Now I know this is a game, but still that is a low thing to do. Now if they changed it so you could fire a pistol or a rifle back then of course I would be fine with it. But there is nothing worse than attacking someone who cannot defend themselves. Now when you have a tank or an Ostwind that has its turret knocked out, that different. But when you have someone who's floating to the ground in a parachute, What the hell is the Damn Point of killing them? Does it make you feel like a bigger man. There have been many times I have been killed in a Chute when the damned guy diverted from the real threat just to shoot me up. Thats what I don't understand. If they are on the ground after ten seconds, then of course I go after them. But thats the only condition.
-
Chutes blow up when you fire at them for a particular reason.
We like it.
(<---- Please look here for 10 minutes prior to fire AH up)
-
Reread what you just wrote. Then you'll understand why we do what we do.
-- Todd/Leviathn
-
well they should do ether two things
1 make it so you cant kill him
2 give him a 9mm
-
I reread it, When should I be understandin?
And yes, I think they should give him a pistol
-
shooting chutes is such a kick
dangling meatbombs on a stick
besides bailing is like saying, "i suck so bad i deserve to die twice."
-
I'd rather bail then get killed in the plane. Bakairo!
-
This subject has been brought up a billion times, but it can't be said enough. Chute shooters are the lowest, dishonorable scumbags this sim has to offer. They should ban anyone the instant they do it...we don't need those types here.
-
I love you Kommandant. Preach on good brother.
We'll get the last laugh when them chute killin sons of *****es are rotting in hell.
-
Now I don't think they should ban them, or even warn them. I just think they shouldn't do it. You know there is some Honor in flying, if a guy tells me not to shoot him anymore so he can RTB, then I break off, hell I will even ask my Team Mates not to fight him either. But there is a HUGE difference between that and whats been going on with CS'ers
-
What happens if the guy calls RTB, you let him go, and then comes back and kills your side's goon?
..
There's no chivalry in war. Or at least, even with a limited-simulated version of it.
Shooting chutes may be distasteful to some, but to the rest of us, we choose not to do it for the waste of ammo, rather than for any reason regarding sanctity towards this 'honor' thing.
This 'honor' thing shall persist only if it suits me. I will show 'honor' when I feel like it, and I expect that certainly will be the case of others, too.
I'd certainly not expect it to be mandatory. I'm not THAT naive. If I expect honor I'd be going and playing in one of those H2H rooms where people fly with wingtip smokes to signal landing, giving check-6 engagement calls. *Blech*
-
I'm just glad to see one thread that has no sarcasm in it for change... :rofl
-
HEHEHE LOL the fact that this is a game and people get all fired up about shooting chutes says a lot for the immersion factor.
I love shooting chutes - definitely arm them - but give them something that would shoot a plane down that would rule dodging chute bullets lolh.
-
As I understand it, the parachuting pilot actually explodes in a ball of fire if hit, so I'm kinda stuck on the immersion thing...
In RL I would expect the pilot's body to just go limp, rather than explode? I suppose it depends on what he had for lunch. Or maybe the gunfire would damage the parachute and the pilot would just plunge to his death.
-
It all depends of the kind of Ammo you're using, Oboe.
I expect some fun if I spray it with 30mm HE ammo :D
-
Chute shooting ranks below kill stealing in my book.

I'll have to buck the trend and disagree with these boring FDB squares - chute shooting is fun!

That gives them time to contemplate why they just didn't ride that flaming wreck into the ground.
-
:) I hate chute killers so I just don't open it until I'm as low as I can get. :p Sometimes I err and die anyway but to often. :D
-
Read it again, Kommandant. Read it several more times in its entirety. Then you will understand why we do what we do.

