I cant view film, but I am guessing he was on my 6, with better turn fighting plane, and I fought him anyway. He apparently got a clean shot, but I thought if it were me, I would have saddled 200 out in his situation. I probable was flaming him using the old, HO, rant, but I dont think he wants an even fight. I dont remember the engagement as he is just another no skill dweeb wanting to kill big-mouth SkyRock. Well enjoy it Vulcan.
I asked him to fight me in a duel, which would involve same plane, co-alt co-e headon merge(cold of course) and see what he's really got. of course he doesnt want to fight. :rolleyes:

Im sure your family is pleased you spend all yer time "owning" AH. They prolly like yer personality as much as the rest of us and appreciate that your not bothering them during the 10 or so hours a day you play. But I can just squelch ya- so ya dont bother me either :p.

AH is just that, AH. It's a game. 200, is just that, 200. If you take Muppet bantor seriously, you might need psychological help. It's our motto! Now do you want to see who can fly cartoon planes better or not? Maybe you want to attack my family some more, you scum! By the way, I spend my AH time at night when family's asleep! That's the part I don't get ... seriously ... you got shot down, and according to you it wasn't an HO, so why throw out a "rant" ? What does it accomplish ... outside of this totally ghey thread, or a diarrheal diatribe on 200.
Mark, I think you are too good of a pilot to have to resort to this. I tell ya, Leviathn who, in my era, is the best pilot in all of Aces High, NEVER EVER ranted on 200 ... if he got shot down, he would simply send a salute or a "nice shot" and then move on and kill everyone in his sights ... he was confident enough in his abilities to not have to "rant" on 200 to try and explain away his momentary shortcoming which lead to his death.
I don't care who you are ... you WILL eventually get killed and it won't always be by someone as good or better than you ... and when they kill you, you do just like Guppy and the rest of us do ... get a new plane and "git 'er done".
I'll say it one more time ... Mark, I think you are too good of a pilot to have to resort to this.

I would like to add: EVERYBODY but a 2-week squeaker is a better pilot than to need to resort to that.
I admit I might PM pilots once in a while (rarely) if they piss me off with their timidness or whatever, but rarely will I just go off on them, and not on ch.200 (not even back when I tuned to it). It's just not acceptable, no matter who does it, IMO.

That's another thing I don't get ... in my 5+ years of playing this game, I have NEVER PMed anyone that may have pissed me off, and for the life of me, I can't really remember ever getting pissed off at anything in Aces High ... I don't think there is anything or anyone in this game that could bring me to that point.

The only thing i get pissed at in this game is---myself.
I still have alot to learn and consequently make stupid mistakes.

I have received a few PMs, and its kinda funny that they all seem to come from guys with real good scores.
Trust me--i didn,t kill them with skill--it was luck--or THEY made a mistake.
They never seem to blame themselves.
Its always a- HOtard or a better turning plane or -or-or-blah blah blah.

Negative, not SlapShot, but Krusty. Krusty made the claim. It must have been an incorrect "quote button hit".
Error correction: Krusty said he'd "PM someone from time to time". But then would be quick to "call them sad" if it was done to him.
Slappy should know that I've never had an issue with him, never.

To reply to masher: I never said "sad" I said unacceptable to go off on rants/tirades on ch.200. Even rants/tirades in PM is unacceptable. When I said I PM folks every blue moon, it's not a rant or tyrade, so that doesn't apply.

Slap, you know I only want a good fight. I salute good fights, I do however use the 200 ch to start them, and I do find that I enjoy it very much. Now, I can't view the film, so I am just going to have to wait for someone to post it in a way that I can view it. I have already stated, that I do get caught up in the "200 pik a fight" a little much and would rather just meet the guy for a fair fight. I even admitted that I could be wrong even though I haven't even seen the film yet. I have been in the wrong too many times to count on numerous occasions! Very rarely do I post films on the bbs, and I only do it as a last resort. On the other hand, this guy wants a fight(or at least by posting this film one would think he does), but is not willing to actually go and set some up. It tells me much about him.
Now, I know Lev is one of the great stiks and he was not known for insulting people on 200, but if you talk to me like he never insulted people, then you're barking up the wrong tree. I do not care to be Lev, I am very happy being SkyRock!

