Doesn't the bombsight in AH look kinda on the unrealistic side? Anyone think it would be a good idea if HTC turned it into the norden on WB, when u have to punch in airspeed, altitude, and heading?
-
Last I played WB, you did not have to punch anything. That was done for you automatically.
You just had to wait a bit for the sight to settle after any course/attitude/speed shange because the Norden used mechanical computer.
Experts could still do wonders, but for mere mortal, if you were not on precise heading 20 miles before the drop point, you missed your drop.
Since we currently have a point-bombing model vs area bombing (lower blast effects and smaller number of bombers), the simplified sught is the only way to attract bombers withouh having them spend weeks practicing.

even though it might end uber buffs w/o changing guns? I'd prefer historical accuracy.

A real Norden would be great. Neither WB nor AH have anything close to the real deal. B-17 II is the only game which has one that is modelled after the original.

Unless you went 45% past your heading then came back.. you could have to crosshairs calibrated in 10 seconds.
That's the one thing I didn't like about WB's norden setup.. it could be gamed too easily. I'd like to see the delay.. but not the correction method.

I stopped flying Buffs because it is not fun for me. No skills involved, just get the highest possible and jink your way in. The only fun in Buff flying is the flying ack part. Except, of course, Ju88.
I would love seeing some change into the bombsight. Some steps in this direction would make Buff lives more entertaining, and would somewhat justify the strength of buff guns. Maps would have a whole new meaning, and navigation would mean something.
Anyway, the point has been touched time after time after time, so I assume no changes in this particular area.
Cheers,

This I agree in, in AH it is way to easy to bomb , no skill whatsoever is required.
Back in WB I used months to learn to hit anything with the bombsight, but when I did it was way more rewarding.

As I recall, bombing in WB was just as easy AH except for the fact that I had to wait forever for it steady up on the target. Bombing runs were very long and drawn out. You didn't see any bombers circling over the field unloading the bays like AH.
Other than the instant Norden of AH, what's the difference?

Sandman,
Instant Norden makes for all differencies:
- Inst-o-matic lining makes navigation irrelevant. You just take off and go to a target near you. Lining with a target? wow, what a concept! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
- Buffs can perform hard turns after IP without losing their bomb solution. Pack that with the .50's power, and you have an imperial destroyer. Sum that to 30k altitude and you have a death star. Nothing (xcept for a Ta) can touch that. After killing the fighter, the buff can merrylly resume its bombing, precission of Norden unaltered by wild turns.
- Jinking ability + "Norden" accuracy makes possible some ludicrous buff patterns.
- After a pass, the next one requires only 30 seconds to 1 minute extension....bank 50 to 80 degrees, pull, 180 degrees turn....back in IP (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
These that I can quickly think of.
I think, as the best of two hells, we had either the .50's toned down, or the Norden "tuned up". I rather like the second solution, since would make Buff work far more interesting, but this horse is almost as dead as the Radar one. If HTC wanted feedback, a quick BBS search would do.
