like to have gone to Berkley, but didn't have the sat scores to get in, well maybe thats not the problem.

its not about the "Education" MT its the fact that they RACIALLY DISCRIMINATE by allowing lower qualified applicants entrance based on the COLOR OF THERE SKIN and not my there TEST RESULTS.
That children is called "RACISM" and "DISCRIMINATION"

No surprise here. Why is the chancellor upset about the revelation? Not like everyone doesn't already know it, or at least suspect it.

On an interesting side note, I just started school at George Washington this fall, after having received a BA from the University of California at Riverside. I can't believe how many crackers there are in my class here :eek:

So before Carl Limbacher breaks out the race card, aren't we at least allowed to see a breakdown of what races are in the 400 students admitted? Or for that matter the race breakdown of the 3200 intelligent students?
Moores wrote a confidential report to fellow board members revealing that Berkeley (aka Berserkley) last year let in nearly 400 students with SAT scores of only 600 to 1,000, far below the 1,337 average for the class.
Meanwhile, Berserkley refused entry to about 3,200 intelligent students with SAT scores above 1400, including more than 600 students with scores above 1500 out of the maximum 1600. Their crime, of course, is having the wrong color of skin (i.e., white or yellow or that politically incorrect shade of South Asian brown).

5421 new students 400 below 600 applicants = 7.37% of all total new studnts. It didnt break down the stats by test scores though

Whats sad about this article...and i'm sorry bout not knowing the names cause I dont feel like looking back on it.....is this guy who wrote this letter is being demonized for pointing all this out. I agree this problem isnt just califronia, but I think its worth pointing out that this is happening all over the nation and is in fact WRONG.

I applied to berkeley in 1995 with a 1410 SAT score and got denied. An African-american friend of mine from my high school class also applied with a 1070 SAT score and was admitted. Berserkeley is exactly how we describe it. I think this sort of thing needs to be taken into account by employers of Berkeley grads. The over-blown reputation of the school needs to be re-examined.

If I'm from south africa but have white skin can I check the african-american spot on the application? Do you have to back up your race? Would I have to prove i'm actually an "Eskimo"? I think people need to find better "leagle" ways to cheat the system.

Damn, it's too bad you didn't try two years later. If you are/were a California resident, there is a fool proof way to get into Berkley, if that's your thing. Even if you're whiter than the french battle flag (just kidding France, I love you baby).
The California Community College system introduced an honors program that garunteed acceptance to any of the UCs upon completion. It wasn't particularly hard (no harder than getting A's at a UC in my experience) and it was a hell of a lot cheaper to boot.
At the end of the day those who want it, can get it. Sometimes you just have to find another road. And if you stop and complain about how unfair the system is, it will pass you by, fair or not.
Just out of curiosity, how many people in this thread besides Blackbal and I applied to a UC school since the Affirmative Action ban in 1997?

SOmeday you will realize that californistan is not the place to be. They have made it so the harder you work, the harder they make it to make a living. If all you want to do is sit around and collect welfare and food stamps and have 13 million kids, life is good. This state has so much potential it just makes me sick to se how it has turned out and where it is going. 8 days and I am soooo gone. Just got another offer for a full time job in Montana, going to go play the court and see which one offeres me the best deal. Even if the Montana thing doesn't work, I am never comming back to this state.

And why not midnight? from their own admittance race is a basis for their policys. Just like affirmative action is based on race...The action clearly decides issues on skin colour alone...

"Affirmative action" is racism in its purest form, plane and simple. Giving someone preferance because of race is just wrong. I am a minority in california, why can't I get special treatment?

I think the crux of the problem is fans of programs like the one Berkeley seems to be using and affirmative action in general will point out that it is unreasonable to expect a rich white kid and a poor black kid (to generalize) to get the same fundamental education and that a lower SAT score is not an indication of anything other than less opportunity for academic growth in K - 12 education. And that they should not be excluded from higher education because of essentially where they were born.
Naturally anyone who did get a decent education prior to college loathes the idea that someone who is less qualified in their minds getting something instead of them when they've worked hard towards that goal for years and years.
and there is no easy answer.