I have no doubt that the Mark behind the Skyrock is a good man. And Skyrock is too good a pilot to have to run the mouth on 200.
We spend a lot of time howling on thise boards or on 200 about squeakers and newbies. I'm of the opinion, pounded into me by my flight sim 'elders' that part of my responsibility is to help pass on the game. How we present ourselves makes a differenece in how the latest wave of players will handle themselves.
I know that teacher part of Skyrock is there and shares the wealth. The 200 rants takes away from that part in my opinion. Skyrock is a very visible part of the community and good or bad leaves an impression on how it should be played.

Not everyone cared for the way Mohammed Ali promoted himself either. I,ve never had a problem with Skyrock, and this whole thread stinks of childish envy.

NEVER EVER did I see Lev insult anyone. Don't want you to be Lev (one WoW fairy is enough) ... just my thoughts and advise ... simply that ... take it or leave it.

Ali and his "promoting" was all about money and marketing ... now if SkyRock is making money at this ... then I retract all that I have said. Somehow I don't think that I will have to post a retraction anytime soon.

You'd have to know Todd a little bit to know he wasn't a mouth on 200. He's an old Nomad from the AW days and that was always part of the deal. how we presented ourselves was important.
I don't recall ever seeing Lev run his mouth anywhere.
As for Vulcan. You loudly accused him of HO'ing you and there isn't even a front quarter shot on the film. You are a 51 and his a 16. he's tailing you and you turn into him a number of times. He doesn't shoot at those times but waits to get the angle.
I'm not sure how he's looking for a fight by refuting what you are clearly saying on 200. LOL Mark he could have accused you of running a couple times in it and didn't. He waited for you to reengage and stuck with you.
The plane match wasn't in your favor low and slow and it cost ya. But who cares right since you get a new plane :)

All true Slap, and you will never find myself on 200 or PMing anyone with anything other than a greeting from the enemy side, or a good natured discussion about an encounter. Maybe I'm not qualified to speak on the topic because of those reasons, but I wanted to stress my personal dealings with SR, while limited, have never been negative to the point of bringing someones family into a discussion. SR is an antagonist. Every fight has one. Sure, his ability doesn't merit behavior that some report, but unlike some people who engage in it just to be an arse, or because they can't hack it in the cartoon skies, SR will duel anyone.

He engages in it (unjustified, as this case has pointed out) just to be an arse. It doesn't matter if he wins or loses, he's still an arse about it. At this point skill doesn't matter. He's just being a jerk. I think that's why he gets so much "attention"...

If somebody IS so anti-social, and such a bad personality, it's not much of a stretch of the imagination to think that nobody wants to have anything to do with him, even his family members or friends.
That's not "dragging his family into it" per se, but rather driving home the point like saying "When he was a kid his momma had to tie a porkchop around his neck just to get the dog to play with him!" -- it's not about the momma, the dog, or the porkchop.
So to me that was not "dragging his family into it" -- a silly notion. Mention of them was secondary to the point: The people he knows are probably happy he's being a jerk online, rather than to them.
Had to back atoon up on his "never dragged family into it" point. The rest he's on his own, but don't rag on him for insulting SRs family, because he did not.

I dont think the issue is who you have a problem with. Its the amount of people that have a problem with you. I dont know if there is something in the real world thats got you on tilt, but here lately its taking alot of effort to even be polite to you. I have not had a personel issue with you in the past Rock, I like you. But your bull**** on 200 is over the top right now.

You've gone out of your way to have a problem with both Jaxxo and myself, among many others. You can try to claim to be the victim here, but the fact is, as Krusty pointed out, that you act like such an bellybutton because you can, and for no other reason. It's not warranted, it's not just retaliation when you are treated in kind- you have been this way, albeit not quite so bad, since you started.

If some folks are going to spend the night on 200 being obnoxious then they better learn to "man up" when it's returned in kind.

