I was just wondering what I have to do to become a rook.
Seems like they are having a load of fun every night in the MA and I know I'm not alone in thinking this.
Is there a form I need to fill out or some kind of skill test that I need to practice for?
-
honch is probly being satirical but I will bite...
I would ten times rather fight the bish.. the bish are fun. rooks all fly late war or LW planes and won't attack without a huge advantage. even on the festabria map they won't get into the spirit of the thing... it is like late war B and Z is all they know or want to do. They are no more skilled than the bish but you tend to get less kills per hour since you have to work to get a clear shot/fight with one or two. All his LW buddies are witing for you to be engaged so that they can come off ther perch for one sissy little pass and run at you when you do.
Nothing wrong with that of course... just seems curious to me... probly cause they are all foriegners I guess.

Alot of knights were logging off in disgust last night.
I never looked at the roster, but 3 guys logged in 5 mins. complaining there were 100 more rooks on than knights and they were sick of getting gang banged.
Like I said, I was busy in a GV fight and never checked the roster.
Was last night the Rook Joint Operations?
-
i concur with lazs... altho not allllllll rooks are such timid milquetoasts in run/joust weenie rides, it does seem rooks are more heavily weighted toward them.
yeah muck it was... nothing new there, it's sunday afternoon/evenings, has been for a while.
i think at peak, rooks had like 240 on to 140 knits and maybe 180 bish. of course rooks and their bishes were both hitting knits hard in a hamstardish lust for reset.
-
Sounds like Laz found a jabostaffel squadron.
During RJO, you'll see more late-war rides than the early/mid-war stuff because the goal is conquest and the P-51D, P-47D-30, P-38, FW190A8, and the bombers tend to be better and ground attacks than the mid-war fighters.
From the time I've spent online with the FesterMA map, the Spit V seems to be the uber plane for once!
Oh, and to join the winning team, just go to the Map Room. ;)

I did not know that was a normal thing. I don't normally play on Sunday.
So I guess if you want to avoid the gangbang, play CT on sundays.
-

No news here, move along :D
-
gofaster ... i have been rook. they are even less fun to be than to fight. I don't want to fight over scraps anymore than play dodgeball with all the foreigners. Rooks are a bunch of sissy, sky accountants who won't play without a huge advantage. The 3 or four rooks who aren't like that are of course, the exception.
bish are kinda fun tho... they get into the spirit of the thing.

We were hitting the rookies, too. BUT they have a habit of killing the strat 2 fields deep on our side to keep us out of their back yard.
You know the drill:
Five or six suicide porkers to kill troops and ord.
Five or six more to kill the fuel
Rinse, repeat for next base.

Excuse me, but wasnt it not that long ago when Rooks complained about being out numbered. Back when the 81st switched sides. Then a few squads posted on the board ideas on how to even the sides up. Where were the bish/knits saying how unfair it was for the rooks? Oh, wait , you didin't. you were perfectly content in having numbers and now that the worm has turned you want to say something about the inequity of MA numbers. Bah you bunch of wussy hypocrites.

I miss when we were in current Knit's position.

Easy, tough guy.
Gangbangs are not nearly as much fun as an even fight.
Who want to be number 10 in line to kill the one enemy plane?
Who wants to be THAT one enemy plane?
The rooks have had a numerical advantage for 6 month or more. No worries. And then the rooks were outnumbered, they did enough complaining for all 3 sides...no need to the knights and bish to chime in.

