Clemen$ gets my vote.
Baseball turned WWF
-
I sure hope the NL champ destroys whichever of these lame teams makes it to the series.
-
I give Pedro a 8/10 on the head toss. What was that fossil thinking!
-
LOL....yet another reason why baseball sucks.
-
Pedro, gimme a ****ing break. He threw Zimmer around like a rag doll, and the guys like 900.
-
Zimmer shouldnt have run out there in the first place. He took a swing at Pedro, all Martinez did was defend.
How about the *******s in the yankees bullpen who started the fight with the employee? Early reports show that garcia kicked the guy in the mouth and stepped on his back.
Intense series. although i dont know if pedro was throwing at garcia, considering the circumstances (2 on, no one out in a jam?) nor was clemens. just a bad situation
-
Did you see what went on in the bullpen late in the game? Word from the Boston Police Dept is the man in the bullpen was a member of the grounds crew. He reportedly has cleat marks on his head and back and was the result of being assaulted by two members of the yankee bullpen. Word is they may press charges against the two yankee players.

Good it's not like GS doesn't have any money.
-
Weebles Wobble but they don't fall...errr, nope, that's wrong....he went down alright
What a weird game..these guys didn't want to play ball, they were ready to do battle. I was waiting for a 'Braveheart' face painted fellow to dive onto the field and launch the battle
Pedro vs Clemens...I dunno. They both have whacked an enormous amount of players, from the stats the announcers were shouting out.
-
I agree with Moose.
Zimmer never should have went out swinging in the first place.
Pesky would have wooped his butt anyways.
-
Moose come on please. Zimmer has a yearbook photo with him and Jesus Christ sitting at the lunch table. Besides which, even 900 year olds don't "take a swing" at someone with an open hand. Maybe he shouldn't have been out there, but he sure as **** wasn't gonna take a swing at Pedro.
Besides which, Clemens' pitch was just high, not high and BEHIND the ****ing batter. He just threw a ball, not a beanball.
-
Pedro was wrong, Zimmer was wrong.
Clemens pitch was no big deal, Manny was wrong.

Room on the bandwagon, Creamo?

Urchin, did you even watch the replay?
72 or not, he took a swing at Pedro and Pedro was the better man by just sidestepping him and putting him on the ground.
A guy's got a right to defend himself.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of who was right and wrong, lets not forget Garcia trying to break Todd Walker's legs at 2nd base.
It went both ways. Deal with it.
The problems began in the fourth when Martinez drilled Garcia in the back after the Yankees scored twice to take a 4-2 lead. Yankees manager Joe Torre said he had no doubt it was on purpose, and neither did many observers. Moments later, Garcia slid hard - real hard - into second base on a grounder to short, nearly pasting Todd Walker against the left-field wall. After that, everyone knew the eruption was only a question of time.
"It wasn't the take-out, it was the intent," Walker said. "No doubt about it, he was angry and was coming in to break my leg. If I got thrown at like he did, I might have done the same thing."
Order was restored, and it might have ended there, until Clemens fired a 2-1 fastball to Ramirez in the bottom half of the fourth. Ramirez immediately began walking toward the mound, shouting and pointing his bat at Clemens. Clemens shouted back. Both dugouts emptied. And then Zimmer, whose life was nearly ended by a beaning during his playing days, briefly forfeited all logic by charging across the field at Martinez.
Walker later called it a bull-rush, and maybe it sort-of was, remembering Zim is a rotund, old man. Pedro easily stepped aside and flung Zim to the ground. He landed head-first, and stayed there, dazed, as the Yankees gathered around him. Zimmer has been in baseball since Edison invented the light bulb, but this had to be a first.
"I was shocked," Martinez said afterward, while briefly answering questions on his way out of the clubhouse. "I never raised my hand against him. I saw him coming and just tried to dodge him. Hopefully, he's fine. I would never hit him."
Said Walker, "I have the utmost respect for Don Zimmer. We all do. But he put himself at risk by charging at Pedro. No one in this clubhouse blames Pedro for defending himself."
i must admit though, Jeter was a class act in his interview after the game.
-
When Pedro throws a ball that high and behind, it is intentional. He is one of the best control pitchers in the game.
He should have been ejected for that pitch, but what the umps missed was Pedro threatening Posada from the pitchers mound ... that definately was an ejectable offense.
Zimmers was probably so wound up over Pedro's pitch due to the fact that he has a steel plate in his head due to a bean-ball ... he almost died to that pitch.
Zimmers did take a left open hand swipe at Pedro and he did only react defensivly.
As far as the grounds-keeper ... He got what he deserved. He probably was running his mouth and should have know better.
-
Martinez - no contest. At least last night. He throw high and fast at the head of Garcia. Clemens fastball was high, and a HAIR inside. Manny is a moron, Zimmer is a moron.