Hornet, please note, that I did not start RL talk with him, but it is a fact that I do not back down from big man talk in RL either. Now, that being said, I have had little training in martial arts, just enough to know some basics. I am not an incredibly strong fellow, nor am I weak in any sense of the word. I have walked out of bars on many occasions where the situation was completely drivel to begin with. I have also fought multiples and took my share of hits. I do not encourage talk about how 'bad" someone is in RL here on the boards because it is stupid, although I do retort about it occasionally. But for some reason, and I'd have to search the topics to find some more of his quotes, LYNX keeps referring to going to bars and talking big, which I do not do. I find those types to be ignorant morons for the most part. Generally speaking, if I'm in a bar, I am either in the band, there to see a band, or there to have a good time, which does not include fighting. I will, and have, fought in RL and many times it was unavoidable. I am lucky enough to have the capacity to determine when and how to avoid stupid morons who get drunk and want to fight. On the other hand, I have and will continue to defend myself when it comes down to necessity!
PS If you want internet tough guy stuff, look up VOSS threads or JohnnyRA threads! Your not going to get it from me!

You know, I've sat back on a lot of what has been said about Mark. What is intriguing is that I remember giving him some pointers as 031598. Not many people knew "who SkyRock" or "ColdKill" was.
I've NEVER had an issue with SkyRock. I see him taunting on 200 and in here. Squealing and Lying? I've never seen it. Also Vulcan, I've never seen you in the game period. Unless "you have another handle" in game? Prove your "accusations", or don't tell of them.

I give this thread a base score of 5.5. It has been underwhelming so far, and it had a lot of potential. It does get one bonus point each for the Monty Python reference (with screen cap) and Bighorns adaptation of Chuck Norris jokes to SkyRock. That bumps it to a 7.5, but thats still far below what I was expecting from this thread.

The truly good ones never needed to do anything but to a victor. Their abilities were not diminished by being shot down...who even knows the circumstance? The winner can say, "Wow, I got Leviathn!" The rest of us could admire Leviathn's incredible skills and dignity. We call it honorable.
I'd add BigMax to that, and I am sure there is a long list of dignified, outstanding pilots.

After pondering this with my squaddies and asking them if they were on when this occured, I remember the guy vulcan6 who was HOing everything in sight for two days where I was flying. I have already apologised to this coward terd for getting him mixed up, but he just wants to come on here and post one film and think he's going to "SHOW" what skyrock "really" is, when in fact I should have called him a coward dweeb tard, it would have fit nicely after seeing how this thread has gone! I still haven't viewed the film but I asked some friends and they said it was a clean shot, so I take them at word. I caught one of my squaddies telling someone to stop whining the other day, and I jumped their arse about it!~
This guy deserves 0 respect for what he is trying to do, rather than just fighting cartoon airplanes! What a punk waste! I can't say anymore about this occurance without seeing the film!

I am a single father of two, boy 5 and girl, 9. I am a school teacher with certifications in science, vo-tech, and PE. I am a very nice guy and had a wonderful mother who taught me to be extremely respectful of people.(yes sir no sir kind of upbringing) My father was a civil engineer for the FAA. He and my mother stayed together until I was in college. I graduated college in '91 with a BS in education. I started acting in '92 and co-starred in a Disney film called, "The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag", I played Glen and I got killed in the end of the movie. I started training with one of my co-stars, who eventually became a great friend of mine, Red West, who played the plane mechanic on the series, "Baa baa blacksheep". His wife, Pat, is my agent. I have done numerous TV shows both locally and nationally including starring in episodes of the show, "America's Most Wanted" as an actor and local variety shows as a musician. I am a published songwriter and spent four years writing commercial jingles along with live appearances and teaching guitar. I have been a working musicain on and off since '92 and also worked as a session musician mainly in rap studio's around memphis, where I still get calls to do guitar work on projects. (Mississippi schools get out one hour after Memphis city schools) I am a very happy person and am currently working on a recording project with my brother and a very good friend of ours as the lead guitarist and singer/songwriter in a band called OCD.(one of our closest and longtime fans suffers from this and it stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) We mainly play Pop/punk/rock with some leanings towrds modern rockabilly. I have been in life threatening situations on way to many occasions and feel very lucky to have only had a broken nose, and just a few scars. Now, as far as AH goes, I have developed this character for over 4 years(edited for wrong year). SkyRock, the character, is an arrogant stunninghunk, but he is honest and as loyal as you will find anywhere. He is very intense and will kick your teeth in if you mess with any of his friends. He will own the hell out of you , then nicely show you how he did it, so that you might learn as well! He gets his arrogance from the hard knocks of life, and meets fear with doubled up left fist and a right handshake if you're cool! He is human and makes mistakes, but would rather just kick the crap out of anyone who won't fight! He is definitely moody, and has been known to get more drunk than "Cooter Brown"! He is the best F4U-1 pilot in the game! hee hee, hear that AKDogg, BluKitty, Sirloin? He finds himself non-attracted to prolonged boring fights and would rather fight from the dis-advantage because it creates total ownage! He has been known to DA! :D

