Title: quiet Power Supply recommendations?
Post by: Sancho on October 01, 2003, 09:07:47 PM
I seek a recommendation for power supply.  My current 365W P/S ain't cutting it.  My main requirement for power supply is that it be quiet and also of course that it has enough juice to power all my current and near future components.  I plan to upgrade CPU/mobo/RAM around tax return time next year to Athlon 64 so I suppose I'm looking for 400W or higher.

Here's what I've got now:
Athlon 1.4GHz T-bird on Abit KT7A with 1.25GB PC-133
Radeon 9800
2 optical drives: a lite-on 52x CD-RW and a Samsung DVD
1 Seagate Barracuda 5 120GB hard drive
RTL-8029A network card
Guillemot Maxi-sound Fortissimo sound card
no-name firewire controller card
2 80mm case fans and an 80mm fan on the CPU

Very happy with my Antec TruePower 430W.

I'm running my rig with 3 80mm case fans and I don't hear my computer unless I'm making a point to listen to it.  The PS has an electric fan speed control dealie that keeps the fan speeds low, and raises them if temps go up.

Definately cannot say enough good things about the rail distribution Antec has chosen for the TruPower line of supplies.

They have several models.  The 430W should handle almost any system.  Now, if you have any USB devices requiring a lot of power, you might want to step up to the 480W version.

The TruPower make use of temperature/load controlled fans so and they stay much quieter than virtually any case fan I have come across.
