While I was in San Francisco we set up our next meeting. It will be in KC in April. This should give you KC guys plenty of time to at least set up a good BBQ before the lynching.
;)
-
Jealous...those KC guys are very cool.
Can't wait until I get my KC rubs, sauces and smoker...mmmm ribs.
-
MT,
You lying, low-life, commie-pinko liberal, situational-ethecist and general bad guy...
I look forward to your visit!
How long you staying? How long do you want the BBQ crawl to be? Wanna go shoot guns and other evil conservative stuff? How much free time you got? What else you want to do?
Largest tourist attraction in Kansas right now is the big new Cabela's store.. great taxidermy. This stores "feature" is Mule deer. An impressive display in all their habitats.
See ya then!
Kaliforny Commie bastige.

Not sure yet, but if these things run true to form I should have at least one full day off, and most nights after 5:00. Usually a 4 day trip.
I would be more than happy to experience any reactionary, bible thumping, gun toting, narrow world view, cowboy acting, Clinton hating activity you all can think up. But I do want to see some airplanes... duh!
Looking forward to it.

one of the few things I really enjoyed about living in K.C. is the quality of beef you can get (west coast beef just doesn't compete).
the best steak I ever had was a resteraunt that was damn near next door to the stock yards (Golden Ox, I think but it's been over 10 years).
-
The Golden Ox still exists, it's still good. So's Hereford House and several others.
Airplanes? BT-13's and a PT-19 at the CAF Hangar.
One of the guys in the unit has an F4F recovered from Lake Michigan in his hagar in Lawrence ~ 30 miles away. Probably could set up a tour of that. He's got some neat stuff, Beech Staggerwing and MiG now I hear.
Sounds like fun.
-
Curval,
I think I finally found you're smoker. Brinkmann improved their "El Cheapo".. now it's ~ $45-50 but they've done a lot of the modifications everyone was doing. Probably worth it.
Will send ya details when I get home.
-
Will be there Sunday evening (not sure when... driving in from Lake of the Ozarks to KC). Business Monday 8-5 and Tuesday 8-??? fly out on Wed. Hope to meet some of ya'll.
-
Toad, did you ever find a buyer for your PT-19?
-
BTW
Stringer has my cell # and hotel location. If any more info is needed let me know.
Kansas City
Kansas City hear I come.
they got some crazy little women there
but I'm a dead man if I get me one.
-
I've met just three different people from KC but all three were so... chit... nice, easy, grounded, cool.... that I promised myself I'd visit there one day.
-
I'm thinking maybe Toad and Rude are gonna take me to some underground deprogramming center to rip the liberal devil out of my cold cold heart...
or maybe we'll have some good steaks.
-
We'll be paying close attention to you upon your return to civilization, MT. Trust me. :)
-
No worries, MT, I didn't rub off on Pongo one bit when he was in Seattle, and visa versa :aok
-
That's cuz ya can't cut 'n paste in person, Rip.
Come to think of it, your virtual cut 'n paste jobs don't seem to have that effect either.
hehe
er... But it's no big deal. Most folks find that "rubbing off" on your guests is rude if not downright disgusting..
-
Is that a dry rub?
-
MT because I tried to save a few pennies I utilized Greyhound for my trip home from KC. On the return leg the bus got there at midnight and NOTHING AT THE AIRPORT OPENDED UNTIL 5AM. I stood thier for 15 minutes staring at some fat old woman witha mustach waiting to buy coffee and ciggarets. she was doing nothing but reading a book and wouldnt open the door till 5.

dude I spent over 12 hours in the KC airport in 1985 or 86. Pretty big airport but man it gets REAL boring after oh about 20 minutes :D
-
I don't plan on being in the airport any longer than it takes to rent a car and hit the road.
I sure hope you 13th TAS guys are in town.

I lead by example. Have you lately? ;)
-
MT,
We're in town!
We'll have ya covered.
Just let us know what night(s) you're free and we'll but you in BBQ heaven!
-
Not to hijack, but...

How did he work the deal with the Navy? I know there have been many ownership/recovery issues with most of those recovered so far. I did get to see the private flying F4F-3 at Oshkosh a few years back. Still had air in the tires and a working battery when they pulled it from the lake.

Apathy, I've heard this before about West Coast beef but I thought the beef sucked in Maryland, (Never been to Kansas tho.)
-
I think it has to do with proximity to the cattle. I lived in Central California (ranch and farm country) and had some excellent steaks and beef ribs there.
-
MT, I apologize but I'm not going to be in town. I had looked forward to stuffing your liberal belly with truly outstanding right-wing KC BBQ and Boulevard Beer!
However, there's a very serious illness in my family and I'm in attendance in DC right now. I'll be here for an unknown amount of time until the situation resolves itself somewhat.
I'm sure String, Milo, Rude, Zip and the others will take good care of you. I hope you make it back another time when I'm in town. You would have enjoyed seeing the Labs work too, I think.
Enjoy!
Rip, yeah, sold the PT last summer. Nice thing is it was to a guy on the field. He kept it in the same hangar and joined my CAF unit with it. So, all went as well as it could.
-
NP Toad, Hope all goes well with your family, and yes I would enjoy watching a trained lab..... mine is just lovable in a Homer Simpson kind of way.
-
Have a Beer at Kelly's for me..

I'm pretty sure I'm in...
I'll check the squad BBS and see whats up. It all depends on the day. Being a special occasion though I might be able to break whatever the wife has planned for me ;).

Rude, Milo, Zip and myself for sure on Sunday.
