Fokker D.XXI
The exact example: ID# FR-76 with experimental recractable undergarriage.
-
Looks like a Fokker DXXI with modificated gear.
Wich was not retractable.

Damn finns
:)

This is the last VL built Fokker XXI, modified to incorporate retractable landing gear. It was 9 mph faster than the standard version, but suffered from reduced maneuverability and climb rate. It wasn't viewed as being a successful modification.

And than came kurt tank and stole the whole idea from the much more intelligent Fokker.

Yep, definitly a fokker D.XXI
Nice to see you've posted a dutch plane brady!

D.XXI, it is:)
Ty FRank, I have in the past but it has been a while:)

Much more succesful Finnish Fokker landing gear modification, skis instead of wheels. Thus modified, the XXI could take off from snow covered airfields or from frozen lakes.

Nice pic, TimRas. :)
I'd guess that it's from the Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo at Tikkakoski?
Yes, the ski mod was propably much more useful than the retractable gear modification. The Fokkers were mostly used during the Winter War (1939-40). The gear mod wasn't widely spread (nice pick, Brady), because the difference in performance was dubious at it's best. But the ski modification was more widely used, because during the Finnish winter our ground tends to get frozen and snowy :D. So the ski-mods were indeed handy during the winter operations.
