Title: Power loss at boot up..

New system was rolling along with relatively few hitches until today.  As I boot up my system, as soon as the HD starts to revv up, the whole system loses power.  After trying to start up 20 ar 25 times it finally allowed me to get on.  I suspect a power supply problem, but it is strange I had no problems unti now.  (about 2 weeks with new system).  Could it be a spike at startup?
  I have not overclocked anythiing and have no problem while I am on.  Anybody got any ideals?:confused:

My cpu is well under the temp limit.
all fans are working.
My power supply is 350w, which is probably borderline for this system, but strange i have no lockups when I am pushing the graphics to the edge in il-2 and AH.

Just a question.. I'm getting that exact CPU this monday..

What's your review of it?

Its prety darn cool.  it blows 55 fps in the tower at AH2, full res and color.  May want to get a 430 watt power supply, though.
  Havnt even started to tweek or overclock yet. May not need to.

Many new cases with built in power supplies are overated, Your best bet is to get a good brandname 400w or better power supply, you'll be needing it for future upgrades anyway.

That system needs at least a 430W PS.  For comfort, I would go with the Antec 480W TruPower.

yea..i know iknow.  of all places to cheap out on.  Oh well, it came with the case.  I guess I go buy a PS:)

  I did a system restore and it seems to have fixed the problem..

Yea a few people have suffered that with the Max3.
I had it a couple of times, after a bout of bios tweaking etc left it overnight and would not restart.

Usually after 3 failed attempts to restart it will auto load Bios defaults and start ok.

If you have any problems its best to go into bios and load all defaults and save, restart then go back into Bios and tweak to your required settings.

Oh and i am using a 450w PS.

yea.  I did just get into the bios and enable the cpu shutdown at 194 degrees (or something like that), but thats all.  I wonder if there is something wrong with that option?

Heh, if your cpu overheats, that would cause the 'problem.'

Man, the more I hear about the issues people have with the IC7Max3, I am SO glad I didn't go that route.  *shakes head*  seems like Abit still doesn't quite get it.  :(

I've also found out that while review sites praise Abit boards for overclockability and bells and whistles, I always end up with a monday sample.

Then again, my first Abit BH6 is still running overclocked today. :rolleyes:

Regardless, I won't buy Abit anymore.
