, become a member of AAA. They've helped me out many times, and the membership is well worth the asking price.
*Interesting note: never, ever, ever pull over on a bridge or elevated interstate shoulder unless you have to. If you see blue lights behind you, wait until you are off the elevated part to pull over, even if it means going several miles before stopping. Pulling over under these circumstances (on an elevated highway or bridge) is extremely dangerous for you and the police officer.

400 here I got pretty disturbed by those "unit" inches miles and yard :)
The highway sign are pretty stange for me ...
-
Got the train question wrong, I picked 3 miles.
It said wrong a train takes further to stop then most people think, its stops in 1.5.
?
That test is stupid.
-
Funked, the 41 of 50 states I've driven in "merging" onto a freeway, not one single interstate had the merging traffic as having right of way. Maybe you've just developed bad driving habits? ;)
-
The stopping distances were wrong but it was obvious what the answer was because the other two answers were ridiculous... Those questions didn't teach anything about saftey but may have helped with test taking skills.

Can you provide a link for the right stopping distances? Thks.
-
Rip... you can get 60 to zero average stopping distances from any car magazine that features road tests. The average these days is about 150-200 feet with many below 150 Three times that is a little high even including reaction time. I guess if you count dialing the cell phone or reloading the CD player in that reaction time then they could be pretty close.

Gimme facts and data or shut up. :) Make sure you average it. I'm certain my BMW stops in half the time of your El Camino, but what about taking the two and averaging it?
-
you would be wrong then. In the last baer brake challenge a '65 Chevelle with a similar setup to mine won the braking part of the challenge with a stopping distance of 105 feet while the BEST bmw there ( a twin turbo M3) did 116 feet.... all 60-0.
I don't bet very often but I will be more than glad to bet pink slips (no dowding... don't get excited.. it is the U.S. term for automobile title of ownership) that.... you can not stop in half the distance that my old wore out El Camino can in your BMW from 60 to 0. If you feel that your car it worth more then I will be glad to make up the difference in cash.
When do we do it?

LOL! I have 13" rotors Laz! And my car weighs 3200 lbs! Stock!
By the way, theres no such thing a Twin Turbo M3.
-
No... there is not... and there is no such thing as a stock four wheel disc brake chevelle... the challenge was an "anything goes" event.
but.... with those 13" rotors and a manly man like yourself driveing and... a leather gucci bmw keyfob... and... since you customized your car by oicking the color.... you should have no trouble winning the bet....
name the time and place... gotta be a dry asphalt stretch and be legal and safe.... and you will be that much closer to owning or crushing a wore out old 69 El Camino. All ya gotta do is stop in half the distance it will from 60-0 ...
heck... we can even have the guys on your bmw newsgroup run and judge the event.
Oh.... there were 4 chevelles in the even and the worst one stoped 25 feet further than the bmw. The bmw was using aftermarket ceramic pads but so was most everyone.
The worst car in the event was within 60 feet of the bmw ( a 65 impala wagon with disc drum combo).
But... the color and key fob and reading your newsgroup should give you the edge that you need to prevail.

By the way, nice way of diverting attention from facts and data that you failed to supply to prevent from looking wrong by the averages posted by the National Transportation Safety Board. I will give you that. :)
-
Train stopping question is porked... a full speed train? An urban Train? .... most states require urban trains too be much, much slower... handsomehunk test desingers .. you need to include "full speed" in the question
-
150 yards to stop a vehicle going 60 mph on a bright, sunny day with dry road conditions? I don't think so. My 4runner can stop in less distance than that.
I scored 850, missing the Interstate exit question (I didn''t know the exit sign placement above the roadsign would indicate the side of the road the exit was on).

I just looked at the fact that the exiting car had its nose in front of the merging car. The car in front has the right of way.

Well, actually it was you who said your big money waste could stop in half the time his el camino could. He was just responding to that suggestion, and asked you to prove it. Now, if you believe you were wrong, you could probably get this thread back on track by just admitting it, rather than trying to avoid his request.
-
700.
Ones I got wrong - the train question (did it say the length/weight of the train? Wouldn't that make a difference?), the one about the mile markers increasing/decreasing, and the one about which lane to be in - never knew that the positioning of the exit sign on top of the highway sign represented the exit lane.
I got the stopping distance questions right, but wouldn't it depend on the car's brakes? Damn sure my Golf can stop a lot quicker (servo assisted disc brakes with ABS) than the Beetle (drum brakes all round, no ABS, no power assistance, single leading shoe - LOL!).
-
Rip... how did I avoid the question? I told you to look at any magazine that does road tests and look at the stops from 60-0.. I would suggest you go to the Motor Trend website or the Car and driver one if you can't think of any.

-
And... Let me know when you want to do that bet. I was looking at some bmw's and I think I could fix it.

1300... i didnt know about the orientation of the exit number above the sign :)
-
That was gay,
200 pts here.
