Title: Went shooting yesterday
Post by: Udie on October 26, 2003, 09:29:01 AM
What an absolute blast.  It had been years since I shot any sort of pistol.  And I got to shoot a lot of guns I had never shot.

 .44 mag
 .357 mag
 .45 auto
 10mm auto
.308 Belgian army rifle (can't remember the name)
 several 20 guages
my 12 guage and a 12 guage magnum.

We shot about 400 clay pigions :)  Which was a bit easier than I thought it would be, but I still missed ALOT.  For the pistols I think I liked the .45 the best. Though it only had a 7 shot clip so it emptied fast. The .44 mag was so freaking accurate I couldn't believe my eyes.  I was shooting at 4" dia. clay pigions at 50 yds and hitting them every shot.  It had a 6" barrel, old west style of gun.  Yeah those handguns are viagra ;) The best gun though was the .308 belgian army gun.  The owner of it said it could be fully auto but he took the kit off.  It was a big rifle.  Larger and heavier than an ar-15 and would fire as fast as you could pull the tirgger, though only the first shot was accurate when fired like that :)

Here's the best part.  It had been about 10 years since I shot a rifle.  Before yesterday I had only shot rifles with power 9 scopes. I had no idea back then about lead or bullet drop or anything like that I just put the crosshairs on the target and shot.  The .308 had iron sites similar to what I'm used to on OFP and WW2OL.  When I started shooting targets with the .308 I hit ever shot.  My buddy tripped out and asked where I learned to shoot.  I told him ww2OL :D  All went well until right before I left they handed me the 12 guage magnum.  I shot that thing once at a clay bird and it just about broke my shoulder   Now i have a big 6" round bruise on my right shoulder and my ears are ringing.

THAT WAS AN AWESOME DAY! Thank GOD I live in Texas!!! :D

Udie, my wife and I went shooting today and we also had a blast.  We haven't been shooting since we moved to CA 3 years ago. I just bought a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 bolt-action rifle and wanted to give it a go. Wow what a nice rifle for $115. Accurate and well made.

We shot my Makarov 9x18, wife's Beretta 92FS and a friends competition .38 Super. My wife had a ball with the laser site on the comp. :)  Overall it was nice getting back to the range again. Damn I missed it.

I think my next purchase will be a .45. Always wanted one but never got around to getting one.

My friend has a Glock 44, real nice - unfortunately can only shoot stationary paper targets (or moving meat targets robbing your house) in my area. BUT! One of my friends knows someone that works the range, so we get to test fire anything we want and several free boxes of ammunition for whatever we bring and whatever we test fire.

Udie, sounded like a lot of fun :)

.308 Belgian, semi but capable of full, and heavier than an AR... FN-FAL?

Yeah, like Mauser I was thinking FN-FAL.  Fine weapon that one.

Sounds like a fun time, glad you like the .45, its my favorite.  Bought my first one at 16 yrs of age, had to have my Dad buy it in his name, had it reregistered in my name when I turned 21.  Still have it.

44 mag is awesome, though I prefer it in the Desert Eagle semi-auto version.  Not wild about that caliber in a revolver.

Another fun rifle to shoot, and deadly accurate is the Springfield Armory M1A.  (semi-auto version of the M14)

The Ruger Mini 14 is a fun plinker.

sorry to hear that pooh... I bet that you would suggest that Americans join the NRA before it happens to us huh?

44 revolver is the best caliber for revolvers.   perfect for just about anything... especially if you reload.

I just talked to the engineer who's house we were at and he said it was an FN.  It looked similar to the bottom one in that picture above.  It had a little handle thingy that was on the right side of the gun.

We just relived the day in our monday staff meeting :) that really was a blast!