Skyrock is like a Marine drill sergent, u Piss him off he will give u hell about it, and the more u yell back the worse it gets and no matter what u are never right. But after he is done tearing u apart he will build u back up up and teach u what u did wrong.

My point is when a pilot is so skilled that u can tell right away that it is them. They earn a certain lvl of respect in this game well exept Habu, cause he runs and Ho's and when he cherry picks u from 5k above when u are already engaged, he quote OWNT U, but after that I spent some time showing him what OWNT really ment by letting him saddle up then reversing him LOL.
Skyrock falls in this catigory I almost always know when its him, and I know its going to be a interesting fight. One day I hope I strike the same amount of fear into people as these guys do when I am spotted in the air. but with shooting 1200 planes down a month. I am sure the other sides cheer when I go down in flames LOL.

For what its worth SkyRock, I have flown against you and your squad and think y'all are great sticks, allthough Slapper dislikes me over a misusderstanding which I hope we can clear up. Y'all Muppets are skilled in the furball as well as the one on one, I find it hard to believe that they even acuse you of Hoin'. Well there is my 2cents.
(Ps. Sky, please tell Slapper that I really did mean the whole spitty thing as a compliment because he whipped that spitty around and made it dance superbly. It was refreshing to fight a spit and not be HOed then flat turned. I eagerly await a chance to hang out with y'all some time.)

I get it now never understood Skyrock I guess it is some form of method acting for you. Question for Mark is Slapper one of your characters as well? He seems to have a similar style of banter & swagger & the chance that two so alike individuals are in the same squad seems a little to uncanny for me. oopps I guess some extra stuff was added since I last read this thread in regards to Slapper.

Only wish he had posted this a year ago. It always struck me as strange??? I thought this guy can't possibly be like this in real life, so when he had posted family pics it was clear to me I did not have all the facts about him. I have seen Sky in the DA and found him friendly and helpful, I have seen Sky in the MA and squelched him within a minute.
I think you're wrong here though Karaya, I don't take his banter seriously at all but at times it does detract from my enjoyment of the game. I've NEVER said I was "wrong" or "right" and really can careless, as I consider myself a friend of his. Same goes for Birdo, I remember him from when he was in 57th RFS Death Angels. Most piled on him, but I still call him and chat.
I personally think that those who "hate SkyRock" so much, are the one's that create threads such as this in the first place (in the hopes of proclaiming "I am better than SkyRock"). But they aren't, they feed the same trough. If hey want him to stop so bad, why give him more attention?

I sure I am not the only one to see this, but I see more crap and bravado coming from complete newbs, more than ever before, who must be observing the SR persona and thinking that it is SOP to act that way after getting beat/killed. Constant excuses and insults ... hardly ever see ... "Good shot" ... "Nice move" ... "Great flying" ... or just plain silence after being "picked" or losing a multi v 1 fight.
That is why I said that SR is too good of a pilot to have to result to that type of 200 banter ... he is a vet ... he is a well known pilot ... and he is good ... time for the SR persona to evolve IMHO.
Don't get me wrong ... In the 5+ years that I have been playing, CH200/CH1 was never all roses and lace, but I really don't remember, back in the day, the vast amount of truely mean-spirited dialog that we see now ... this is part of the "slum" behaviour that HT was talking about.
The SR persona is not new ... the orginal "persona" was created by Shane and as far as I am concerned ... Shane owns the "persona".

