One of my hero since my aviation days:D
-
Happy Chuck Yeager day...
Oh, Diablo..
I think your quote is wrong...
IIRC..it was "Hey Ridley, got any Beamans?"
"Yeah, I might have me a stick".
For some reason I have a sick habit of memorizing worthless information. This is one of those bits I stored in my little cranium.
-
Yeah, it was off the top of my head kinda quote. But, seeing as you knew what I was talking about I guess you got the point!
-
One of my all time favorite movies!
-
We rented "The Right Stuff" this past week-end and now its my oldest sons 2nd favorite movie (right behind Memphis Bell) :)
-
I watched it enough times to have it memorised when I was in high school. Great movie and great soundtrack.
"Sir, over there, is that a man?"
"Yeah, you damn right it is!!"

Got to meet Ed Harris a few weeks ago working as an extra on the set for "Empire Falls". Really great guy, played Astronaut John Glenn.
Love watching that F-104 roar off the runway near the end.
-
For those of you that remember way back when, Beemans gum is now being manufactured again and is avaliable at the link below:

and a big to the man ranked at no. 11 in the top 100 most influential persons in the history of Aviation, Charles E. Yeager.

the fact that he ran out of runway the other day doesn't mean a damn thing!
he's still the best pilot there is!
-
He is NOT the best pilot...
You know who is the greatest pilot I ever saw?
Gordo Cooper...
hehe...
Love that line....

Yep, Chuck Yeager is quite the man, but he's a real a-hole in person. It's a shame because he has a huge following and has put off quite a few people. Only his reputation in aviation keeps him notable(IMHO).

Popularity tends to callous a person from the general public. I bet if you knew him as a close friend or family member he'd be quite the opposite.
Personally, as a role model for my kids, I'd rather have Chuck (or any of "his type") than ANY current day professional athlete.
-
What makes you say that, Stony?
You've met him?
I'm curious to know what he's like that would make you say that.

Yes, I've met him three times and I've seen his personality in person and it can be real ugly.

Agreed, but outright rudeness and disrespect shouldn't have to be tolerated.
I'm not going post in this forum exactly what he did, but if you see me in person Ripsnort, I'll tell you then.
I agree with you on the atheletes. I wouldn't want most of them as a role model either.
-
Why the secret, Stony? I don't think ol' chuck reads this board...
What happened?

I'll tell you what, get a hold of me next time you see me in the MA and I'll tell you then.

Sounds good, thanks.

Stony, Muck,
Being stationed here at Edwards AFB I can atest to this. Many people here have met him in person and say the exact same thing. Who knows maybe its old age maybe its just the popularity. I've never met him so I cant say anything personally. BUT, we do have our air show in two weeks and he's supposed to be there
to all of his accomplishments though

Whatever you do, dont tell Chuck Yeager that you play combat flight games on the computer. He will eat you away like acid just with the scowl alone. Ive seen it and fortunately it was the guy in front of me. When they scooped that other fella up off the floor and placed him into a small bucket I just walked past that mess up to the General, real straight and arrow like and said "Sir, would you kindly sign my book, Sir!
Alls well that goes well.....hehe
(FWIW I tend to agree with old Yeager on the game thing)
I can just imagine poor stony
