What will happen to this liberial,, I bet nothing.
Totenberg on Gen. Boykin: “I Hope He’s
Not Long for This World”
Eight years after NPR’s Nina Totenberg, on Inside Washington, wished death upon Senator Jesse Helms (“If there is retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it"), on the same show over the weekend she seemingly desired to hasten the death of Army General Jerry Boykin for having supposedly expressed the view that the war on terrorism “is a Christian crusade against Muslims.” Totenberg hatefully advocated: “I hope he’s not long for this world.”
When the other panelists were taken aback by her wish (“You putting a hit out on this guy or what?” and, “What is this, the Sopranos?”), she quickly backtracked: “In his job, in his job, in his job, please, please, in his job.”
The relevant portion of the October 18 Inside Washington, a show produced at Washington, DC’s Gannett-owned WUSA-TV and shown nationally on PBS stations:
Nina Totenberg of National Public Radio: “Now they’ve got this guy who’s head of the intelligence section in the Defense Department who’s being quoted as telling various groups, while he’s in uniform, that this is a Christian crusade against Muslims. I mean this is terrible, this is seriously bad stuff.”
Colbert King, Washington Post editorial writer: “The other thing about Boykin, he got it wrong. He said God put George Bush in the White House. The Supreme Court did it.”
Totenberg: “The Supreme Court put George Bush in the White House.”
Charles Krauthammer, syndicated columnist, joked: “It was 5,000 yentas in Palm Beach who couldn’t read the ballot. If that was not an act of providence, nothing is.”
Gordon Peterson, host: “By the way, he was showing pictures of Somalia, Mogadishu and there’s a black mark in the sky and he said 'these are demons who controlled this thing.’”
Totenberg: “Well, I hope he’s not long for this world because you can imagine-”
Several voices reacted in unison, drowning her out, including Peterson: “You putting a hit out on this guy or what?”
King: “Are you Reverend Pat Robertson?”
Totenberg: “No, no, no, no, no, no!”
Peterson: “What is this, the Sopranos?”
Totenberg: “In his job, in his job, in his job, please, please, in his job.”
This wasn’t the first time Totenberg’s mind jumped immediately to offing someone whom she found offensive. Back on the July 8, 1995 Inside Washington, Totenberg had this reaction to Senator Jesse Helms’ complaint that AIDS research was getting a disproportionate share of federal research money. Inside Washington host Tina Gulland asked: "I don’t think I have any Jesse Helms defenders here. Nina?"
Totenberg replied: "Not me, I think he ought to be worried about what’s going on in the Good Lord’s mind, because if there is retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it."
That comment was a runner-up in the “I’m a Compassionate Liberal But I Wish You Were All Dead Award (for media hatred of conservatives)” category in MRC’s 1999 “DisHonors Awards” for the most outrageous quotes of the decade. To view a RealPlayer clip of Totenberg in action: http://www.mediaresearch.org
For what Boykin said months ago, and the hyperbolic media reaction last week, see this item in the October 17 CyberAlert: Stop the presses! A Christian man has expressed Christian views while speaking inside some Christian churches. A night after Tom Brokaw labeled the comments as “divisive” as he trumpeted how “NBC News has learned that a highly-decorated General has a history of outspoken and divisive views on religion, Islam in particular,” the other networks piled on Thursday night, treating a few remarks made months ago by Lt. General Jerry Boykin as suddenly scandalous. ABC and CBS put up a “Holy Warrior” graphic as each teased their respective evening newscasts. Peter Jennings touted: “The holy warrior in the American Army. God, he says, has revealed the enemy.” Over on the CBS Evening News, Dan Rather teased: “God and the U.S. military: One of the country's top Generals embroiled in controversy for saying we are at war with Satan.” For details: http://www.mediaresearch.org

Your correct, liberals enjoy free speech whenever and wherever they want. Conservatives should air their views in private or else.
Sounds like this gal is Hillary's half-sister. :D
-
Liberals are so tollerant and understanding of all others though :)
Liberals thinks it's okay for muslim leaders to to call America "infidels and the "Great Satan". It's okay to call America evil, godless and urge a holy war against us, but please don't be disrespectfull of the muslims in any way, thats bad....
We cant have an American general at church express his Christian believe that there is only one God, and that the Muslim god is not it. No, that's an OUTRAGE to a "tolerant and understanding" Liberal..... that person should die because of his beliefs.
-
Rush resigned?? From EIB??