I never said I get upset :D just that at times I just don't feel like reading all the crap spewed on ch200 and country channel for that matter...that's not saying just Sky but from the general population these days....I would spend all my available time squelching people instead of flying.

Ch 200 has to be tuned too. It is used in place of the "All" channel for cross country chat. There is not eally a "salute channel". The salutes are just a simple dot command. " .s ArtooD2" You do not have to tune any channel to send and receive salutes.

Ah yes the SkyRock issue. There is "Mark" and there is "SkyRock". I, having never met "Mark" will go with my general assumption of people that Mark is a good person and is generally a nice person to converse with. I'm sure he has goals in life, honors commitments and so forth. Then there is the "SkyRock" side, a person in a caricature world, flying caricature planes, taking caricature bases. From what I have gathered from players that have defended him, he does have skill and is a great pilot. But his acid and somewhat very discourteous comments to other players on 200 has made a name for himself. Perhaps that is the purpose, a whimper for recognition and attention. Unfortunately the name "SkyRock" lately has become attached with very little positive remarks. Calling people cowards, the constant "I own you" seem to me to be a slightly uncalled for. Well you probably are a better cartoon pilot than I am. Congrats. I think that is great you are good player, but there is someone always better than you. In my own opinion there is something more than just being a good cartoon stick. Perhaps it’s about being a good sportsman. Which in my own opinion you have been not been one. But my only concern with “SkyRock” is the negative effects his banter may have on the younger AH generation, and the overall reflection back onto Das Muppets. I have only heard one other Muppet make comments like you, and that has only started with the last week or so. In my own opinion I think it makes you and your squad look foolish and idiotic. I’m sure you or any of the other Muppets could care less what I have to state and I am not trying to demean the rest of the Muppets. Just remembering what my grandfather once told me and what I remind my squad mates. “Your actions and statements not only reflect on you, but onto all of us as an entire”.

Like I have shared with you guys in this thread, I have spent a considerable part of my life on stage and in front of the camera, it is really easy to "clock out" and just go home! I am very grounded at home anyway with the kids and all! Don't get me wrong, all characters have qualities of their creator, at least in acting they do, but I don't go pushing the buggy down the isle at Kroger telling folks I own them! :aok

Dapup, you do know that just because I am loud, doesn't mean that I am the only one talking smack ingame! Everything I say ingame is about ingame, yet most of the smack talking you find on 200 involves mothers, sisters, sheep, family references, or perverted sexual positions. So to place the burden of which direction the game is going directly on my shoulders would be way off base! You will never see me type anything about anyone's family and I generally try to stay away from perverted sexual comments, although I will try to generate support for a mission with one of my old standard phrases, "Join the mission guys. Jenna Jamison is providing oral.......err moral support!" hee hee:aok

That is why I said that SR is too good of a pilot to have to result to that type of 200 banter ... he is a vet ... he is a well known pilot ... and he is good ... time for the SR persona to evolve IMHO.
Don't get me wrong ... In the 5+ years that I have been playing, CH200/CH1 was never all roses and lace, but I really don't remember, back in the day, the vast amount of truely mean-spirited dialog that we see now ... this is part of the "slum" behaviour that HT was talking about.
The SR persona is not new ... the orginal "persona" was created by Shane and as far as I am concerned ... Shane owns the "persona".
Shane was a mentor and I did take from him what I could. But you need not place the burden of how 200 goes on my back. I am just real fast at typing...ie I am loudest... my content is always and only of ingame material. 200 has always, since I have been playing, full of mother insults and sister sister insults and sexual insults and beastiality insults, so be careful when you direct a burden at just the loudest in the group! I do not use any of those type of insults, its all ingame type of stuff!

