I changed motherboards a while back went from Via to Nforce and noticed some stuttering. You can run a search for stuttering and find a few threads here. Looks like the most common cause is having sound acceleration all the way up. Turn it down at least one notch. Also some reports of Zonealarm causing trouble. I had to turn off motherboard monitor to get the stuttering to completely go away. I still run Zonealarm while playing and don't seem to have a problem with it.

I had a similar problem a while back. Skuzzy suggested disabling the vertical sync on the video card and that took care of most of the stutter, but a little remained.
When I installed a home LAN and removed Zone Alarm the rest of the stutter disappeared. Now the video is smooth as silk.

you can also run dxdiag and go to sound and see if hardware acceleration is cranked to full, if so, move it down a notch. that took care of my screen stuttering when i got a new comp/vid card.