Nah, just ESPN.

I guess the backlash against the Dippy Chicks wasn't considered free speech?
-
I didnt see anyone from NPR or any liberal station saying they wished the Dixie Chicks would die for their views.

As long as she does not get a job on NFL prime time, I dont give a flyin fahita.

the rabid raving right wing site you have there seems to have about as much credibility as rush on oxicontin.
got a non neocon hate site cite?
-
lord dolf vader: as much credibility as rush on oxicontin.
I doubt that oxycontin affects credibility or competence. Plenty of people operate normally while using mood-altering substances or pain-killers.
Not that I personally credit Rush with much credibility, but oxycontin has nothing to do with it.

Its funny how a single change in punctuation can alter a statement to make perfect sense.

LOL - what's your point?
Nina mispoke.. she corrected her self immediately.
General William “Jerry” Boykin did not mispeak. He stands by what he said, and he still does.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad did not mispeak, he stands by what he says.
The Majority of the Media is conservative... is edited by conservatives... is owned by conservatives... has always been conservative... and will remain conservative.
The majority of Americans are moderates... unfortunately it seems as if the extremist get the most attention.
Go Pat Buchannan.. Hiel! Hiel! Hiel!
-
>>Plenty of people operate normally while using mood-altering substances or pain-killers.
John Lennon and Paul McCarthy are prefect examples of this.
And Rush Limbaugh... in fact his rabid rants get even more funnier and incoherent the more drugs he takes.
So...
Pot is the liberal drug...
Crack is the urban drug...
Cocain is the yuppie drug...
Oxycotin is the conservative drug?
-
DmdNexus: And Rush Limbaugh... in fact his rabid rants get even more funnier and incoherent the more drugs he takes.
Just a coincidence.
Incoherece was due to him being deaf but trying to hide it while funny is when a self-proclaimed conservative has to defend big-government socialism he woudl have love to blast if it was conducted by democrats.
Pot is the liberal drug...
Crack is the urban drug...
Cocain is the yuppie drug...
Oxycotin is the conservative drug?
Cocain was sold in farmacies and did not cause much social problems, same like alcohol.
Upper class and professional people used both without much adverse effects. Underclasses used to get drunk, not high.
You may want to learn the hightly-racially biased story of the ban on cocain and otehr narcotics. Some people are less resistant to certain drugs/alcohol, etc. It's all in the genes.
Ron Kuby took all drugs known to man and is now a distinguished lawyer and radio talk-show host.

>>big-government socialism
some of you all need to get out of the house...
I've lived in several socialist countries.. even a communist country for awhile...
the US is hardly socialist. In fact, I think we are one of the more compasionate countries there is...
After all we just liberated Iraq and Afganistan, and are spending 87 billion dollars to rebuild them, feed their poor, and give them jobs.... Perhaps build up their manufacturing industry so they can make cars, radios, and consumer electronics... no wait... we've already given the Japanese that American industry...
How about textiles... nope that's indonisa and latin America...
Well I hope those area rugs from the middle east start to come down in price!
Computer IT services are in India...
What jobs can we give Iraq ??
I'm sure the Socialists in Bush's administration will figure something out.
Too bad we can't help California keep business in that state by giving them a grant of 10 billion. After all what are they but 1/15 of the GNP. (Ok I made 1/15 up... I know it is a large number compared to all the other states)
Or what about the same medical aide we are giving to the Iraqis Why not share that aide with the 30 million Americans which have no medical insurance....
Is that socialism? To to give to foreigners, but not our own?
-
DmdNexus: I've lived in several socialist countries..