How long are you Rooks going to use how you used to be outnumbered as a crutch? Then was then, and now is now. Besides, many Bish and Knits were honestly concerned... a concern that you don't share now. Else, you wouldn't organize those country wide gang bangs with more players than the other two combined.
But it doesn't matter... it's good to be a Knit. Knits don't care if Bish or Rooks are conquoring the arena. We've gotten used to it. In the last few months I've seen a few times when the Knits could have gotten a reset but didn't, because most just don't care. It's natural to feel that way when you so seldom have a chance to do it.
So outnumber us, take our bases, milk and pork to your heart's content. The Knits will find a fight and have fun. And when you ruin it, we'll move on. And we will get buckets of perks and fly perk planes cheap. The only bad thing is when it gets down to a handfull of bases, we can't take off without getting vulched, can't fly without getting banged, and can't defend because all the bases are porked, can't capture because all barracks are destroyed. Then we just have to sit in the tower and play cards waiting for you guys to finish your game.
-
is there a way you can find out how many time knights have won in the last 6 months? I bet you can count it on 1 hand  but then when your 100 down every night what are you suppose to do :lol

Last night I did see some smart play, and good defensive tactics by the Knights. I even had a few decent fights. ::Salute::

I fly mostly in the mornings and early afternoon and for the past couple of months the rooks have been more organized. this is one of the main reasons i see for their success. i salute the rooks for their teamwork. as for being gang banged, relax and enjoy or hit their strats to where they cant gang bang you. no one's being forced to play. Muckmaw, yes it was an RJO .. although a little more loosely prepped for than most. Sort of a cross between and impromptu and one where squads were rallied intensively by email (only one email sent out instead of several).
As for late war planes .. no idea how to really get the numbers on those. I have been basically flying the P47D-11 for the most part for last camp and this one.
We also tried to spread things out a bit last night with 4-6 Knight bases being attacked at one time and then 2 Biship bases. Only was coordinating about 12 RJO squads. So until toward the end of the night actually tried to only have 2 squads attacking one target at once.
During the assault on A22 well that turned into a slug match where the Knights stopped the offensive as they concentrated their forces and used jets to beat back the attack. Well done.
Over on the Bishop front the was a holding action against a Bishop offensive at A201. Was told A201, A203 and A200 was intense.
-
There are times and days where for a period Rooks gain air superiority, or better cohesion, or focus. There are other times of the days that the Knights are better organized, cohesived, and focuses and others where its the Bishops.
-
I'm glad to be a rooky. If it wasn't for all my countrymen's support , I wouldn't be able to get an assist.

Yeah, I remember he was all in a lather because Paul Jr. was complaining that he couldn't work on the bike du jour because the phone was ringing off the hook and nobody was there to answer it, and Paul Sr. was up at the new site looking for his bits. Or something like that.
That's probably one of his best quotes yet.

You know, I fly for enjoyment. If I can't up at a base because it's getting vulched, I'll up at one that isn't. If our side wins, great. If not, oh well. I'll fly attack planes, bombers and fighters depending on my mood and the situation. I enjoy 1 vs. 1 fights and I enjoy rampaging over the nme's fields at will.
If you don't like the superior numbers the Rooks are putting up, then combine your forces Bish and Knits. Until HT forces the numbers to be balanced, it'll always be this way for one country.
Our squad left the Knits for the Rooks because the Rooks always seemed more organized. Well, by what happened last night, that seems to be true. Take a lesson and organize your own joint operations.

I met Grimm at the con ... great guy ... fun to talk to and I can imagine him being the overall organizer for the RJO. <> To you all.
BUT ...
I would like to see Gimm and Co. organize and romp the map when numbers are equal. I don't want to piss in your Rook pool (yes I do), but when the Rooks have twice the amount of pilots than the Knights, and more pilots than the combined total of the Bish and Knights, it doesn't take a whole lot 'o organization to romp in any direction they so choose.
I am not one who gives a hoot who wins or who loses these virtual wars, but all this back-slappin' and chest puffin' cause "We are so much more organized than you" is complete BS ... ITS ALWAYS THE NUMBERS !!! If I am wrong, then the Rook will romp and reset when numbers are basically equal.
Being a Knight, and being in the barrel has resulted in more fun and fights than I could ever ask for ... keep up the good work Rooks and Bish.

