Whoever that Cub's fan was in the stands that interfered is going to get beat tomorrow at school/work.
Looks like the curse may remain... :(
-
Yeah...I click on the game after watching the X-plane JSF competition on Nova and its 3-0 Cubs in the 8th. What a colossal turn around. Game 7 should be killer tomorrow. Way to go Cubfan.
-
Mark my words:
"The Cubs will get spanked tomorrow. The Red Sox will force a game seven and blow a small lead late in the game. This will be an amusing anecdote told years from now."
As soon as that fan touched the ball, I sat up and said to myself that this was the 'collapse'.
-
With the world in turmoil, we as a nation look to baseball for stability.
The Cubs must lose in the playoffs.
The Red Sox must lose in the World Series.
These things must pass.
-
And once again I give thanks to God that I wasn't born near enough to either Chicago or Boston to end up a fan of either team.
-
...and you should give thanks to God that you don't have to live near enough to either of those cities to have to endure those fans.
Before coming out this way I was indifferent to the Cubs. Now I loathe them.
White Sox fans, on the other hand, I can understand.
-
We Chi-Sox fans are a poor lot. But hey, at least we took both series with the Cubs this year.
:lol
-
I enjoyed watching the guy wipe beer off his face :)
-
Definately fan interference, I can't believe they said otherwise. He is obviously reaching over the rail.

At 3-0, I retired into the reading room with my sons figuring it was all but over..so enlighten me, if that fan does not interfere, and the player catches the ball, the Cubs would most likely have won?
-
While the play would have only been the 2nd out of the inning, I think it gave FL another chance.

It also gave the Marlins a psychological boost, and rattled the Cubs.

I agree. It completely disrupted the flow of the game. It would've been the 2nd out, instead of a base hit to score the runner at third. It completely changed the situation faced by the Cubs pitcher. In fact, it was shortly after that fan interfered that the Cubs shortstop bobbled the grounder to him and got another man on base.
It reminded me of an Arena football game I was watching. It was a pass play along the sidelines and a fan in the front row reached out to intercept the pass. Not only did he miss the ball, but he got a helmet to the face that broke his nose. The blood came gushing out of his face and he had to leave the game.

I don't even like baseball but I think that was great :)
why, if blantant interference, didn't the ump call the batter out?
he has that option from what I understand...
-
The ump is quoted as saying that the fan didn't reach over the railing into the field of play. Which I think is clearly false by the pics.
-
The ump said it was out of bounds....but Im in awe a Cubs fan would *interfere* with a Cubs player to make an out.
The kid got escorted out by security, according to the announcers.
They were trying hard not to blame the kid for doing what any fan would do....but he completely deflated the Cubs moral. That could've been a 2nd out and things *may* have ended differently.
Be just as mad at the shortstop who cant catch. It was painful to watch, in one inning, seeing the fan do what he did, the pitching fail, and the error by the shortstop.
It'll be interesting to see how they do tonight.
As for Boston...I'm a red sox fan, but I truly think NY is a better team and will win it.
-
lol Dune. Too true :)
"As soon as that fan touched the ball, I sat up and said to myself that this was the 'collapse'."
Yup. You know it. The "fall" always comes along with a particular moment to lock it into people's minds. The Red Sox have yet to have thiers in the playoffs but they have one more game to do it in before they are knocked out and the Yankees go on to play the Marlins in the World Series.
But that fans interference will be talked about for decades and that his name will be a cursed. Like Bucky Dent, with his home run in 78, or Bill Buckner, bobbled ball in 86, are for the Red Sox fans.
I'll bet that Cubs "fan" will move, grow a beard and switch to contact lenses. Might even commit suicide for no one who is a Cubs fan will forget his face and he wil be ragged on till his dying day