Apparently you have no idea what "socialism" means. "Socialism" is a olitical arrangement when a state sets goals and undertakes projects using wealth extracted from population by threat of violence - rather than maintain order and allow people to set and accomplish their goals via economic means.
Political means = using coercion to make people act in ways they would not act voluntarily to advance goals set by the current rulers of a state.
Economic means = people are free to cooperate (or not) and engage in voluntary transactions and exchanges to advance their goals - or refuse from such transactions.
After all we just...
All the "good deeds" that you've listed as well as space program, federal pension system, etc. would be free-market if done by independent entrepreneurs or charities but are socialist when done by the government using taxes coercively collected.
Is that socialism? To to give to foreigners, but not our own?
Exactly. Political Means vs. Economic Means.

was she misspeaking when she said this. nope.
[/B]The Majority of the Media is conservative... is edited by conservatives... is owned by conservatives... has always been conservative... and will remain conservative.[/B]
where do you live, One TV staion is owned by a conservative, FOX and it has 2% of the viewing audience
[/B]The majority of Americans are moderates.. [/B]
Have you taken a look at the 2000 election map by district the whole damn thing is RED (republican) only in the inner cities where there is a high density of minorities, welfare recipients and academic elitist to you find BLUE (democrats)
-
>>the whole damn thing is RED (republican)
What an appropriate color for the republicans... just like RED China... and RED communist Russia...
Cuba has a history of an evil dictator, killing and imprisoning their people... and they are only 200 miles off the coast of florida... right under the belly of our glorious Representative Democracy!
Hell... let's go attack CUBA!!! Liberate the Cubians!
>>All the "good deeds" that you've listed as well as space program, federal pension system, etc. would be free-market if done by independent entrepreneurs
Then let the free market pay for Iraq, Afganistan and Cuba.
Stop using my tax money to pay for wars!
I do believe our dearest ally England is a Socialist country. Am I mistaken? I'm sure someone will say I am.
What the hell are we doing allied with socialists!
Are they the same as communists... pinko.... ginko... foreigners...
Pablum!

Cuba is 60 miles off the coast of FL.
And your racial slurs have demonstrated that as always when Liberals are faced with facts they call names.
"Liberals love humanity hate people."
-
Being that Democrats seem to be in the minority... as reflected by that map...
And we all know Democrats are liberals....
How is it... that the Republicans... which we all know are conservatives....still claim that the media is libral bias....
Wouldn't by now the "conservative" owners of the "liberal media" fired all the "Liberals"?
No?
Could it be that there is no Liberal movement... that it's just propaganda by a conservative power which is just paranoid and trying to hold on to their rhetoric of "fear and hate."
Ah... that reminds me there was only one president who resigned from the oval office... who undeniably brought disgrace to the office... and he was indeed a Republican. Remember... "I am not a crook" Nixon... "I don't even know what a crook is."
"You don't have Nixon to kick around any more"
Regan almost went there with IranContra... and Arabgate... but the Republicans got better at shredding documents... and aftera ll he couldn't recall.
Bush Sr. was the first president to pardon someone (Weinberger) before they were even charged with a crime.... odd... how can that be done! Weinberger had knoweldge of Bush Srs involvement in IranContra, because Bush was at the same meeting with Olie and Casper when arms for hostages was brought up. Bush's recollection was that he excused him self to go to the bathroom and wasn't aware of the agenda of the meeting... however.. Casper's notes stated otherwise... had Casper testified... and told the truth... Bush sr. would have been in deep doodoo.
Unlike Clinton... the Republicans actually broke serious US laws which involved national issues... and like the CIA leaks and Orwen Hatches disclosure of classified intelligence sources such as OBL cell phone... issues of national security
There's a few things stewing in the pot right now that haven't hit the presses about the current administration....
I'll play psychic... I predict impeachment proceedings in the 2nd quarter next year. :aok
-
>>racial slurs
"communists... pinko.... ginko... foreigners" are not a racial slur
And I wasn't calling any one here names....
Knock knock! Don't let the wood in your head dull your thoughts.
Sarcasm dude... I'm playing the War mongers pipes to demonstrate how absurd they are in their justifications for killing people.
They have just as much reason to attack Cuba, as they do Iraq...
If not more so... since Cuba has been doing it's thinkg for 40 years... much longer than Saddam since the gulf war.
-
your forgetting the majority of voters in 2000 voted liberal or even crazy liberal(nater). All the map shows is that the majority of democratic voters live in citys.
-
women, womenly men and liberals all live in big cities and they all vote like women.
they take stuff away from you for your own good.
lazs