Im not on any bandwagon, and I have no idea what your talking about.
-
Garcia is a moron, trying to make a big name for himself by acting all tough to Martinez. I'd much rather be hit by a pitch, take it in stride, and load the bases than act like a fool in retaliation. I also find in incredibly stupid how everyone hates Pedro for hitting 50 LESS batters than Clemens. Is it really a big deal, has anyone ever died from a pitch?
-
Actually Kevin14.... yes. Quite a few people have, in fact.
-
Christ, you people actually watch baseball?
I would just as soon watch paint dry.
-
"....although i dont know if pedro was throwing at garcia...".
Then you really are clueless.

so for once baseball was less boring than golf?
-
What i saw was Pedro DEFINATLEY threw at Garcia, i mean, how many Major League pitchers miss BEHIND THE BATTERS HEAD! Roger was not throwing at Ramirez. If you were watching closely, Posada asked for a splitter low and in, it just got away from Clemons and Ramirez overreacted.
The incident in the bullpen is a whole different story. I dont know what happened there but i did hear the announcers say that a Fenway Park employee (or former employee) was involved.
-
OK, first off, this is Apathy's baseball loving wife, he has no opinion, but I do.
The umpire gave both pitchers a warning, prior to the infamous 4th inning. When Pedro threw at Garcia's head, he should have been ejected from the game immediately. The fiasco that followed on and off for the rest of the game was a SYMPTOM of the bigger problem, that the umpires had lost control of the game and the respect of the players involved. I am an umpire, I have never given a warning and not followed through, it just isn't done.
Regarding the bullpen incident, the Yankee bullpen was out of line and should anticipate criminal charges. To be fair, why was the grounds grew employee in the Yankee pen, and cheering and jeering like he did? The Yankees are also due an apology from the Red Sox Organization, because behavior like that from an employee is not only inappropriate, it's unacceptable.

Here is the police report on what went on in the bullpen.

Lt. Kelly McCormick of Area B-3 forwarded witness information to Det. Dunn and P.O. Pankievich regarding their eyewitness account of the incident where they stated they observed member(s) of the NY Yankees baseball team initiate an unprovoked attack upon the victim.
"Yo, honest, offisah, dem guys jest jumped on'im fah no reason! Dose guys are jest crazy, ya know? He was sittin' dare watchin' da game and dem Yankees jest went nuts fo' no raisin! And mah fren heyah will say da same ding!"
"Yah! Dey jus' wen' nuts on da guy, offisah! He wa'nt doin' nutin!"
Yeah... right.
-
i'd like to know why the guy was in the pen as well, but cheering the sox after getting a big double play is hardly worth getting stomped on by a buncha guys who are all jacked.
garcia is a punk. whether or not martinez threw at his head, he spent the rest of the game trying to get even. jumping over the wall to get in the fight? cripes. In hockey, you jump over the boards onto the ice during a fight you're gone, whether you get into it or not. how about that 3rd man in?

