is it just my impression or tehre are more people from the lower states playing here?
-
I think Texans need their own category. ;)
-
Those of us in California are neither thin blooded yankees nor thick speached southerners. We're just Americans.
Of, if you believe a southern friend of mine, 'weirdos'.
-
LoL I had a friend who grew up in the south tell me, when I was going to go to mississippi to buy a car, to lie and tell EVERYONE I was a texan. He said if they found out I was from Cali they would hate me and the cops my harrass me.
LOL he was not joking about it. Or he says he wasnt. I never went to find out though.
-
Florida... Bout as south lol as you can get..

Transplanted Yankee with a Southern Belle Grandma. How's that for a weird combination. :D
-
Ohio Yankee here. Even our Columbus NHL team is called the Blue Jackets.
My Great-Great-Grandfather fought in the 34th PA Infantry, Company I, and took a round in the thigh at the battle of Wilderness, VA.

"Yankee" and "thin blooded" in the same sentence is way off. I had snow on my porch this morning.

I would have fought to preserve the integrity of the Union.
So even though I am not of either Northern or Southern state heritage, I consider myself a Yank.
-
Yankee (NY and RI)! Although I don't know anyone, including myself, who uses that term to describe themselves other than discussing North-South/Civil war issues.
Where does W. Virginia fit in the mix? As far as I know, it was the Union loyalists region of old Virginia that broke off to form a seperate state after the war.
-
Nother TEXAN here. Howdy ya'll!
-
westerner
-
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, about as far away from the deep souf as you can get. :D
-
While we were a member of the Union during the Civil war, I believe Californians pretty much snickered at all the bruhaha in the East and spent thier time at the beach eating oysters.
Or dodging the "recruiters" in the San Francisco bars. (For the clipper ships .... get yer minds out of the gutter!)
-
American by birth...
Southern by the grace of God.
-
Parents grew up in Mass. and Maine, I was born in Missouri, but have lived in Georgia all my life. I consider myself a Southerner. Georgia is a great place to live. Well it was anyway until all these damn rude arse Yankee carpetbaggers started to move down here in the past 7 years. Georgia has changed quite abit (for the worse) with all the rude obnoxious Yankee fucts.
-
AKIron: I think Texans need their own category. ;)
Yes. It is still a matter of discussion whether Southern states in general tried to seccede mostly in order to keep slavery few more decades or just to avoid ruinous tariffs and encroachment by the central government.
But we know for sure that Texans did rebel and secceded in order to install slavery.
Yeager: I would have fought to preserve the integrity of the Union.
So even though I am not of either Northern or Southern state heritage, I consider myself a Yank.
And before that you would have been a loyalist happily killing patriots in order to preserve the integrity of the United Kindgom, right?

That's either the biggest whopper you've told here or the stinkiest bait.

Yank here. Michigan all my life.
Although once my Yankee arse figured out the Confederate flag stands for states' rights, I wish some of those old Southern political ideals were a bit stronger nowdays.

Funny you should put it that way "rebel". When Texas joined the Union it was under the agreement that Texas could leave the Union at will. Joining the Confederacy is another issue but I don't think I'd call it rebelling.
-
friend of mine from Texas said that they should build a wall on the border between texas, louisana and other surrounding states, seccesionist and all. I asked him when I could start :)
Lived in the south for 4 years. Although it was florida and that doesn't really count.
Given a choice, i'll be a yank :D
-
my relatives fought for texas and not a one owned a slave.
piss off.
-
Born a Yankee here.. but Sundiver's in denial. The good Texan that he is, refused to admit he was in love with a Yankee... so instead of saying I live in Michigan while finishin' school, we're saying that these damn yankees are holdin' this Southern Belle with good Texas Breeding hostage.
Thankfully I really do have the good Texas Breeding a generation back. ;)
-
Born a Yankee always a Yankee...
But I'd like to see the Marlins win :D .
Born in the North raised in the Good'ol' South
-
West Virginina, in the most ironic moment of the Civil War, was made a seperate state(can you say dis-union) by the Congress after the Union forces occupied it. President Lincoln signed the bill into law because had he not, the slaves in the area would have been delcared free by his soon to be signed Emancipation Proclamation, thus inciting the locals to fight against the Union once more.
Anyone born North of I-10 is a Yankee, North of I-20 is a Damned Yankee, and the Left coasters are neither, they are just fruits and nuts.

