Title: new puter system.
Post by: svalan on October 17, 2003, 09:14:48 AM
I tried to play AH2 Beta but with my old system  800 Celeron it's not possible .
Now my Question i need an new puter i saw this one in an store and its an AMD Athlon XP 2700 with 256 MB DDR-Ram , and with an Nvidia 128 MB FX 5600 video card .

Can i play with this system AH2 easy without problems ??????

Or if you can say what system i can buy best please tell money no problem for me  , just want to play AH2 when it comes out .

Thanx     svalan .  the Flying Dutchman

#1 Dont buy a store bought computer i.e. gateway, dell,HP,compaq etc your setting yourself up for disaster and have limited your future upgrades from the get go.  If you have the know how build one yourself if not visit http://www.monarchcomputers.com or http://www.alienware.com that will custom build one for you

#2 Avoid GF FX cards like the plauge, you can get a Radeon 9600 Pro for $150 that will far outperform it.  Prices should go down for the Holiday season as ATI is releasing new XT cards

#3 256MB of memory simply IS NOT ENOUGH, you need 512MB as a minimum

Alienware is SUPER overpriced.. Best to find what you want there, and buy it elsewhere.

If indeed money is not a problem, then of course you don't want to bother with the aggravation of building.

Alienware very good
Falcon very good

Also very expensive but yeah will work very very well.

if you want a really good comp for the price, you could spend alota money at alienware, or just go to site like xoxide (http://www.xoxide.com)  or Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com)  and order your own stuff, you can build a really good core system/one that looks really good also, if you dont know how to put it all togeather im sure you could just go down to your local computer store type place and have them help you out, itll save lots of money for the same end result if not a better end result:D

I built almost the same combo ... its running pretty good at 2.0 ghz, 333 fbs   ... but it seams to sort of hard drive drag /hang  ..
And i had problems with the onboard sound/drivers at first .. but ive got the sound all figured out now .. (the dweeb behind the KB missed one of the drivers)

I put a used 40 gig in it instead of shelling out $$ for a sata raid set of hd's

other then that im happy with how it runs..

try micropro, they built my pc. and very good prices. i hooked up a squady with them he was most happy. find out what you want (online) then call it in on the 800# to save extra $$$$$$ but you have to call them and talk to a real person.:aok

One of the best places to custom order a computer.  You specify what YOU want in it and they build it and test it for you.  Yes you are paying more than doing it yourself but if you have never built a computer yourself its worth the $$$ to have them do it for you.

These guys do same type thing,  Thumbs up

I chose all the components, they put it together and dialed it in for me, for not much more $ then building it myself woulda been,

who ever says build your own is right.  for 800 bucks you can have a intel 2.xx cpu great mobo 1 g mem and ti4200 plenty of puter to run ah2, actually you can build it for 600 with a 40 dollar case.

Well most of you seem to have missed the obvious (his location)
Then go suggesting local to you system builders !

Oh and mrblack you must be 1 lucky sob to get a cpu capable of that speed.
What M/B and memory you running at that FSB ?

Currently my 2.4 fails Prime 95 at 3.1 G is happy at 3.0 G and fails loading windows at 3.2G.

Abit IC7MAX3
Mushkin pc3500 2x256
I can only do it because of my prometiea phase change cooling system.
CPU temp is kept at -30c
The cpu has more left in it but there is no memory that can run fast enough LOL.

Whats the best program for overclocking the AMDs? I don't want to overdo it - but maybe get a few more HorsePower out of it

You should be able to do it in you're BIOS.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional
System Model: A7N8X2.0
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+
Memory: 512MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b
nVidia GeForce4 MX400 AGP4x 64mb DDR
1024x768@60Hz

this combo OC's in the bios  and with extra 400 ddr installed.

the AMD forum has alot of great info about ocing this combo go to the asus mainboard thread...

mines running at 2.0 mhz at the moment because i only have one stick of ddr 400  in it at this time...

the guys are putting 2600+ bartons (unlocked cores) in this board and seeing speeds of over 3 ghz

thats what ive got in my soyo board to get it over 3 ghz..
I caution you to watch the cpu temp closely though.
Even though they say 80-85 deg cel is max at the amd site .. i still dont like seeing a cpu run much past 50 deg cel.  mine runs at room temp and a little below 30deg cel avg . (water cooled )