This thread goes hand-in-hand with un-perk the Ta152, don't hide the cv, 50 cals should kill tigers, and a girl scouts guide to cookie baking. Bail and you become the new target particularly if you bail before getting shot at.
Now we can move on.
-
Proper bailing is a skill.
The HALO jump, high-altitude, low-opening technique is vital to your success.
So, if you bail and fail to use HALO, many guys will thoughtfully pop your chute for you so that you can hurry back to the field, re-up and practice the technique again until you get it right.
The truly evil ones are like Slap. If you goof and open way to high, they'll let you drift down for what will seem like hour to you. That's just mean.
Of course, many players have different ideas about "low opening" technique.
Personally, if you wait to pop the chute until you get just about a one-count before you land softly, I think that's doing it right.
Above that height, I feel an obligation to help hustle you back to the tower so you can try again.
Great post though.
-
If some one get some bullet on me when I'm HALO they deserve a
for outstanding skill :)
-
The only reason I shoot at planes is in the hope that a chute will fall out... If you've never tried hitting a guy in freefall before he opens his shoot then your missing out. I just wish HT would add a scream. Maybe someone can find the sound file for the chute explosion and add a little girl screaming "NO, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO!"
-
Why bothering bailing, let alone open the chute, unless you're deliberately offering yourself up as a target once again. Why not simply lawn dart? Or if you have to bail just free fall and see how far you can plant yourself?
BTW. Anyone successfully killed a dweeb hanging in a chute using rockets? Since AH doesn't model damage ala prop tips, using guns is too easy, can't shred the silk with the wingtip nor can I use my prop wash to collapse the canopy as a result I've begun tothink about using the old 5" tubes to nail a chutists mellon.
-
I fully endorse chute shooting...
Think of the alternative! All that couped up frustration has to go somewhere.
-
furballers shoot other furballers chute because they know the faster they die the faster there back in the furball...and by not shooting the chute that ruins the furball and it makes them lower than a strat weenie in there books
;)
-
While I truly enjoy a good chute whine as much as the next FDB, I have to wonder if the limit for chute whine threads on the BBs has been exceeded for the month of October.
-
A Question.....
Which is a bigger waste of time.....
Shooting Chutes or Bailing out?
Ride the wreck down and its a moot point.
-
Truly profound
:p
-
All the valid reasons to shoot chutes:
- The red icon is distracting when in periferal vision. It also apears on radar above 500'.
- Guy hanging in chute can "check six" his buddies
- Guy hanging in chute opened too early and, as Toad pointed out, wants help getting back into action sooner.
- Doppler sound effects in AH are too good not to treat guy in chute to them by zooming in full trottle and guns blazing. You can only hope he has Mitzu's sounds.
- Chutes explode. Explosions are cool.
- Whining about chute shooting never gets old.
-
Valid reasons NOT to shoot chutes:
1: Conserving ammo or winchester.
2: Busy with other enemy planes in the area.
3: The guy is dangling at 15k or higher.
Chivalry? Not on my list. :D
p.s. The missing reason to shoot chutes is to pork the other player's survival score mod. ;)
-
If the guy pisses me off ------ attempts a HO or runs forever and I somehow finally take him out, then it somehow gives me great pleasure to shoot him twice i.e. once in the plane and once in his chute on the way down......:D :D

Maybe I am wrong, but it has been my understanding that if you bail, you get an entry in your score as a "bail" and if you fail to bail out properly (or run afoul a bullet) you get an entry in your score as a "death"
A "bail" you retain some percentage of your perks (I think it was 1/2 I don't remeber)
A "death" you lose all perks for that ride
I have even go so far as to let some guys ditch if they were an especially fun opponent, but mostly I prefer to hand out "deaths" - especially in some circumstances outlined above.
If you are gonna hang around in a chute around me you better deserve it. I expect no more or less in return.
Good example: I once chased a pony that had porked fuel at a base. 2 sectors he went out to sea on the deck with me pursuing in a p47 - once he thought he was far enough out to avoid proxy kill he decided to bail. I shot his chute and he immediately whined about it "who was the chute shooter" on channel 1. I said nothing and rtb'd with the feeling that chase was probably more worthwhile than others that day.
-
Enable killshooter for chutes above 1k.

Guess no one told you. That isn't a Mae West hanging on your chest when you bail. It's a big bag full of high explosive. Hence, the pretty colors when it is shot :).
Chute Shooting is the Sport of Kings!!! 'Nuff said :).

Works great. Once you start killing chutes with rockets, you'll never go back to bullets.
...I mean...that's what somebody told me.