Yes, Its amazing what a little cooperation and organization can do to for a country, Its not hard to rally a great turn out for the rooks.
When the Call for an RJO goes out, I know many in our squad will show up, when they normaly would not fly. The same is true for many other squads. So we almost always have numbers on those nights.
The truth is, Most Rooks enjoy nights when we are all mostly on the same page, working together. Its part of the fun for many. Its the people and squads, working together that makes the Rooks great to fly for. :)
Im Still waiting for our opponets to get organised.. (hint, hint)

My sentiments exactly. ;)

Slapshot,
Thanks :) Right back at ya... your a heck of a guy yourself.
I just finished another reply and it stated my take on numbers, Yes Numbers normaly rule. But its the organisation that generates those numbers. So, its both numbers and organisation.
The RJO has won a reset a while back, a year or two ago, When we did not have the numbers, I remember since I was the CiC of that one. We were the country in middle as far as numbers. Now thats the exception, not the rule.
Ghostdancer, Dawg, Myself have a standing challenge to the knights and Bishops. Get yourselves organised, and meet us in the SEA at a specific time and go head to head. I too would like to see how that went. :)
When we first started getting Joint Ops going, I figured after about two times trouncing the area, the Bishops and Knights would follow suit and be clubbing us in return. It still hasnt happened. I really think our opponets are missing out on a fun experience.

Oh yeah! Quit peeing in the pool!!! ;) LOL!

Sounds like you're starting to believe your own BS? Even starting to sound like beetlejuice. Don't make me have to squelch you! :p

Just another thing... I cant claim credit for the RJO, It was a combined venture between a bunch of people.
Some of those Key folks were GhostDancer (Ghstdncr), Dawg (BFD), Gunner (GunrCAF), myself (GrimmCAF) and a few others that were there from the start.
Today Ghost, Dawg and myself work behind the scences to keep things moving forward and helping things along, But Credit goes out to the squads, their COs and their Pilots that make the RJO work.
Its been alot of fun, Its built alot of commaradiree and friendships between folks outside thier own squad. Its really give many rooks a feeling of comunity. That is truely the best part of the RJO.
Now where do we Keep the Chlorine, Iv got to fix the pool! ;)

As long as the rooks use their numbers to keep sending 24 plane B-17 raids to our HQ, I'll be happy as a knit.

I spent the whole evening flying an A-20G, by choice mind you. No strat porking either. I flew defensive CAP at A44 and A41 fighting off Knit fuel porkers (not that I blame them for that considering the lopsided numbers from the RJO) for over an hour. Ended up with several fun 1 v 1 fights against F4Us and Bf 110s.
Meanwhile, my squad was off on a six sector mission I arrived too late to join in with (whew, I hate those anyway :D ).
Fun night all in all.

I beg to differ. Are you familiar with a movie called "Zulu" with Michael Caine? The story is true and they were outnumbered 10,000 to about 200 or 300 and held the numerically superior Zulu army. Granted the Zulu's only had spears and a few guns, but you can only load and shoot so fast.
An unorganized and vastly superior unit can and will be defeated by a smaller and more organized one, so don't sing that tune. There are numerous battles in history were smaller numbers prevailed over greater numbers.

Kindly explain how this example relates to air combat occurring in three dimensions, especially in light of the fact that the "Zulu" warriors in this case have equal weapons and the inevitable tactical advantage. Thanks.

If the Zulus had been more strategically-minded, they would have porked all of the Brits' back bases to 25% fuel, no ordinance, no barracks, and no radar. And they probably would have made sure to vulch the Brits whenever they tried any sort of defensive manuever.

I suggest a "Zulu" scenario:
Land A: 20 players, full planeset
Land B: 500 players, flying C47 and 5 M3s
Rule: the land which shoots down more planes wins.
I can't help. I think you are an idiot or maybe you are too stoned.

