Hi.
Most of us have very high end pc's wich sit idle for long periods of time.
I'm pretty sure many of you have heard or used the software called Seti@Home wich collectively analizes space data in the search for extraterrestial intelligence.
I recently found a similar company using the same collective-computing concept to analize cancer molecules and help find a cure for the desease. It is an atractive program that runs on the background using your cpu to analize data and then send to the main servers to then be used for cancer research. The program doesnt cause any kind of slowdown at all on my system, and obviously you can turn it off when you are going to play Aces High or any other game. The program can also be run as a screensaver wich shows the work in progress, here is a screenshot from my computer:
I have created an Aces High team wich you can join by downloading the software (and registering a username) Right Here (http://members.ud.com/download/gold/)
and then joining the team, following this link. (http://members.ud.com/services/teams/team.htm?id=68A1910C-C1C3-4049-93ED-01295390EE17)
This software is completly safe and works for a good cause. Also, for each member that joins the team there is a donation to the Make a Wish foundation, and you can be selected for prizes (optional).
For more information about how it works visit the page.
I dont know how big the individual contribution is to the whole cancer cause. But I am sure many of you, like me, have lost family members to this horrible desease, and any contribution I can make is big enough for me to feel good about it.
Download Software (http://members.ud.com/download/gold/)
Join the team (http://members.ud.com/services/teams/team.htm?id=68A1910C-C1C3-4049-93ED-01295390EE17)

Interesting post animal. My dads got non-hodgskins <sp?> lymphoma, not sick yet, but that day will most likely come. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) Yep, cancer is scary stuff.
I tried to register on the site, but it keeps asking me for a password? hmmm, I'll dig deeper when I get home.
-
My uncle died of blood cancer, and my father has a small patch of cancer in his lung, wich is luckily under control.
I am planning on going to the local children hospital to sponsor a child, wich will allow me and my girlfriend to make visits and make gifts.
Some friends adviced me against it, they say I may become to attached to a kid that has a high probability of dying. But the way I see it, there is no better way of appreciating your own life, than to help those who's is slipping away.

Animal is an idiot, but it appears the law of infinite monkeys has been demonstrated.
HB when you finish installation it prompts you to register, unfortunately right now I'm getting no response. Will try again later.

Cute colors on your browser Animal. Well I'll join anyway (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I'm already joining to UD a month ago. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Please explain "the law of infinite monkeys"
Thanks,

In original form, an infinite number of monkeys sitting at an infinite number of typewriters will recreate all of shakespeare's works.
Modified to suit our times, 1 Animal with an infinite amount of time making an infinite number of posts is bound to post a good idea.
(PS notice a couple of "nonamers" listed on the Aces High team. Don't worry bout that, mine was listed as no name for a bit, it'll update after a while)

only reason I let you in my Anti-Cancer gang is because I need your CPU.

OK we have 6 people, but 3 of them are showing with no names on the team list.
I have no idea who they are, but they can go HERE (https://members.ud.com/services/profile.htm) to change their profile and update their user name.
-
Thanks for the links Animal. Looks like a great idea. I've done the SETI search for a while, but never renewed it last re-install of my software.
There's an awful lot of computers out there that could speed up this search for a cure for cancer.
I joined the team..but my name hasn't shown up. Oh well, (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

BTW running that proggie doesn't affect your ability to download and watch uhmm.. "Art" so go ahead and give your PC something to chew (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
my connection at work sucks, but I'll try to DL and get it running here anyways. I'm not sure if it will work behind our proxy either, but once again, I'll try.
Regardless of the work situation, I'll get it on my "server" at home. All it does is run WinRoute anyways. I'll just leave the server on as much as possible then. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I lost my aunt to renal cancer. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) It's true that the disease touches everyone in some way, and it's good that we can help fight it in some small way.

If your name isn't showing, try messing with your member profile. Mine wasn't showing at first either, and I don't know what toggled it exactly, but I did mess around with the online profile listing.