Ten chutes shot by Sam the chute shooter.
Personally...
I'm horrified that one would actually shoot a pilot in a chute.
I couldn't do it and live with myself..
It's morally pathetic.
I'd prolly bust into tears if I shot one, and have that sick feeling in my stomach for days..
Then depression would set in, I'd stop eating and spend all my time in bed crying..
Personal hygene would go..
Health would deteriorate..
And I'd probably end up sucking on a gun barrel..
So my solution is to try to pop them before they pull the cord..
Much more rewarding..

well then give .25 perk point for killing chutes then no one will complain about it..
yes we have to shoot them . they are spies sitting at fields giving out info .
they make pretty fireballs when they blow up ..
i think they dont get credit for a safe bail too.
get them before the chute oepns , harder target
I like to see the whines posted

Now i would list the reasons you would not want to

You sound like Smeagol eating fish.

chute shooting whiners should be banned

As I said a billion times before. If all you "he shot my chute, so Im coming to the bbs and steam about it types." Used that aggresion while you were flying, then you wouldnt be in the chute and being shot while in it.

my thoughts on those people from WW2 germany and Japan
all germans and japs. (military) deserved to get toasted. they were nothing but a bunch of murderers and racist people, so as in real life they should be shot . dont be fooled the germans killed many pilots dont believe they would not shoot a gi down while ina chute. you talking chivraly . guess gasing millions of women and kids and shooting every one was ok. but they had honor they didnt shoot a chute.(which is bull)so in real life i hope chutes were torn to threads and we did wipe out chutes..
How about them in the pacific and atlantic when sinking ships had people floating the orders were to shoot them all and take no prisoners from subs and surface ships where was the honor there
well since i am ex war military guess i have a different view on real life enemies like jpn ger (ww2).
but in here it is only the fun of watching full grown men crying.. you shot my chute waaaah waaah...lol might be the same guys that cry when you shoot them down and in channel 1 they say they were at fault and you were lucky.. smoking planes with engines off are perk points..lol too easier than shooting chutes
now in here this is a game and dont matter cause no one gets hurt.... well except those who feel bad things will come to them if we shoot thier chute. i think it is thier pride .. and they should post like a real life adult why it bothers them .. well the kids dont count cause they havn't lived thru anything but mom punishing them after school/or taking thier nighty night snack away

I've been able to knock down up to three planes with my hull gun after getting my turret knocked out; it just takes practice.

getting shot baaaaaad.... shooting chute GOOOOOOOOD
-
Killing a chute in AH is tantamount to murder.
-
i was in a shore battery, watching over a town saw a chute landing near town hiding. was really hard hitting him from the SB but they explode just as well in shore batteries also, but still have to try rocketry in a to c combat (Air to chute ) maybe the rockets should be perked..lol

Off topic a bit sort of but...
BTW do bombs work on paratroops? I dropped 4 x 500 on an m3 letting troops out blew it up but all the troops lived? (surely looked like I hit them all but not even 1 died)

Don't bother ... we don't really need to see it and nor do we need to know the name of the person that you are having a personal conflict with.

Anyone who knows ACM knows that you always hit chutes from their 6 o'clock. Don't let the chute sucker you into a HO! Their fabulous maneuverability and low speed handling make it hard to avoid the HO when fighting a chute.

As far as the freakin Chute Shooter issue goes, I just don't care anymore. I won't do it, and it pisses me off when it happens, but I just don't freakin care.

I know what Ah2 needs now better pilot death animation :D Imagine splattering blood on your windshield or the same splashes coming out of the limp chute wearer as he rides down in to a limp sack of meat and blood unto the ground with his lousy 9mm pistol at his side..... mmmmm  :rofl :aok :D

I was looking kill states for planes in general.. chutes have 1858 kills to thier credit.. so they are dangerous gliders that have hidden arms and must be stopped ..lol
stats (http://www.innomi.com/ahkillstats/totalstats.php) stat link............. the c47 only has 318 kills to its credit

I hit him with the bb guns at first`cause it ain't no fun popping him like a blood-filled baggie. He kicked around for a couple of seconds like a marionette being operated by an epileptic puppetmaster then went limp ... then I touched the cannons and he dissipated in a cloud of red, little pieces of meat with cloth attached falling, boots tumbling with the feet-meat still in them, his head looking like a bowling ball in a canvas bag streaming blood and his chute, now with no load on it, floating away with the wind.
I smiled at the beautiful sight and knew deep-down that he was already thanking me.
