Title: reasons why not to go to certain computer shops

#1 they dont even have a website
#2 they have a website...with one page
#3 they have a website...with one page...done in flash
#4 you take your computer in to get fixed...it comes out 600mhz slower than it went in
#5 the only answer they have to your problem is to wipe your harddrive
#6 they still sell radeon 7000's for over $100
#7 the same computer rig has been sold for the past 3 years...as a new computer...

We have an outlet here called PC World. Your list desribes PCW to a T - especially the "wipe the hard drive" catch-all solution. :rolleyes: Here's a few more -

• PC store that sells elaborate inventory management software, but whose own inventory management system for stock that's out there on the shop floor consists of some scribbled notepads.
• Staff whose standard response to any query on any of their products is "it's what it says on the box".
• Stores where it's Saturday every day - judging by the average staff member's knowledge of the products on sale.

I was in PC World once, and wanted some screws - standard mobo/PCI card attachment screws. They said they were out of stock at the moment... How can a computer supplies store not have screws for sale? Ah, got it - not big ticket items. :rolleyes:

I shop online these days. But you have to be very careful. If you make a mistake and order the wrong thing, online mail order places won't even accept unopened goods for return, under any circumstances.

Did a fix-up job on a friend's PC 2-3 months ago. It was sold at an "unbeatable value" price - PC store parlance for "marked down end of product line". It had 128MB of memory - for W-XP. :lol And no dedicated video card. :lol:lol So 16MB of RAM was being grabbed to handle the video. :lol:lol:lol I advised the folks not to buy a boxed PC in future!

My guess is that 8 of 10 problems are software related. This is an effective solution with the least amount of time invested.