If anybody takes anything said to them in this game serious then maybe it's time to step away for awhile. Honestly, why would you care about what someone "says" to you in a game that you play for enjoyment (i hope) and also someone who you will probably never meet? If your playing to impress someone else than your playing for the wrong reasons.
People need to relax....If ya don't like what SR types then squelch him its that simple. This-"thank you sir, may i have another" stuff is just dumb. I myself find it fun to throw a little banter out once in awhile to get things going.:D Doesn't mean I hate the guy...It just seems to help get things going for me. I seem to play a bit better when I'm a tad worked up. I don't dislike ANYONE in this game.
For those of you that haven't DA'd with SR I encourage you to do it because like it or not he's good at this game and you can learn alot by duelling good players. I personally have DA'd SR and he taught me ALOT.

You are kidding, right? Most of the completely horrific things that I read on 200 come from the youngsters. The new generation of gamers, some of which have spilled over into AH, come already equipped with material that wont even get past the filters, bud! Just remember what you just typed the next time you are in range of a squeaker fight, I would post some of the stuff I hear from them but it would just show up as a few lines of asterisks!
The word I use that really PO's poeple is the word coward, which you brought up in your post here. Now if I am ingame and a plane jumps me, then bnz's me, then finally runs out of E, but saves just enough to run a full sector back to his base as I follow, only to turn back when 3 of his buds from said base start ganging me; to me this is cowardly. I don't know of any other word to describe that type of gameplay! If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then...............! Besides, game talk or smack talk, is just that, nothing more!
Someone posted in this thread that I am an antagonist, they are correct, and without antagonists, there would be no wars, and this is a war game! I can't tell you how much fun it was to try and shoot Shane down, or ManeTMP when I was a newb. When someone on country found where they were fighting, many people would auger and go to that base just so they might be the one to shoot them down. It was extremely exciting and was some of the best of times. Same can be said for the Ah1 LTAR's. When they were spotted at a base, it would spread like wildfire across the country channel and immediately you could see hordes of loaded down jugs and hogs and ponies upping in their direction. If someone got through their most accurate and lethal barrage of 37mm's to actually get one before they towered, you could hear the excitement in their voice as the yelled on range, "I just killed an LTAR!" I never hated Shane calling me a castrati, or Mane saying I was lucky, (well I did get bent out of shape at first) but what they said made me want to get better so that I might own them one day. And like I said, it was some of the best times trying to get them. So antagonists are usually what makes things spice up a little, turns up the volume a bit, and definitely raises the bar of play rather than to lower it, IMHO!
PS I see you on 200 almost everytime I am on, talking smack to or about me without me ever saying anything to you. Is this what you are preaching in your post here?

You know, I was kinda poking fun at Skyrock earlier in this thread but one thing I have noticed repeatedly in his responses to many of the comments made is how he was only beaten because the other guy had an advantage.
All I have to say Skyrock is if your going to whine everytime someone takes you out in the MA's because they had an advantage of some sort you need to stop flying there. There is no such thing as a fair fight in the MA.

Geesh, Hornet, you've been through this entire thread and you pick out that one comment?
I very rarely get shot down by a pilot that has the advantage on me, it usually takes more than one. I will however bring it up if they are gloating about the kill. Besides, when I log out, I never, ever think about it! It is just a game!
Now if you like challenges, then just ask me and I will go to the DA with you, and yes I will probably own you, but will definitely not show any type of SR 200 attitude with you. I will show you how I did things, and let you in on some settings and manuvers that will vastly improve your ability to kill in the MA.
PS like I have stated before, the only people I ever see typing words like, "whinning" or "crying", are people who completely get their arse handed to them in a 1 vs 1! The way I see it, you don't like my style of griefing, but your style of griefing is perfectly acceptable.......:rolleyes:

I have been both a squaddie of Mark's and an opponent of SR. As a friend of Mark's, as much as one can be friends over the internet, I am usually amused by SR's ownage smack but sometimes put off by his baiting attempts of calling people cowards.
Smack talk that includes such direct insults is really not very skillful... anyone can call people deragatory names.
Sure Shane talked good smack but as soon as he went with a direct insult like "castrati" it became a poorly veiled whine, plain and simple.
Entertaining and amusing smack talk consists of witty repartee' and zinging one liners where even the target can usually appreciate the humor.
I flew with Nath and Lev on occasion and enjoyed some of the most entertaining banter as we discussed the exploits of their latest victims. It was always gut-busting funny but fell short of direct name calling.
Direct name calling is little more than schoolground trash and it is artless.
SR would reply here that he is merely trying to goad his target to the DA.
My opinion of this, as little as it means, is that the motive simply does not justify the behavior. The vitriol and it's fallout just isn't worth it, even if the desired result(trip to DA) is achieved.
Those of you who have had the SR hook set in your mouth may want to consider this possibility: SR is challenging you to the DA because, in there, his one glaring weakness is no factor. SR is a clever stick with several tricks in his bag, certainly an excellent dueller/1v1 guy. In the DA, SA plays no role. It is possible that his one weakness is his less than stellar SA. I have gotten several easy kills on him in furballs because, by his own admission, he didn't see me coming.(The rumors are true, I'm sneaky)
If this is the case, I'm a little envious of SR. I'd like to have only one glaring weakness in the game. :aok
Those of you who haven't had the opportunity to wing/vox with Mark should do so. He's a lovable guy with a good sense of humor and a welcome comrade.

Perhaps it was when you went through your three hour rant on ghi. Perhaps I said your arrogance is overwhelming. And for this I do apologize, I do see now that there is a differentiation between "Mark" and "SkyRock" And perhaps you're right, a lot of the crud on 200 comes from the younger gen of players. Perhaps as adults we should lead by example. I admire people in the game like the LTARs, LYNX, and Rondar to name a few. People that will offer a <> to a good fight, or ignore a HO, vulch or collision and up a new plane and continue on their way.

I have never ranted for 3 hours, and during the occurace you are talking about, Ghi was right there with me the whole time saying stuff just as equally out of line!

I like the LTAR's as well because they can dish it out, but generally find it as amusing as I do.

I wasn't trying to lay the "burden of how 200" on just your back ... but some of it does belong there.
It doesn't matter the "type" of insult or the "degree" of the insult or how "loud" the insult is ... I just see no point in an insult in the first place especially from a seasoned vet or anybody. It serves no real purpose.
You say you are an actor and that SkyRock is a persona ... well then why don't you change the persona/act, cause as far as I can see from the way this thread is going ... some people understand the act and most don't ... some of us have tried to re-write the script for you, but you aren't reading it.

So because they come to AH with their baggage and see, after a short period of time, well-known and seasoned vet(s) carrying on in the same way, simply validates for them that it is A-OK for them to spew their watermelon too.
If well known, seasoned vets (there are quite a few of us here) were to try to stop or at least try to quell this stuff (and backed each other up), then this type of behaviour would probably become the exception as opposed to the rule ... which it is right now.
The vets have the power and as Spiderman's Uncle said ... "With great power comes great responsibility" and it's our responsibility to try stop/discourage this crap ... not teach/embrace it.
I very rarely go the the LW arenas anymore and one of the reasons is the constant beratements/excuses/mean-spiritedness that is constantly rolling by in the text buffer. You can't fight anyone these days and win without some sort of come back on 200 calling you some sort of name or a litany of excuses as to why they got beat and that you really suck.
I fly mostly in MW and it has its share of Ch200 tools too ... but due to the population or lack thereof ... it's not a constant bombardment.

Now, if everyone just folks and said, "nice shot", this game would be soo boring! Same old bnz, run, HO, rinse and repeat, gets very, very old. Like I have stated in the past, it was NathBDP that insulted me one night and I got soooooooooo MADDDDDDDDD, that I thought about what he said. After I had cherry picked ManeTMP, and said, "haha Mane is dead." His statement to me was something like this, "stupid dweeb, you got nothing but cherry picking, all you do is hover above a fight in your CHOG and cherry pick, then run at the first sight of a real fight, punk!". I was so mad I could feel my blood pressure rising. He said go to the DA and he would slap the punk out of me, which I did, and he did, I logged. Next day, I went to the DA and got slaughtered by Airvent. I still cherry picked for score for about a month, but started spending more and more time in the DA getting slaughtered by airvent. When I actually started learning some manuvers and was able to actually kill someone on my 6, rather than just run or stik stir and pray, I changed my name to SkyRock and wanted to do nothing but hang out with good sticks and learn how to fight!
Not to say that your way presenting yourself is not the way to be, but without the insult, I would probably be still cherry picking newbs and thinking I was doing somehting with my top 10 fighter ranking. Many folks learn by many different methods and strategies, I was stimulated to learn by a harsh comment that was right on target!