Ain't gonna happen. Go ahead and high five each other for beating the Knits 250 to 150, with the Bish gnashing at our ankles. Getting all those poepl together ain't easy. But to save time, just look at the roster at the beginning. If you have a numbers advantage, just declare yourselves winners and go watch TV.
The Knits had a great time. We used to have a bunch of players who complained when they were outnumbered, but most are gone now. They defected to the Bish and Rooks so they can win too.
But you should know something. Last night (sunday) the Knits won many times. You see, while you are playing the game of grab the arena, we are playing a different game. We just set our sights on a certain base and fight like hell to get it. If we get it against more players, we won. We will protect a base as best we can. When we run out of options and the base is lost, at least we tried. But if we can hold off against massive hordes until they give up, you bet we won.
You may as well be playing solitaire, because when you win a reset, we weren't playing your game. When you have such numbers, the reset is inevitable, so we don't even try. You were in affect playing with yourselves. >=o)
-

..
Sounds really familiar.
Sort of like those speeches us long-time Rooks used to give out to the young Rooks, who lay crushed and broken in their spirits under Knit-Bish ganging hoardes pounding them again and again day after day.
Numbers advantage for 6 months now, eh? Well, then that means we still got 6 more months to enjoy, considering the 12 month grief we went through.
You really should try laying the gripes out to the Bish instead of us Rooks, on the other hand. I pity the battered Knit whines seen everyday at channel 1 - we've been there before. But then again, when's the last time anyone's seen Bishies really suffer? Boy would I like to hear them moan and squeal.. that would really satisfy our sadistic Rook pleasure.. mmmm.
Besides, Bishies are still king of the hill in PAC time zones. 20 man advantage when the numbers are 60 : 40 : 40, is really big.
..
Let's just wait the turn of the tide. Who knows? Next it may be the Knits crowned as the Queen of the Stinking Gangbang Hordes.

We're not justifying anything.
We're just saying that to draw out every last ounce of squealing and whining from the pitiful broken chaps shedding tears over their unfortunate fate of being stuck in numberless countries - both in ch1 and the boards.
And I must say, it's working wonderfully so far. :D

"Numbers advantage for 6 months now, eh? Well, then that means we still got 6 more months to enjoy, considering the 12 month grief we went through."
12 months now ... everytime the rooks try to remind everybody how long the were "in the barrel" the number gets larger and larger.
Again ... I am not complaining about the numbers ... I LIKE IT ... just don't go around spreading your feathers like a proud peacock on how your superior organization is what makes the difference. If you don't realize that its NUMBERS that wins the AH war .. you are dilusional.
Lets see this super organized RJO crack the back of the Bish on your next Subday tailgate party or is your war plan always to conquer the path of least resistance ... past history says so.

Irritated ... me ? nah ... I don't give an S H EYE T who wins the war ... have a blast ... I am just making sure that you keep in touch with reality ... ;)

I'm pretty sure the purpose of this threat was to draw out these RJO heros who think that Rooks are a superior breed - destined to dominate.
I was thinking that maybe there was something special I had to do to become part of this elite fighting force, but apparently all I have to do is go to the maproom and click a button.
Doesn't seem so elite to me after all.
Yes, I think I'll stay Knights. - Seems I'll just have to try to develop those "elite" skills on my own, and i suppose the best place to do that is when I am challenged on every sortie.
Thanks for all the comments!

You know, that's all we needed was for someone to turn this into something personal. That statement about sums up your character and probably took an immense amount of thought on your part.

Honch,
As a past member of the Knights who say Ni, a squad that changed sides fairly often, you should know more than most that all the teams are full of the same crap. All have the same groups of suicide squads, cherrypickers, timids, newbies, strat potatos, score potatos, furballers, gangers, vultchers, etc.
Why give a crap about what any one team does or doesn't do?

I was just wondering what I have to do to become a rook.
Seems like they are having a load of fun every night in the MA and I know I'm not alone in thinking this.
Is there a form I need to fill out or some kind of skill test that I need to practice for?
You need to last a minimum of 30 seconds against fester (in your plane of choice) in the DA.

