i use an old joystick - i plug it into the analog pedals and then i plug that into get a usb adapter from radio shack, AH will conveniently see it - it's worked for me for years - then you can assign the rudder to the z axis through the setup menu - it works!

If you're using win 98, or ME Go HERE ->
The Stick Works (http://home.att.net/~stickworks/)
and scroll down the page till you find refrence to the Saitek X-36 pedal driver ("x36pedals.zip" I think), and download it.
Steve Church designed this driver to allow X-36 USB stick owners to use Analog [Gameport] pedals in sims that support 2 sticks.
I myself used the newer "Ronly.zip" drivers to wear out two X-36's, and later on an X-45 using the same Thrusty RCS analog peds, and never had a problem. (Under w/ win98, and ME).
Among it's positve aspects are:
*it's SMALL
*it's transparent (never knew it was running)
*it WORKS (no need to connect a "ghost" JS, etc.)
*it's freeware
**And best of all; Steve Church is not just a great programmer, But a great guy, who will cheerfully help if possible. [Just E-mail ]

Hope this helps;

I have a Saitek X35/36 and CH pedals.
The pedals and an old joystick plug directly into
my gameport. X35/36 into the USB port of course.
In Winbloze ( I have XP Pro ) Control Panel/Game Controllers
select "ADD"...I then check the "Enable rudders and pedals" box,
select "Custom"/"2-axis, 4-Button" name it and calibrate.
In AH I assign the "Rudder" to the pedals and forget about
the rest of the stuff on the old stick.
Works just fine without any additional adaptors or rewiring.
