Did the crew have toilets on board of the bombers in long missions?? or they saved " ordnance" until bomb bay were open over tgt??
What about the fighters in escort?? Diapers & relief tubes??
Would be nice to get relief tubes in AH2, but different sizes (M,XXL)
relief tubes (http://quanonline.com/military/military_reference/American/urine.html) :lol

piddle packs were collected and dumped over Bremen where they were collected and used to brew Becks...it's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Been a while since i read "The Wild Blue" but I seem to remember that they didnt have em
And what he said ^ abouts Beck's, what a nasty beer:D
Edit: Yeah, I know most US beer is nasty also, but I drink Red Hook, Sierra Nevada etc etc. Not disimilar to a Newcastle Brown or Samuel Smith Ale

B17 and Lancasters had them, dunno about other planes.
-
was in a Sunderland a few days ago, that has a toilet, and even a mini workshop for minor repairs.
-
H8K "Emily" had them.
I'd be very surprised if the B-29 didn't. It had bunks after all.
As to fighters, well, you should have gone before flying. But if you have to go, you have to go. You'll have a pretty unpleasant mess to deal with though.
-
B17s had a bucket you could poop in, and a small tube that you could urinate in.
Quite a few airmen died from eating foods that caused gas. At 30,000 feet their intestines could and sometimes would burst.

Every time I read that it freaks me out. I keep picturing a german spy infiltarting the 8th Air corp as a cook and feeding all the men chilli for supper....:(
Is nothin sacred in war:(

awww.. how.. morbid
So you only had to fart on the way up or what?

ok, question about that pony pilot...for all you "historians" on airplane specs...
he mentioned 5 hours of flight? was that possible with 100% and drop tanks? if so, MAN, what a rice burner!!!
LMAO:rolleyes:
-
P51D often credited with 8 hours plus

There was a story about a co-pilot (I think) of a B17 who would hold off pooping until over Germany on every mission. Just before the bomb run he would relieve himself into a bag of some sort and when the bombs were dropped he dropped that out too.
He called it the schiese bomb or something...someone posted it a while back.

I don't believe B17s flew that high. Burst intestines because of gas expansion at the altitudes they flew would be very unlikely. I know a thing or two about barotrauma. However, if you have any links to info on the subject, send them.
In reading history, I don't believe piddle packs were general issue for the most part. People did acquire them on their own with mixed results.
Nowadays I have read a lot of fighter pilots basically use something like a Depends adult diaper on long missions.
-
How about these B2 pilots that fly 20 hours missions. Do these guys get a portable DVD or anything to pass the time?

If you want some of the answers read 'Combat Crew' by John Comer. A real insight into what it was like.
Slipping off the heated gloves at 30,000 feet to turn on the hi-fi wouldn't have been a good idea :)

Or pooping in the empty ammo crates when you have the toejams and spilling it over the bombadier by accident :)
(i had that book when i was about 12, very good! no idea where it is now though :()

Fleiger Schiesse I believe. Translated, it means "flying chit".

Not exactly, the piddle packs have advanced a long way from an empty bag. They have some sort of crystalline substance in them that turns to a solid gel after use. Makes it much easier to dispose of after flight, and whole lot cleaner. If they're going on a long flight, fighter guys will usually carry a few along.
