Really? Never understood that--if you shoot the pintle gun, the number does not decrement from the turret amount (only the pintle load) but if you shoot the TURRET it does. Why is that?

It's not the pintle/turret ammo combined.  The pintle just happens to also have 2100 rnds itself.  The 2190 number comes from the 80mm shells + the MG in the turret itself.  The Tiger has three MGs total (I think):  Pintle (coaxial), Turret, and Hull.

edit:  88mm, not 80 :)  oops!

Hitech said that trees, bushes, and what not will be run-overable (is that a word?) by tanks.

Not the same thing, but,

I love the IL2 in AH, and these trees just give the little bugger GVs stuff to hide under :(
Title: Morning Wood...
Post by: Sarge on October 27, 2003, 09:49:55 PM
yea i like that... we needed the trees back in AH to hide those GV's in.. and hopefuly they can stay and not be removed with the clutter on/off. no use putting them in if you kill the trees with clutter off. Kind of dumb to do that when one hides in trees and the ones with clutter off sees them.. why bother even putting in trees . so hopefully it will stay as for a gv guy would like a chance to save the tiger perks by hiding. I had a ball when it was like that before. I loved catching a tank sneaking by and blasting it. There are quite a few of us that use gv's as much as we fly. SO HTC dont let any one whine you into losing the trees again with clutter off. the GV guys want them in

i also hope one can't shoot rounds through them.

yea that sounds good. a nice battle of the buldge would be good , all we need is a US tank that was there M4 with the weaker 75mm cannon . we need more tanks in there . t34 would be nice the what USm19 {or was it well forgot now} tank destoyer 90mm would be nice and the m4 sherman and a british tank.. that would make a nice set of GV,s to go with the pnzr and tiger this way i wouldnt have to ride with a swastika on my vehicle.... jap. and itl. well they didnt have anything worth while so they wouldnt count for much for tanks in battles

Looks horrible to me.  Hell the trees in that crappy 4 yr. old "Deer Hunter" game looked better.  I would have expected better.  Oh well guess AH2 isnt going to have the eye candy I thought it would, but what can you expect for a 2003 sim to be based on a Gf2 800mhz system.

Either you're being sarcastic or you have no comprehension of the differences in the games you mentioned.

Deer Hunter had, what, a 200 to 500 yard render range?  I wouldn't be surprised if it had less.

AH has a vastly larger render radius and must be able to display the same graphics to both the tanks that can't see far and the aircraft which can without causing the aircraft's frame rates to plummet to unplayable levels.

You cannot have HL2's close in graphic detail in a flight sim on today's computers.

Take a look at Il-2:FB's graphics from that position.  AH2's are far, far better and people generally rave about hpw great IL-2:FB's graphics are.

From the pic posted it looks like crap.  200 to 500 yds that pic doesnt look anything like that the trees maybe extend 200 ft in the background, not to mention they are way out of prapotion in regards to the size of the tank.  All I am saying is from what I have seen so far in the Beta, and this pic I am not at all impressed.  Thats my opinion and I will stand by it, no need to get all fanboish on me.

Funny thing is the XBOX actually has relatively the same specs as the AH2 base system, and even the crapiest game on a low res TV looks better graphically than anything I have seen in AH2

In that picture they don't extend all that far.  However they must be simple enough so that when they cover a view for miles from the air they don't kick the frame rates to hell.

You're not looking at the overall picture that the engine must accomplish.

Do you really think that the HL2 engine (or the Deer Hunter engine) could display a twenty mile radius (with about a two mile high detail radius) without dropping to multiple seconds per frame on an Athlon64 FX with a Radeon 9800 Pro? Frankly I bet they'd crash before they'd even do that much.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Your Xbox would die if it tried to render AH2's environments at the resolutions used by PC monitors.

Everything looks pretty on consoles because they render at low resolutions, with low resolution textures.  The TV blurs things enough that it looks good.  Console games that look great on a TV look like **** if you port them directly to PC.

only idiots give a flying F* about what the graphics look like

if AH2 is going to be as good as it sounds like id be happy with WB2 graphics...

IL2 fb has decent graphics...but it isnt a downloadable MMOG that has to handle HUGE maps and 400+ players at any  one time

That may be true, but keep in mind the point made by others in this thread--AH being a MMP game has to model a hell of a lot more objects than an Xbox game, and furthermore has to share a large percentage of these objects over network connections.  So each object will be less detailed in AH than an equivalent object in a single-player game.  Given the limitations imposed by current computer hardware and network speeds, what I see in these screenshots looks pretty nice.

X-Box also runs off cd's 600mb+

No one seems to mention your getting quite a bit of game for a mere 30 to 40mb download.

imagane what this game would be if it were say 100mb+ or 200mb+ download,  like some of the demos I have seen online.

and those are just demo's.

personally I can't comprehend how HT puts so much game into such a little file.

I had visions of T34s or M4s but alas....
============================

Im inspired by the music of Rush:

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
(and they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream `oppression!`
And the oaks, just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
’the oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’
Now there’s no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw ...
