What do I need to get this set up?
I will certainly need to ability to have range extenders (if that is what they are called) as the walls in my house are very thick and made of solid concrete.
I know very little about building networks.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A wireless router preferably one with the 802.1 (g)? standard I cant remember what the newest standard is and a each computer needs either a PCI wireless card or if a laptop a PCMCIA wireless card. Get a router that has good encryption as anyone in the area that has a wireless card can use your bandwidth/packet sniff potentially compromising your data.

Well there's "wireless" and then there's Wireless (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/wireless.jpg)... :D
btw there's Buffalo AirStation WBR-G54 router and WLI-CB-G54A LAN-card you might like: It's done with 802.11g standard with 54MBit/sec speed vs 11MBit/sec speed of 802.11b standard.
Of course that's most optimistic transfer rate but in tests done by Finnish magazine they got 17MBit/sec speed with it compared to 6MBit/sec of "11MBit/s" 802.11b...

btw my system is really wireless: Laptop connecting to cellphone via Bluetooth and cellphone using GPRS for connecting to web. Not too fast, about the same speed what 56k modem can have.
Works in every place you can find from Finland and in most of the european countries too :)
