vowing to slap a freeze on government spending and extract billions from Indian casinos.
Does Arnold not realize that the Indian nations enjoy their own sovereignty and that they cannot simply be taxed by a state unless they agree to it?
"I'm here to talk about governing. We are ready to take office. We are ready for action."
This scares me to... You don't hear any of this "WE" crap oughta McLintock (or Bustamante, AFAICT).
-
Who the he!! is "We"? I already voted for Mclintock

"Arnold is clueles"
You certainly have a flair for the obvious, don't you. ;)

I have no doubt that some deals have been made in other states in the past. I simply doubt that Arnold has the leverage to coerce anything from the indians.

I believe Bigsky was being a little more historical in context.

Yeah... I saw that initially as well, but decided to stay with the more recent context. :)

Just a side note:
Premise: Indian nations are sovereign.
Question: When a politician accepts Indian money for his election campaign, is he then accepting foreign money?

Excellent question.

not exactly holden, montana has gambling, so when the crow reservation built a big casino with more games the state went to court and had it comply with state gambling rules, because that would have "unfair" compition with the people making money off gambling off the the rez. seems lame and it is. indians got enough problems without messing with what little income that they get.

I was just asking a rhetorical question, Bigsky.
to get back to the original thread intent,
Tribal casinos are not taxable because they are government operations, rather than private, for-profit businesses. Tribal casinos are operated for a public purpose, just as a state lottery to raise revenues for various public programs and services. Federal law specifically prohibits states from imposing taxes on Indian gaming operations.
Problem is, many casinos are built from capital that comes from traditional sources. These sources need to make back their investment, so they get their cut first. Tribal government gets the last bit.
The basic benifit to the individual tribal member is a job. These are like jobs in a casino in LV or Atlantic city, dealing BJ, serving dinner, etc. While that is extremely important, I have never been overly exited about becoming a casino employee.
Back when Indian Motorcycle was being re invented, I advocated getting the factory built on Pima land in AZ. I thought Indians made by Indians would be a good fit, but my thoughts didn't get too far in tribal government. I would have much rather liked building motorcycles than restocking salad bars.
Now that Indians are not being made anymore, I may have another chance.

Arnold will do just fine. There are ways to make the indians play ball.
-
All them indians sure have itallian sounding names. I believe that All casinos should pay equal taxes or be equally legal in America.. if there is some "right" for indians to have gambling then fine...
allow only indians to gamble in the cainos.
I can't wait for Arnie... the fact that he doesn't have a clue is a good thing.... Davis knows all about politics and he gave illegals the right to get a California drivers licence and just trippled the regestration fees for all motor vehicle in the state.
Davis knows every way in the world to screw ya... maybe being clueless is a good thing for government in CA.

Arnold takes care of his body and speak with a foreign acent!
Just want California needs.
And a glass of Pierre with a lemon twist.
If the Kal-I-Fornian's vote him in, more power to them.
However, I think it takes more than one person to screw up a state... and the majority of those people are in the legislature.
