I was flying my good and trusty Spitfire MK Ia (Yeah, the one with the eight spit-wads), and was shooting up a Typhoon. I'm not sure if I saw it right, but I thought I saw one of my rounds bounce off the typhoon. The tracer might have been from someone else, but, I'm just wondering, can 30cals bounce off planes?
-
I don't think bounce is modelled in planes.
-
I can assure you that .303s do not bounce off of Typhoons. Or any other planes for that matter.

Ok, just me then. Thx!

I"ve never actually seen bullets bounce (cept for tank rounds, )
But I have HEARD rounds bouncing off my hull w/o actually hitting the plane...usually this was when planes were shooting at me from far distances

The only aircraft I have ever shot down with the four .303s on the Spitfire Mk IX was a Typhoon.
I was out of cannon ammo.
Yes, it took a long time.

I pay the extra $2.50 a month for the "rifle caliber bullets bounce harmlessly off my aircraft" feature. I thought everybody did. I thought about paying an extra $2.50 so that I had the "even the paint job doesn't get ruined" feature, but that seemed excessive.

Well i was straffing a tiger with a mossy and my bullets bounched off the tiger and hit my plane and send me to tower lol.

I killed a running typh with a val, got it on film too. Took forever.

.303s kill planes dead. Once the cannons run out, the real fun begins.

I've killed an La-7 with the .303s on my Mossie as well. That was a hard fight.
It seems that a Mossie on fumes with no ordinance or cannon can turn with the La-7. He seemed quite surprised.

It's not difficult to obtain kills with .303s... when the 20mm cannons run out on the Spit V, I always figure that the .303s provide another two to four kills. People run into problems when they use the .303s to minimum effect; these are not snapshot guns. You need to obtain a tracking solution, get in as close as possible, and then let them have it with a sustained burst. Two or three seconds is usually more than enough to bring any fighter down.

I use the .303s for the "he's running away from me and I'm not going to catch him, but maybe if I ping him enough he'll panic and turn back around for me" shots.
Seems to work best against P-51Ds.

I swear the 303s are absorbed by JU88s!! :)

The trick to shooting down a plane with .303 ammunition is that it must be done manually. First get out of your plane and walk to your target. Next push the bullets into the plane with your thumb. Repeat 750 times and your done.

Shhh..Typhoons have sheilds...N1ks have phasers ;)

I've seen 75mm rounds bounce of halftracks. An IIRC even or planes...

Not sure what I saw today. I fired a rocket at a tiger and either it bounced off (ricocheted 90 degrees) or someone in a tank fired at the same time and thats what I saw. Terrifying when you consider the possibility of killshooter from a ricochet.

I've seen RS-182 IL-2 rockets bounce off a Tiger.

Pah, the Spit MK I rips through most planes if you get close enough ;)

I killed Lephturn (P47D11) with a Spit V once using only the .303s. I saddled up on him after bleeding his E and thought "why not!" and ignored the cannon button. Took about 3 seconds of pouring shots into his plane before he went down. He was still hearing pings in the tower. :)