What's wrong with women voting?
Hey laz... I think your knuckles are dragging on the ground..
Does Lazie wanna banana?
Might want to shave that single eye brow and make two.
Psst... the Neanderthal look went out thousands of years ago.

once agian proving my point
Liberials love humanity hate people. I thought you were the compasionate ones?
-
Cuba is ninety miles off our coast(our keys, actually).
-
wonder who has killed the most people by torture this year in cuba the cuban government or OURS?
remember when the "compasionate conservatives" on this board were supporting the torture/beating deaths of prisoners in cuba?
hint, the torturers are never the "good" guys ...ever
every religion on earth agrees on blanket responsibility for this type of stuff ( for instance you support torture and your a christian your goin to hell, seems pretty clear) or are you guys atheists?
i honestly wonder how you reconcile this **** and sleep.
-
hey JBA... read lazs comments about women....
such as... "liberals all live in big cities and they all vote like women"
The guy doesn't believe women should vote... he's made other such remarks in other threads...
His point of view is rather out of date...
Get some congruencey in your thoughts - why don't you.
by the way... would every one agree that Cuba is South of the USA and is with in 500 miles of our coast line?
Whether they are 200, 20, or 90 miles off our coast is not the point.
They are a communist country, dictatorship, and just as evil as Iraq and have been doing it longer.
And at one time... they had NUCLEAR missiles... which I'm sure the Conservatives will disagree... but in my book are WMD....
And they have supported terrorists... hint for those of you who can't remember history... Cuba has trained merchanies for years which have fought in Angola, El Salvador, and much more...

You're funny. Cuba never had nuclear missles, the Russians did and put them there under their control. We took care of that problem, remember?
As for equating Cuba with Iraq, do we really need to get into that? I would start by reminding you that Iraq was under a conditional cease-fire and never complied, thus the resumption of the war to solve the outstanding issues.

funny that wasent even on the revolving ( as they were disproved) list of reasons to invade at the time. hindsite is 20 20 huh?

What are you... 10? You make Weazle sound intelligent.

>>Cuba never had nuclear missles, the Russians did and put them there under their control
What a stupid retort....the missiles were on Cuban soil and were still a threat to US security. The Cuban's allowed the missiles to be there. The Cubans were part and parcial of the whole scheme.
Why do you think, the US still has an embargo against Cuba?
And yes we did take care of that problem... because it WAS a REAL threat to our NATIONAL SECURITY..
IRAQ was never a threat!
Some times I feel like I'm talking to the Special Ed kids. :lol
Can you spell S P E C I A L!
>>Iraq was under a conditional cease-fire and never complied
The Cease Fire was a UN resolution... under UN authority. NOT US AUTHORITY - Nor was it a US Cease-fire treaty.
The UN voted not to go to War with Iraq. That was a democratic vote.
The reason Bush gave to the US Congress for going to war and invoking the WAR POWERS ACT was that he had to ATTACK Iraq because Iraq represented an IMMEDIATE THREAT to the USA.
He porported that he had irrefutable evidence Iraq had STOCK PILES of WMD READY to be USED against the USA. And an ATTACK from IRAQ was IMMENANT.
LIES, LIES, and MORE LIES!
Bush used debunked intelligence which he was told 14 times by US INTELLIGENCE SERVICES was DEBUNKED intel. He and his staff were briefed on this information many times... and they still chose to use it in their justification to the US Congress.
Bushed used fabricated auto cad drawings and speculation to bolster his point of view which he passed of as US Intelligence... LIES!
Now he's says: "Ooops... Ok so they don't have WMD... Well we did a good thing because Saddam was EVIL... ahee!"
Let's ignore that he repeatedly said he had irrefutable US Intelligence... and that he had no doubt there Saddam was hiding STOCK PILES of WMD READY to USE.
You're funny for believing the LIEs... even after they've been exposed.
Oh wait... They found alleaged WMD plans (with all the other lying going on... I take this with a desert full of salt)... so if I draw a picture of a Mushroom cloud... can I use that as evidence of WMD? Can i threaten another country with EMENANT danger using just "Drawings."
:lol

liberals... they crack me up... they think they will get laid if they pretend to agree with women..
hell... sounds like a lot of em here have even convinced themselves... but save your *****y hissy fits for other liberals...
