Trying to build a puter. My first one and ol and behold, I am getting a but flustered. I guess this is normal for a first timer.
But, what is a ATA HD and wht is an IDE HD?

nothing.....

Not a single difference unless you mean Serial ATA (SATA). ATA hard drives connect with an IDE connection on the motherboard while SATA drives connect with the smaller connection and different cable than IDE.
Then you have much faster transfer rates in SATA than you do in IDE connection drives and in many cases faster transfer rates with SATA than in SCSI hard drives with less noise from what I have heard.

thnx that answers my question. Its not a SATA HD. Motherboard instruction manuals sure dont waste any words