Thats funny. Hehe. Poor OLD Kentucky. Everyone north of them think they're hicks and everyone south of them think they're Yanks.
-
No Lizard, only been in OK for 3 months (Thank the Airforce for that) My legal home of residence still is and always will be Maine :)
-
LOL, to Lizard. Bud, I was born and raised in DogWalk, Kentucky. Population 35 countin the dawgs. I know about being a hillbilly.
-
Born and raised in Northern California, watched as Southern California took more and more of our water resources, necessary to sustain area farming, for their bloated expansion.
Current residence is in Alabama, thanks in part to the USAF, about 30 miles south of Lizard, and based on geographical location alone I think that makes him the Yankee and me the pass-the-sweet-tea-and-turn-on-the-game southerner. :D
heh heh heh ya big luftweenie :D

LOL Twist I read your post about it not being mustard. Having three children, I can assure you I've been there and done that ONCE as well. That's all it takes is once isn't it? ;)

*cough cough* yep

OK, let me modify it thus: If you are west of El Paso, you are with the F&N guys.
-
Southerner, and thankful to God for it. The USAF has placed me in many places, and that has reenforced my thoughts that there is no better place to live than in the soutern USA.
-
Neither yankee or southern just American. My buddy from Tennessee says I am a yankee but I was born much farther south in the country than he was up there. ;)
-
Ask the Yanks, I'm from the South, but ask the Rebs, I'm from the North. My state is mixed with the Caverts and the Crosslands, thus the black and gold check pattern, and the red and white crosses on my state's flag. They couldn't agree either. I am, and my heart will always be with the good ol' boys who love mash whiskey, fast cars, and women who look good, and can cook. The land I love has the ocean and mountains, and is full of blood from boys who died in battle. They all talked with an accent, North and South alike. You listen to someone from North...huh? You hear someone from South, and ask, "what did he say?" But ya know there's nothing better than seeing a southern belle's smile, while she's removing her clothes. YEEEEEHAW! :aok I'm a Crossland. ;)