hey yowser, why not put a sock in it? if you're only contribution to this is to just comein and take a shot at me, why not grace our presence with your opinion of the matter so i can tell you you're a ****ing idiot too.
-
lastly, whether or not martinez threw at garcias head, clemens' pitch wasn't in the same boat. manny overreacted, but then again, with tension so high it wasn't really surprising. i think he thought it was coming at his head so he ducked andnever realized it wasnt close.
and as much as it really doesnt apply to this situation, it's not like clemens hasn't done something like that before. so yeah, if martinez is an ass, then clemens is just as much of one. half of pitching (i speak from experience) is intimidation and in a playoff series between these two teams (easily the most storied of rivalries in all of sports) it plays a huge part. pedro prolly wanted to scare the yanks and it got outta hand. i don't think that the motions he made afterwards to the yankee dugout (pointing at his head) were appropriate, either.
i think that if pedro were to get the boot after that pitch, then garcia shoulda been gone after he railroaded todd walker, and clemens shoulda been gone after the high and mildly inside to rameriez. that woulda calmed the game down real quick and reminded the players what their focus shoulda been on.
oh, and zimmer shoulda been tossed regardless. i love hearing these statements about how pedro shoulda been arrested, when it seems pretty damn evident to just about everyone that zimmer was outta control. however, that being said, i thought it was real classy of him to apologize last night and i hope the sox do something in return. that might hafta come from pedro himself though, because no one else was singlehandedly responsible like those two were.

The eyewittness were COPS. Them boys ar F...ed. Assult and battery charges.
And yes the kid was cheering for the sox, and nelson walked up to him and pushed him and swung at him , told him to go cheer in the other bull pen. Then garcia Rt fielder, jumped the right field fence into the bull pen from off the field and kicked him in the head.

Now Moose, ya know I luv ya. You are as much of a die-hard BoSox fan as I am a die-hard Yankee fan but Pedro was wrong and acted like a lil' punk.
You wanna brush someone back..fine. Maybe even tap them with a ball BELOW the neck..fine. He aimed for Garcia's head because he was having a good ole hissy fit. And then by pointing to his head and taunting Posada, all he did was raise emotions another notch.
Now Clemens ball wasn't even close to Ramirez. It was high but over the plate. If anyone was wanting to make a name for themselves during that game (as someone said) was Ramirez. He was expecting Clemens to strike back and looked for anything to mouth off to. Manny was wrong.
As for Zimmer, he was wrong too. If you are in your 70's, you don't charge at someone in their 30's but what Pedro did was ridiculous. That wasn't defensive, that was stupid. I don't care what's going on, you don't throw a 70 year old man to the ground. You step away and try to get someone's attention about the incident.
It is difficult to feel any sympathy for Pedro since his actions started this snowball rolling.
As for the bullpen incident, Nelson and Garcia should be charged if it's proven they started the whole thing. If their emotions got the best of them and decided to take it out on a groundskeeper, they are no better than Pedro.
All in all, that game was disgusting on so many levels. Hopefully, the rain will do more than postpone yesterdays game, it will cool off some tempers. This is the playoffs for cryin' out loud. All that stuff did Saturday was take away from what was a well played game between 2 good teams.
My .02 cents.....

Reporters keep peppering team representatives about what an embarrassment Saturday was, using terms like "disappointment" and "black eye," but I don't know what the hell they're talking about. This isn't an embarrassment. This is a wonderful thing for baseball. This is going to drive ratings through the roof, and FOX knows it. That's why they keep hyping what happened in their promos. That replay of the Pedro Martinez-Don Zimmer affair is on TV more than "Law and Order'' reruns.
Ain't that the truth! :lol
With everyone desperate for more on Saturday's drama, commissioner Bud Selig lowered the cone of silence, telling each team's executives that they were not to answer questions about the incidents. Minutes after Torre revealed this directive, the entire Red Sox ownership group -- God bless 'em -- walked into the interview room and blatantly violated the gag order with a long news conference about many of the day's events.
When major-league officials got wind of this, the league's chief PR person rushed into the interview room and gestured for the Red Sox to shut up, leave the podium and explain themselves to him right now. And he did it in full view of the media.
And then Yankees president Randy Levine issued a press release, saying because the Red Sox talked the Yankees now wanted to issue a statement. And their statement was that they stood by their earlier comments and had nothing more to say.
Almost makes it worth the trouble to stick around for the post-game interviews! :rofl

ah, i was hopin yankee would come outta the woodworks for this mess :)
yeah, its hard to defend pedro's actions. i still think he did pretty much the best he could with zimmer considering the circumstances.
hopefully tonight will be peaceful, thats for sure
