Title: Anyone having experience in CASE tool ?
Post by: straffo on October 16, 2003, 09:11:14 AM
I'll have to start a HUGE project involving a 10 + team and  I'm pretty lost concerning CASE tools having not used one since ... well 5 year

I was thinking of a Rational product (now owned by IBM surprise surprise) ... but I've not a clear view of the competition ...

Rational makes a pretty good product line. I'm currently co-leading a project where we're developing (tayloring) one of their products to our requirements (but I'm not at ease posting this type of info on the net so thats all I can say)

Straffo, get me email?  Wasn't much of an analysis, but I'm only comparing it to what we currently use, and I don't do any coding so I can't comment on that aspect of it.

Duedel I'll  evaluate "Together" next week and Rational Rose.

Having used Together & Rational I prefer Together but it is stupidly expensive (where as Rational is just ridiculously expensive).

However if you want 80% of the functionality for 5% of the price I would recommend Enterpise Architect
from Sparx Systems (see http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/ea.htm).

You can download a fully functional evaluation version for free wiothout any of the sales hassle Together and Rational will put you through and the current price for a license is .
It exports and imports XMI model files so you always export your work into Ration or Together at a later date.

The developer is very approachable and involved with the product (as oppsed to trying to sell you consulting time like Together and Rational).

Cost is ~180 USD for 1 license, droping to around ~140 if you purchase in bulk.
