Title: So do you think things in this country
Post by: GtoRA2 on September 25, 2003, 11:26:00 AM
So do you think things in this country.(USA)

Will be better or worse 10 years from now?

How about 20?

Why?

I think things are only going to get worse.

I do not think in 10 years or even 20 the world is going to end or anything stupid.

I do think all the things I see now that disgust me are just going to get worse.

I think we sue over really stupid things now and it just going to get worse. I do not think we will see tort reform laws. Too many lawyers stand to lose much.

I think Politics is just going to get dirtier and more partisan. I can not think of very many politicians I can stand or would even want to shake hands with.  It blows my mind the choices we are forced to make on politicians. There most be some kind of secret career path for Pimps, used car salesmen and scummy lawyers? Do they get some kind of secret mail that says “to sleazy for your current job, try politics?” :D

I think Hillary is going to run and I really think it will be a bad thing if she wins. My reasons for this are 1: I think she is far too far to the left and will **** things up. I do not want national healthcare ETC. 2: You think politics are partisan now? I think Hillary more the GWB will divide this country. I did not despise Clinton, I have posted before I did not think he was horrible as a president though I do not respect him personally. But he was popular. Maybe I just was not paying attention, but I do not remember things being so partisan and dirty when he was in office. I despise her, and not in a wholly reasonable way. I know many people who feel as I do. Something about her really bothers me. I also do not respect her in the least.

I think in my life time, I will see most guns taken from the people of this country. Even though, more guns mean less crime. I think in my life time you will see most of the public land you can drive a 4 wheeler on closed. Even though it’s public land and responsible wheelers clean up after them selves and do not hurt anything.

I think we will see more terror attacks in the states. If I was a terrorist I would use the ease you can cross the Mexican border to get bombs into this country or WMD’s Maybe then we will close our borders and take illegal immigration seriously. I really doubt it though.

I do not feel any of our politicians really care about us or really represent us anymore. I think it will just get worse.

Well I am done rambling for now.

Oh, I dunno. Electing Hillary may dramatically reduce any over population problems we have in the US. Of course most of those leaving will probably take their money with them so maybe you're right after all.

I think that our representatives no longer represent the people.

Corporate avarice and greed is the problem.

Until we have campaign finance reform and real term limits, we the people will continue to be less important to our elected representatives than the corporations that finance their ascent.

Hillary... if she's too far to the left, she won't be elected. Perfect example is her husband. Certainly, he benefited from the Perot campaign for his first term, but he won his second term by taking Dole's platform right out from under him.

If only Bob had done those VISA commercials before his campaign. ;)

I think that the tone and level of attack by the opposition went ballistic during Clinton's Presidency.  A good measure of the effectiveness is the long list of things people still believe are true about the man.

Foster's death
Travelgate
Whitewater
The list of "mysterious deaths"
Filegate

and on and on

The tone continues, and has become almost mainstream.

Regarding your original question though, I felt much as you do back in the 60's and 70's. There was no way we were going to survive untill 2000 let alone get better. Nuclear war seemed inevitable. I'm much more optimistic now.

Dole was a Joke. Did anyone even the reps think he had a chance?

What do you think of Mrs Clinton? Do you think she is more left leaning then her husband? Would you vote for her?

What about Clark? I am turn on him. Hackworth seems to like him, I think he prolly is not getting a fair shake from the right at the moment.

Can you give me some reasons for your optomism? Like I said I do not think the world is going to end, I just don't see things getting better.

I am a generaly upbeat guy, politics have just been disgusting/depressing me recently though.

Well, any humorous spot. Most people like funny. If Arnold wasn't funny do ya think he'd have a snowball's chance at the Governor's mansion?

My optimism stems from the changes I've seen over the years.

When I was a teen, there was more inequality, more pollution, a greater chance for a global conflict, less opportunity for women, etc. etc.

It is hard to describe how bleak things looked in the 70's. Disco was born for God's sake! The Apocalypse must be right around the corner!

Rip, it is up to us, but even looking at this board, hardly anyone agrees on anything.

We fight over politics when they are all SCUM..

How do we the people change anything. Hell most people do not even care enough to vote.

LOL disco... I can see how that would have seemed like the end of the world... lol.

Hmmm

I forgot to mention, the middle east and the Isreal Palistine thing. I do not think thats going to change any time soon, just get worse. That in turn will keep turning out terrorists.

My Dad, whom I greatly respect, has been forecasting the end of life as we know it for about the last... ummmmm... 40 years or so.

He's a straight-laced Catholic and politically conservative. He actually does worry about "the future".

My basic belief is that people are people. I think Mazlow was pretty close in defining their "needs":

Quote

1. Physiological Needs (food, water, warmth, air, etc.)

   2. Safety Needs (structure, protection, peace, comfort)

   3. Love Needs (love, friendship, acceptance, understanding)

   4. Esteem Needs (attention, self-respect, recognition)

   5. Self-Actualization Needs (challenge, curiosity, growth)

As each lower level is met, the next, higher level can be achieved.

So, bottom line, while I think that change is continuous and inevitable (while sometimes not desirable to all... think Rap music... ;) ) it doesn't mean the "end of life as we know it".

Because people are people and the life they seek is going to be based loosely around what Mazlow prioritized.

Now feel free to jump in here, tell me I'm crazy, that this is all Bush's fault, that the UN could have saved us all but we wouldn't let them, etc., etc., etc.  :D

I continually remind my dad he's forecast "THE END" due to some event or other about once a year.. for 40 years.  ;)

Even if Hillary WERE elected, would it be THE END????? !!!! ???

Nope. In the end, people just being people would "save" us. Simply by doing what they needed to do along the lines Mazlow proposes.

You *would* have to put a dark cloud on it, wouldn't you.. :(

Do you think that California is a progressive state?
