I'd read in a magazine several years ago that they'd recovered pieces of an aircraft on some island in the Pacific, including a navigator's table consistent with the type installed in Amelia Earhardt's Lockheed.

I will be interested to see if there is any truth in this...
Amelias family actually camps with us at Oshkosh.   We met a few years ago when the EAA was doing a special tribute.  They happened to Camp next to us and we got to know each other.  Now they are regulars and part of our camping circle.
When I get home Ill shoot off an Email to them and see if they have heard anything.

It would seem the search will never end.  I have spent the last 4 hours or so reading through these websites.  There is so much about this last flight that is shrouded in mystery, you can sit here for days going through the information.  A totally fascinating mystery.
TIGHAR's website (http://www.tighar.org/Projects/Earhart/AEdescr.html)
Nauticos, claim to have 90% assurance they have found the plane. (http://www.raisingameliacorporation.com/about_RAC.html)
Be warned.  You can lose a lot of time reading all of the information.  Luckily for me, I am off today!
