This is going to be the 2nd geforce card I'll have to replace due to the fan burning out in a year if this one goes.
So does anyone else have problems with unrelibable fans on geforce cards, or am I just unlucky with the fans?

no you not
i change fan on my gf2 twice, funny way last time i cannot find in store correct size (in poland)

The reliability of the fan is based on who built the NVidia card. They all used different fans. I would say LeadTek (sp?) and PNY use the cheapest fans from what I have seen.

what about xfx?

I had the first GeForce 256 SDR card for a few years. The fan failed after about 2 years, but a cheap $10 video card HSF replaced it and the card continued to function. You could always go fanless (http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/cnpsvga2.htm) too, but you would probably have to give up the first PCI card slot.

Never heard of them Ben.

I replaced the original fan with more powerfull (made of copper) Thermaltake fan/heatsink combo . There were also heat spreader plates for memory chips in that same package.

Mines been crankin along nice for over a year (the nice gf4 with the huge heat sink)... but the origional 256 then the gfIII fans both died in about 6mo. I think they learned or I got lucky this time.

I ran a Leadtek GF 2 for 2 years, Visiontek GF3 for 3 years, and a Leadtek GF4 4400 for the last 18 months. No problems with any of them.

I've nothing but good stuff to say about LeadTek, Geforce 2 or Geforce 4.
Some of my friends bought other manufacturers cards though, say ASUS, and have had them die.
