Title: socal fires
Post by: B17Skull12 on October 25, 2003, 10:49:36 AM
well we have 1 out where MT lives should be gone in a day or 2 but the 1 up in the mountians is now becoming a pesty 1. i wake up this morning at 8am to find grey smoke coming over the top of our house.  Yesterday morning whe i got to school it was raining ash.  7 high school football games were canceled yesterday cause of smoke.  belived cause of the fire ARSON.  I have a wierd feeling terrorism is invloved with this fire.  the winds are being friendly either think today forcast was gust up to 30.

Yeah.. arsonists only comes from abroad.
Local terrorism by a local arsonist I'd say...  something which happens every once in a while.
Let's refer to terrorism by then when you see a shopping mall on fire during a broad daylight.
Otherwise I recommend keeping the word 'terrorism' out of this.

Quite likely, especially these days, people minds 'terrorism' as something coming from abroad against their nation.

In this relation it's more confusing statement than necessary.

So it's okay to refer to terrorism when it's a mall on fire during the day, but not a forest on fire? What does being on fire in the day have anything to do with it anyway?

I suggest you chill out a little.

You could be right, but I think it's too broad of an assumption to generalize all "people" :)

All speculation aside, the Lytle Creek fire grew from 4000 to 12000 acres almost overnight. They not only canceled games, they closed most of the schools in a 10 mile radius of the fire. Thousands are being evacuated as we speak. If this thing takes hold in a residential area it becomes almost unstoppable. Hard to build a fire break there.

I've seen hundreds of homes go in similar situations at least 4 times in my lifetime. If the Santa Ana winds hit as forecast we could really be in trouble.

Looking south towards the Camp Pendleton fire. This is about 70 miles away as the crow flies.

Looking Northeast toward the Lytle Creek fire. About 20 miles away. (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/ah_94_1067103379.jpg)

i say terrorism cause i fins it very hard to belive that 2 arsons started on the same day just a few hours apart. ironic isn't it.

If I am not mistaken B17skull12 is quite young right?  I think this is how his generation is going to view things from now on.  ALthough I seriously doubt this had any link to terrorism, it is a major issue, especialy if you live near one of the fires...  SO Cal has these fires every OCT and NOV, when you get the Santa Ana's, it turns a small portion of the thousands of fires they have every day into large ones and it makes the news.  Happens every year.  Most arson Fires are actualy set by someone who stands to benifit from the fire, usualy financialy.  IF a firefighter has had a slow year, they might be tempted to light on eoff so he can go fight it and get the extra pay.   Some times it is just started by some wacko, who has some serious problems.  LIghting fires would be a very poor way of inciting fear and terror.

All true medicboy. Some years are worse than others though. This one just took a bad turn about 1 hour ago. Santa Ana winds (hot wind out of the east) started up. The Reche Canyon fire WAS 100% contained. It has just been reactivated. Smoke from the Lytle Creek fire is now covering my town.... 20+ miles away.

Ok, maybe it is not just a younger generation thing.  How many people thought the NEw York black out was terrorism?  This is just the world we live in.

Mt, a good friend of mine ownes a company called frontline medical.  He and a few other paramedics provide the first aid and rescue support at the base camps at large fires, he is somewhere down there now, left 2 days ago, rakes in the bucks during a hot fire season.  I think he said he was going to be near Rancho Coucamonga???  Not sure.

Eh? chill? I weren't the one who brought up 'terrorism' paranoia into the picture.
What comes to the shopping mall on fire, theres more reason to believe it being 'terrorism' than a forrest fire.

Thats the Lytle Creek fire. Although thats not the name it has now... I think they are calling it the Grand Prix fire. Not sure why.

Good luck to your friend. The other day they lost a water dropping helo. The pilot parked on a ridge and the fire turned. Crew got out, but no time to take the helo off the ridge. Its a burned hulk now.
