Title: £77 Very well Spent (bout $100 US)
Post by: Adjuster on October 21, 2003, 04:18:06 PM
Bought a new CPU AMD 2400+XP replacing old 1.4 gig Athalon and saw a 15 - 20 fps increase in second beta ( tried an tested on both CPUs before ya all start :aok )

So my advice is if ya want AH frame rates on AH2 and your video card is OK consider a relatively cheap CPU upgrade to max out your mobo.

Obviously not everyone is going to have a cheap upgrade option but check it out you may be very pleasantly surprised how cheap it was and how much difference it makes.

A complete idiot at upgrades but even I could do this with 2 screwdrivers and 10 minutes to spare.

I'm plopping down for a 2500 Barton soon, A 2800 if the price would just come down another 30$. With the new Athlon 64's otw the old ones should start dropping like rocks.

I'm on the intel side of the fence, got a 1.5GHz P4 ATM, holding out for the 3.06GHz when it gets to around $150.00 if the price stays up I'll go with the 2.8GHz:p

if you can the xp 2500+ barton is a better choice than the xp2400+ as its a 333fsb chip unlike the xp2400+ which is a 266fsb chip plus the barton overclocks like a beast.

but obviously you need a MOBO that supports a 333fsb .

but saying that I got an XP2400+ as the bartons were way too expensive at the time and I'm very happy with it, but once a decent 400fsb AMD cpu is available for cheap I'm straight on it.

AMD XP2400+ 87 Euro (inc tax) no tax outside EU.  Thats about 60STG and 90USD and about the best value I've seen for a cheap upgrade.  I got a 2400+ and it seemsgood for AH2 even though I only got a Gef4Ti4200 card.