It might just be an timed update or something. I'll mess around with the profile a bit more after lunch. I like that you can have multiple devices for your profile, I won't have to create another account for my home machines.
1 hr processing time, 32% done on the task. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Could be Nifty.
I have no idea what if anything I did to trigger the name display, just that it wasn't there, I goofed around for a bit, and it was there.
-
I have join good cause my grandperants died of cancer
-
Now I'm using PIII 933 with W2K to process those packets; +10 hours with higher priority without any other tasks and only 46% done (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
In WinME in same computer there's another packet waiting with +90% done (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Edit:
It's also good CPU-test: My CPU is 700Mhz oc'd to 933. It has run that proggie in both WinME and W2K about 20 hours now without any problems (CPU usage 100%) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Oh, and when I was almost finished with one unit, my computer crashed because I was messing with my video card overclock, and I lost all the work I had done so far (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Maik, The member services is down at the moment, which might be why you can't join the team right now.
Animal, I messed around with the profile earlier. I couldn't see anything that would make my name visible in the team list. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
-
I posted a message on their board, asking for help.
Please be patient, and keep the program running.
Thanks to all who joined!

Must be a timed thing, cuz everyone is showing up now!
Just completed the first task, and it started on the next. The Superoxide Dismutase diagram looks sweet!
Good find on this, Animal! Huge thanks for posting here on the board for all to see. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Is anyone else out there using this with Windows 2000? I've got it installed and it's been causing random complete lock-ups on my machine. This'll be the first program that's ever accomplished that.
I've been planning on formatting and re-doing my OSs, so hopefully that'll help it. Anyone else experiencing this with Win2k?

I'm in. Thanks for making me aware of this service. Two friends are currently undergoing treatment for cancers.

SOB, I've got it running on Win2K (my at work computer) and it runs just fine. I leave it on 24/7 and it ran completely fine over the weekend. I just cold boot the machine if it starts acting sluggish. The UD agent picks up right where it left off with no problems. It runs equally well on win98SE. I let it run continuously on my "server" at home (only snag was the mouse locked up once, but a cold boot fixed it, and UD merrily went about its business after.)

Staga or Animal, has any reports shown this is doing anything? Almost half of my mothers family (four people) have died to cancer in the last 3 years but I'm skepticle that this is doing anything at all.

If they only had an agent that ran on a real OS I could really get the ball rolling :)
Got some decent Unix machines not doing a damn thing.
-
Westy I don't know it this help but it's still better option than sit down and wait miracles happen :)
-
CC Staga. My post had honest curiosity and intentions. Even though it would sound like it had not. I did not mean it to appear as doubting the intentions or merit of the program. I hope it help. Sincerely.

Mom was just operated (breast cancer) and so far everything looks good :)
This topic deserves a punt.

thanks for bringing this up, I have to redownload it on my new PC.
guys the team is doing great, seems like its below the top 1,000 on every category and 299 members rank. Considering the ammount of people who use this program, we are doing a GREAT contribution.
As for those who doubt the program; have faith. It may work, or not. But because it MAY work, its worth all the effort.
AHtroll: 1,579 results! WOW!

Got it running now :) Too bad I didn't have it running years ago I may have had to just take a pill instead of potential major surgery :(
They have done a biopsy on my left kidney and found a slow growing cancer that is malignent :( Doc said I prolly had it for years. They did a biopsy on a lymph node and found no cancer :) Haven't got the result of the biopsy of the pancreaus yet. The doc is pretty sure it will be malignent though. I guess he can't wait to do his thing of slicing and dicing :)

Need some help.
D/L's the program from Animals link, installed it but it won't run. It can't find this file:
UDwin_3501_2618.dll
I am running W98 and d/l'd under that O/S category.
Did a "find" on the whole HD and it could not find this file.
Anyone got it or know where to get it?
BTW, D/L'd the program 2X in case the D/L was bad.
Thanks!
-
Am running Windoze 98SE and did a search for your missing file. I don't have it on my C drive at all and the program is running fine.
I also downloaded it from Animal's links.

Don't know, but it should. Just try downloading it, has a nice screen saver. I don't know what it is doing but is ncie to see. At least it is something to contribute to the fight against cancer and costs nothing, I like the price :)
Let us know if it works ok on Windoze XP.
Thanks :)
-
Ok ill download the ME version and if that doesnt work ill do the 2k version otherwise im srry man.
-
download the 2K version
REMEMBER: WinXP is a variation of Win2k and almost EVERYTHING that works for 2k will work for xp.
Programs written for 9x/Me may cause trouble in the NT kernel (Win2k/WinXP/WinNT)