Amen Amen, I am so thankful that I live in the South (Georgia). I have traveled through out the US and I can tell you there is nowhere in the US that can match the hospitality and friendlines of the South (GA,AL,TN,SC,NC,MS) anywhere else is not considered southern to me. My beloved Georgia Bulldogs might actually have a chance at a National Championship this year I am so exicted that the SEC will finally comeback to dominace within this year or the next 4 years. GOOOOOO DAWGS SIC EM WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with that statement :).
Though situated in the South I never considered myself a "Southern Gentleman" of the species found in the so-called "Deep South" so I see myself as a Native Texican.
Born in Texas, raised in Brasil until '65, now back home in Texas again.
American by the grace of God.
-
Cheesehead.
However, after living in Atlanta and Chattanooga, I can vouch that Capt. Funkypants is right. Your in the South if there is a Waffle House, period.
-
Anything north of the Red River is Yankeeland.:aok
My ancestors fought against the Yankees in the War of Northern Aggression.
-
Speaking of the Civil War, I found it funny living there lotsa Southerners actually still take a interest in it. Not in a historical Ken Burns way, but more like a pathetic redneck ignorance. I could only understand it as a grasp at heritage, which it is I guess, or just the way they were brought up. Certainly growing up in Wisconsin no one ever mentioned it as I recal. It got about as much attention as say... a war that happened 100 years ago.
-
Creamed,
Who yoe callin an igorant redneck bo-ah? Come down heah and say that! Ahll stretch yoe apple and tie yoe nads round yoe neck! Ahll kick yoe but clean cross the Mississippuh! Ahll smoke yoe lak a cheap cigah! Den, if by dat time yoe has learned some mannahs, ahll treat yah to a dinnah of pone, grits, and buttahmilk.
Da reason yu doan studah bout da Civil Wah is cause Sherman nevah marched cross Wisconsin.
Regahds, Shuckins;)
-
Shouldn't the question be "Are you a Yankee or a Reb"?, or alternatively "Are you a Northerner or a Southerner"?
-
Lol, some funny and ridiculous stuff here...I'm from Maine, lived in the South from the time I was 2 until 11. I consider myself neither a yankee or a southerner, no my friend I'm a Maineiac. Much good and bad to be said about both regions and I love them both. I will say that in the South there are many still fighting the Civil War, my older sister actually had a teacher that taught them the Confederacy won. Guess what ?, The Civil Wars over and South of the border we're all Yankees.:)
BTW ! Fellow Maineiac Athena, always like running across others from the Pine Tree State.:)
-
Naw Shuck, if Sherman had camped outside of Wisconsin in a blockade and drank every day for months like he did then, it would have been a tailgate stalemate. He would have finally had a heart attack.
I'm just saying that the Civil War Southern pride to this day is kinda laughable, but I understand the upbringing and heritage. I actually really dig the Confederate Flag and what it represents. At that time, men were men, and were loyal to their states.
Still, like the blacks that wanted Clinton to give them money and apologise, I haven't met anyone that called me a yank that had the character or nads enough, that would say, go on Pickett's charge and have limbs blown of by primitive .50 cal rounds for what they believed in.
Read "Killer Angel's" . Amazing insite into bravery.
-
All this spent energy over who won that war, the Yankees or the Americans. I am telling you it is over and should be left alone.
-
People in AL are indeed really nice, but some of them are so damn stupid it's not even funny, especially when they mess up your bills :p
-
Udet, my man, there are stupid people everywhere.
-
yeah but the system works in its own way in sweet home Alabama :)
-
I have ancestors who fought for both sides in the civil war, many great-greats who fought the against the US Cavalry, (probably some who helped them too) and recently found out that one branch of the tree included some Hessains at Trenton who decided to stay after the revolution.
Guess that makes me an American. Born in AZ.

Nether. I'm an American. Lived around this country. It's the same with a local flavor all their own. That's whats great about this country.
By the way, grew up in SoCal. Haven't lived there since '78.
-
Come to Texas, Creamo. Most Texans are still fiercely loyal to their state and the fact that it was a Nation first.
-
Ive done did that Sundiver.
Went around the Texas Motor Speedway at 100 mph in a bad van equipped with Firestone tires and toured the VIP boxes. (yup, it was great)
Went to a steakhouse and signed up as a special member just to order a drink, then went through a Liquor Barn that gave us booze via a drive-tru, and drove with a suspect drunk 17 miles away from a dry county to buy beer in a grocery store later that weekend.
Texans are more than accomodating, but live in Reno for mearly a month. You'll appreciate a state that not only is the wild west, they condone it.
Texans are diffrent. A bad Wrangler jean wearing populous with silly laws. And they actually believe they are wild cowboys. LOL
Pass.

Thats funny, reminds me of something my sister used to say.
She worked for an insurance company handling customer service calls from all over the country. She said the absolute stupidest people in the world were from Baltimore. She called em Baltimorons. :D

Lizzie, I started to look the other way...nah. Yep, your sister is correct about the people she has spoken to in Charm City, but what she didn't tell you, those people moved from your area to Baltimore so they could have a job, and a dentist, plus the liberals here give them food, and a place to live until they get their watermelon together. :p

Reading classy man's post got me to thinking. My father's side came over from England in the 1890s, long after the Civil War was over. My grandfather came over from England in 1890 and was a lumberjack of sorts. Down South. Operated a sawmill long enough to build a house. And then did some work for neighbors.
My mother's side is from Yankee land Illinois, and it is possible my great great grandfather, could have fought for the Yankee side. My Mom's side is definitely Yankee though. She was born in Illinois and moved to Mobile when she was three.

Sheesh classy have you still not read my original reply to this thread...I never cast *aspersions* on Southerners, lived in the South many years and loved it and the people as much as anywhere I've lived. I did poke a little fun at someone called classy man going ballistic over this issue...and in my mind it's not an issue to begin with.
