I like it. Doesn't sound so much like jeuvile spewmanship as one would experience in a junior high locker room any more.

Been off for a few days and now see that a filter has been implemented.
Kudos HTC!
Unfortunately quite a few in the arena made it necessary. When so many decide to cuss and harass, it takes a blanket measure.
If anyone doesn't like the filter, blame it on those who forced the issue to this solution. There obviously wasn't a filter before and they made it where HTC had to put time and effort into a filter because they couldn't control their mouths.
Again, I say kudos to HTC for implementing this.
-
I also applaud HTC for implementing the filter.
It was sorely needed!

There are some questionable filtered and unfiltered words.
For example, you can't say "ass", but can say "damn", "squeak", "bastard", and "vaginal wart". You can still say "sh*t". And you can use most racist epithets.
You can also still swear in foreign languages.
If they tighten the parser, you could get censored due to typos or hitting words containing the key strings (like "help, I'm running low on gass[sic]" [contains "ass"], or "Hello!" [contains "hell"])
I was really surprised I got censored for saying "how did you stay on my bellybutton for so long?", but I could get away with "You chute shooting squeak!".
So we've opened a Pandora's box of:
a) What words are acceptable or not (we censor "ass"... but "bastard" isn't... how about "jap"?)
b) How to catch them reliably without censoring unfairly.
At this point, every time I'm on the radio, I'm afraid of censor because after the "ass"/"squeak" incident, I have no idea what's right and wrong anymore. Every time I type it's like driving on a freeway with a cop behind me: if I change lanes, is this guy gonna take offense for a double-lane change; not leaving my blinker on long enough; going too slow; going too fast?

BD take that F out of your WTFG ... i'm feeling harassed .

I am very pleased with the filter.
It might take some fine tuning, and I dont know if it should be included on squad channels, but for Ch1 and Country channels, it is a great addition.
WTG HTC, once again responding to the large majority of the communities wishes.

Problem is, it isn't a filter. It's a censor. The operative word is that the community doesn't want to "hear" profanity. There's nothing about not wanting to "speak" profanity.
As currently implemented, this censor penalizes people by muting them (not by filtering out their transmissions). Further, it penalizes on a *undefined* set of moral standards (you can't say "ass" but can say "squeak").
What I'm pushing for is a method that won't piss off anyone: push the filter further downstream to just before it enters the FE of the *receiver*. That way, the FE won't hear it, you're happy, and the red-faced guy can vent all he likes (most guys who swear, don't really care if anyone hears them).
Further, the AH host doesn't have to maintain a rather dubious list of keywords, and users will have a better control on what they want to hear. If someone starts spouting insults about pus-filled sexual organs, you can just add the keyword (and/or user!) to your list without waiting for the Host list to be updated.

Thank You, HTC. You've done the right thing.

Needs some Fine tuning but its a start.
Its sad that a minority ruins it for the rest, but something had to done.
I personally dont care if I see the odd rant or cursing, but the point we had gotten to was completely out of hand.
Quackheads on free trial perhaps?
WTG HTC for your work on cleaning house

Something needed to be done, and I think it is in the right direction at the very least. WTG!

The real question here is why HTC had to waste time to build a filter!!! Few have no manners in the arena. Those that use offensive language in AH prolly don't use it in a shopping mall. So why do they think it is acceptable here?? AH is just as public as a shopping mall. Seems to me that HTC could better spend their time on building the sim instead of being forced to police the language in the arena. We have hurt ourselves by letting it get to this point where something had to be done!! It's a shame that after the first post by someone about the language we weren't able to control it within the community.
It's a shame how so few can harm so many (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
<S>HTC for the extra effort (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Am still a happy customer (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Actually.... Being online tonight for a few hours was a real pleasure. No more squelching and channel 1 I left open. I did have to laugh at a few who wondered aloud why they could not say f&kkin A or plain old f&kk.
What HTC did helped clean up the airwaves ALOT. No need for game ops. No need for folks to log in disgust and no need for people to worry that if someone watched over thier shoulder that they would have to logoff AH as if they were perusing Persiankitty.Com (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

WTG!!
This has been a concern of mine for some time, and I'm really glad to see it implemented.
Thanks,

Hmmm... I like it. At least, people now have to think how to get around saying what they want to say without actually saying the simple words (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). In many cases the results are just funny and I'm pretty sure the search for the right phrase defuses the anger that prompted the outburst in the first place. WTG HTC!
Nuku - you seem like a nice guy, anti-capital panishment, everyone has rights etc kinda guy... It's fine - but what you are suggesting will take time and effort and won't make any differnce to the situation. No need to be concerned why squeak is allowed and sh*t isn't. It's hardly worth the effot - whatever HTC did cleaned up the radiochannels, let's just enjoy it, OK? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I'm with Nuku. The filter is on the wrong end. I don't care about swearing and the like, because I don't do that. But I can see no valid argument on the server side filter against a client side one. Sorry to be so dumb, but I can not see any.
For you concerned with bad language, client server allows you to filter whatever you like. I can't see the improvement on having HTC doing that for you.
I don't want to be misunderstood, I'm all for politeness, especially in an evironment (chat) prone to rude talking. But I strongly dislike having anyone telling me what I am able not only to say, but to hear, and what not.
Anyway, whatever, HTC has made its decission (funny to see somebody is entitled to state that has made the "right" decission), so be it.
All in all, the sense of having a nice playtime amongst adults has been eroded. Not big deal, I'm still a happy customer, but not the same feeling.
Cheers,
Pepino

A client side filter would only give one more thing that an already heavly burdened processor has to process. HTC got it right although it still needs a little tweaking.

I like it, but am fearful a "political' filter will be implemented and I won't to able to bash Gore anymore, hehehehehe!
-
Filter is okay with me. I'm not so much offended by certain words, as I am by someone whose apparent purpose is to trash the game. I play AH because I have a good time doing so. If someone else isn't having a good time, I'd rather they log off and take a break (or get muted) than try to spoil others' fun by being "loud" and rude.
Guess I'm gettin old..... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

HTC, can we please make this a client-side configurable filter? Maybe set it to "max" filtering by default and let people disable or turn it down as they see fit? Also being able to add to or customize the filter would be nice for people w/kids, especially those in other countries. I must say I AM AGAINST CENSORSHIP of all forms and I think it should up to the end-user to determine what they or the kids should be exposed to. Whaddya say HTC, give us a little flexibility? Please?

I think they got the name thing backwards. You should be forced to keep the same name even if you get a new account. Alot of foolishness in H2H comes from the anonymity of the newu thing. Haveing an identity, even if only in name, Is as close as we can come to being face to face, in a virtual world. IMO people would try to protect there good "name"