Pssst ... Furious ... I think this was Honch's latest fishing expediation after the bait got stale on the "How to HO" thread. I played cause I knew he wasn't using barbed hooks.

You've got to remember, these fish are smart. They live for a long time--thirty, forty years. They've been fished year after year--some of the fish we're chasing have been fished for longer than I've been fishing--and they've caught on. John Seabrook.

Wow,
Dont check back for a day and things on this thread are hopping! :)
My... folks can get a tad excited over this stuff!
I figure myself, and most of the Rooks had Fun, and since we had the numbers that about 2/3rds of the folks.
Also, Slap and Grizzly said they had a fun night, So a bunch of Knights had fun.
Sounds like about 80% the Arena had a good time, Whats wrong with that??? ;)
You would think that the Rooks do this every day.... We do this about once a month. 3 hours out of the 720hrs. Thats not even close to 1% of the time. But since its primetime, its about 3% of the primetime hours.
Yes, The Knights got it this time, but the last few RJO ops were against the Bishops. I know if Im CiC I always look for the opponet with the largest numbers. I figure its more fun.
One thing about numbers, Even if an evening starts out fairly close, if one country starts to get pushed hard, Folks just tend to log and suddenly your vastly out numbered. It does not matter which country you fly, Bishop, Rook or Knight.
Well, Im starting to Ramble.... Anyone want a beer??? ;)

"Well, Im starting to Ramble.... Anyone want a beer???
Sure .. grab me one ... and then go clean the Rook pool again ... I stopped by late last night and made a deposit ... :p

If you have a numbers advantage, just declare yourselves winners and go watch TV.
Your right! But rather than TV, I should make the pilgramige to the North and buy you dinner! :)
You were in affect playing with yourselves. >=o)
And since when is that a crime... besides making you go blind! ;)
I had a few great fights against the knights, you guys dont lay down, even if you say you arnt fighting back.

We do it all the time, but once we've finished the joints, the operations go out the window, and we just go shoot some red stuff. More fun that way anywhoo ;)

I must say last nite was fun. My CO and I, DOW for those of you who dont know :), started defending the second island from the nites..It was fast and furious as we held them off for almost an hour and killed a boat load of goons lol......were finaly forced to the CV when they did something I hadnt seen done before..they dumped a bunch of troops out of goons to grab the AI gunners while they tried to sink us with 26's they finaly managed to do it but was fun while it lasted......
we wound up down south fighting rooks then and low and behold the same thing----tons of action with defence being our main objective and it was a blast too..
The only group that Im aware of that seems to fight in a mass are the MAW....some really great sticks in that crowd but hard to fight because they cover each other real well....at least 3 to 1 odds in their favor, lol usually 30 to 1 though hehehe

honch is correct kweeezy.. the point of this thread is to draw out the chest thumpers who havent figured out that.... the country with the most numbers wins.... It is working fine it appears.
wetrat... you and maybe three other rooks are about the only rooks who could last 30 seconds (without running) with anyone in the MA. That's why you need the numbers... rememmber how the rooks were so eaisily slaughtered when they didn't have the numbers? Easiest country to beat I've seen so far.

Oh man... The thread has drawn me out ;)
Iv been a big cheerleader for the RJO since day one, I didnt think that was a big secret, but you found me out .. :D
Some of these threads remind me of the show "King of the Hill"
Yup... There is Laz/Dale, Slap/Hank, and Bettle/Boomhauer all standing along the fence with a beer in hand. (does that mean Im Bill?) ;)
the RJO draws the big numbers, because its fun, Just like Trolling. Big numbers lead to land grab.
For the record, I wish the goal set in AH was other than capture the flag, it would be a better place for it, But sadly thats the name of the game. ::Shrug::
Someone pass me another cold one....
