ati 9700pro
win xp
dx 9.0b
1024*780, 85hz 32-bit color (unlimited fps set in ah2 video)

Shane, try the Catalyst 3.7 drivers.  As a matter of fact, anyone with an ATI card should try the Catalyst 3.7 drivers.

The last 4 numbers of the driver version for the Cat 3.7 drivers is 6378.

With all graphics settings maxed out, I'm getting a minimum of about 20fps.  This is with 2 or more drones in view and lots of ground details visible. When looking up, I get 85 fps, which is limited by my monitor refresh rate.  Scissoring around the drones and shooting them, the frame rate is usually around 25-35.

Like I said, this is with all the AH2 graphics settings maxed out, horizon fog distance at the maximum 17 miles (default is 10 miles), using 1600x1200x32bit, 2xFSAA.  Lowering the horizon fog distance naturally improves the results.

I have a P4-2.53GHz, Radeon 9700 Pro (Omega Catalyst 3.6 drivers), 1GB DDR.

Skuzzy I'm averaging from 10-30fps when my graphics set at 1024x768-32bit.

I haven't tried 16 bit yet but I will.  I'm sure that will make it flyable.

Great terrain guys!!

Pent 4 2.4

Geforce 2 GTX 64mb
Soundblaster PCI 512 sound card
Not sure on the MB, but I know it's not a via chipset.

I'll post again after I upgrade my vid and sound card.

Title: cat 3.7 followup
Post by: Shane on October 15, 2003, 05:15:48 PM
update after installng the cat 3.7 drivers (and control panel).

note: scroll wheeling with mouse on the bbs created a smeared display (which only corrected itself by minimizing and restoring window) while having ah2 running in background. (uninstalled cat's, reinstalled, plm solved.)

also alt-tabbing is no longer a 1 shot deal, have to do it 2-3 times before it decides to cooperate. was fine before latest cat/cp drivers; inflight was very difficult to alt-tab out, had to do it about 10 times. (uninstalled cat's, reinstalled - plm solved)

(vsync is enabled)
(palletized texures disabled).

tower w/clipboard: 46.
tower w/o clipboard: 62
hangar w/clip: 34
hangar w/o clip: 42
runway (p-51) w/clip 29
runway w/o clip :35
inflight, away from base w/clip:44-47 (cycles)
inflight, away from base w/o clip: 57-65  (cycles)

plane icons have black box around data.
more to follow in a bit

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Radeon Pro 128MB Video - 4x AGP
L7Vmm Motherboard
512 MB Ram

Using Cat 3.8

Frame Rate 16 on runway, improves to around 25 on flight. Drops to 16-20 in dive.

Choppy video - propeller and tracer effects only visible sometimes

I normally average 50fps in MA online with highs of 85 fps at times

Installed Cat 3.8.....Framerate little better - get to around 45 in level flight....start blazing away guns at nothing...tracers drop  to 12. Also have black boxes around text and some sprites also have boxes around them(fw190 nose guns). Lots of smaller graphics issue and a few flight model issues (109 dropping left wing hard on auto pilot / gear down /up, or is that tremendous amount of torque? Never flown a 109...lol)Few other small things, but no CTDs with anything so far. Will wait on those issues.

Complete DXDIAG results:
DXDIAG (http://www.dangreve.com/dxdiag.htm)

Also gonna keep these to core problems as per Skuzzys request...

Looks like most of you folks have touched on same problems.

At a large base:  30fps in tower,  35fps on runway,  drops to 20 when shooting 100yrds from P51

Away from the base and 3k agl rates bounce around from the 30's up to monitor refresh of 75, when looking down at the trees rates take a hit back down to the high 30's

- In the sky (not near the ground detail) => 35 to 72 fps.
-On the deck => averages 30fps with some stutter
- High speed airfield pass (1 rwy) => 18 fps.

I had max res with 32 bit textures and unlimited fr set.

I gotta say that I love the new base layouts and eye candy.  The bases look great.  :)

The frame rates took a bigger hit than I was expecting, though.

I ran AH2 at 1024x768 in 32-bit.  FR's from 15 to ~55 at low level flight.  FR of 75 when I look straight up.  (In comparison, I'm usually getting 75fps in AH-classic.)

When I run the beta at 1024x768, I get ~25 fps in the cockpit and flying, but if I bump the resolution up to 1600x1200, I get around 35 to 40 fps!

Sounds crazy, but I guess I won't complain...  :D

Specs:
Windows XP

Geforce 2 Ultra 64

oh, and I'm getting all of the graphics issues others are, like screwy bullet trails and kick up, missing prop, 2 rear wheels on the 190 (!), etc...

In the tower  between 25 to 30 depending on view

In P51 on take off 19 to 25 depending on lateral view settling to 37/40 when looking up.

Also the clipboard map flickers as a I scroll it . It gives the effect of  high luminesence such that in certain positions the back ground terrain graphic is brilliant white.

I have only this last few days upgraded my system so there may be some driver issues hanging around however

Ok tested.

2250 MHz AMD XP (compares about xp 2800)
ti4200 64meg
1 GB ram
Epox 8rda+
All newest drivers, DX9

1280x1024 , FR 3 or lower!!!
1024x768 about 15 to 30

AA set to x2 , no other filters.

FB runs with all on , same resolution, flawlessly and looks nicer also.

This code needs to be optimized about 20x or more, otherwise we all have to buy ATI 9800 or something like that.

System (For more specific see attachment)

PIII-800@822MHz
WinXP
Asus Geforce4 Ti4400, 128MB
SB Live!
DX9.0

Using 1600x1200x32, with all enabled in AH. No FSAA or AF.

FPS

Default Tower + Clipboard = 21 FPS
Default Tower - Clipboard = 24 FPS
109G10 NE Runway = 13 FPS
Low flying over base, looking towards town = 10 FPS
Low flying over flat land with forrest & farms = 20 FPS
Low flying over sea = 48 FPS
Low flying over sea, with cont. tracers (x3) = 14 FPS

Comments

I'm aware of the huge bottleneck my CPU creates.
Turning the various graphic options off in AH didn't give much improvent to framerate, neither did using a lower resolution or colordepth.
There is a noticable slowdown whenever the horizon is in view (over land). When it's not (looking partially downwards), there is a big increase in FR.
If any building complex gets just barely visible far far out, framerate drops alot. Maybe lessen detail until getting closer?
Tracers eat tremendous ammount of FPS.
I'm getting minor stutters every couple of seconds when flying. When new trees/buildings are popping up, maybe?

tried all the settings and drivers for ati 3.7 3.8 and omega drivers for ati still avg 20 - 25 in twr...14 on runway. in flight above grnd about 25 avg+ - 2..... Straffing grnd targets about 8-13fps.... 500m away to 200m from plane down to 0 for about 2 secs then well pass target from there . thats about it for FPs run double in ah1 there i avg about 40-45fps norm.... think that is more my problem the low fps . and some of the gliches in video. think it will be a great game as it is now.. .