03 was a squaddie of mine in the 327th Steel Talons. He's been here for close to 5 years. He was a newbie and mainly did bombing flights. He left the 327th and the game for a good period of time. One day he's back as one of the best fighters in the game.
Skyrock taunts, but it's in jest. Even after a DA. He will show you moves, and give you advice. He's a good guy to fly with. I think that some people get so mad about getting killed in a GAME, and take stuff too seriously. Remember, if you get so mad about a game, you need a break.

Now, if everyone just folks and said, "nice shot", this game would be soo boring! Same old bnz, run, HO, rinse and repeat, gets very, very old. Like I have stated in the past, it was NathBDP that insulted me one night and I got soooooooooo MADDDDDDDDD, that I thought about what he said. After I had cherry picked ManeTMP, and said, "haha Mane is dead." His statement to me was something like this, "stupid dweeb, you got nothing but cherry picking, all you do is hover above a fight in your CHOG and cherry pick, then run at the first sight of a real fight, punk!". I was so mad I could feel my blood pressure rising. He said go to the DA and he would slap the punk out of me, which I did, and he did, I logged. Next day, I went to the DA and got slaughtered by Airvent. I still cherry picked for score for about a month, but started spending more and more time in the DA getting slaughtered by airvent. When I actually started learning some manuvers and was able to actually kill someone on my 6, rather than just run or stik stir and pray, I changed my name to SkyRock and wanted to do nothing but hang out with good sticks and learn how to fight!
Not to say that your way presenting yourself is not the way to be, but without the insult, I would probably be still cherry picking newbs and thinking I was doing somehting with my top 10 fighter ranking. Many folks learn by many different methods and strategies, I was stimulated to learn by a harsh comment that was right on target!

I found guys like IceMAW, Mathman, Kappa, Leviathn, WildThing, Fester, Delirium, Silat, Nomde, Frenchy, Fariz and many more to be the impetus for striving to be an "elite" pilot ... and none of them delt out smack like you ran into with ManeTMP. Each time I ran into these guys, they handed my arse to me and I vowed that that would not happen (at least with the frequency that they were pwning me) anymore ... and I think that I have gotten most of the way there.
ManeTMP, as good as he was was one of the biggest stunninghunks in all of AH. Anytime and everytime he was beat, it was always ... "You lucky punk" and a myriad of other insults or excuses and now that you mention it ... there is a lot of ManeTMP in your persona ... scary !!!
Well ManeTMP disappeared one day and was re-incarnated as BlueKitty ... who now lets the guns and his flying abilities due the talking.
Now that you have achieved the level of abilities that you have in this game, then I guess there is really no reason to continue the current "persona charade" of SkyRock ... change it for the better ... how bad could that be ? ... cause if you think that carrying the ManeTMP torch of belittling people is something that AH needs ... I couldn't disagree strong enough.

I used to have many good tiffie vs tiffie fights with Mane back in the days when I flew the Tiffie as my main ride (back in those days there were about 3 of us who flew the tiffie). I've never found him anyway like what skyrock is now.

SkyRock does not PM players talking **** to them like some squads are famous for. Channel 200 is optional and if you tune to it you know what to expect. PMing a player means you're scared everyone else will see.

No need to tune 200 out. There is lots of friendly banter on 200 that can be enjoyable. Simply squelch him, just like the oREo's. Problem solved.

So you are saying, verbally attacking someone is OK as long as it is on 200 and not via PM? The fact there is an audience to the attack makes it OK?
An attack is an attack, regardless of channel.
IMO, the "public" attacks are actually worse, because it sets a tone that can affect those who are not even a party to it.
As for your argument that 200 is "optional", that is quite beside the point. So is the point someone will surely make that he can be squelched. The issue is the behavior, not the mode of transmittal.

How is PMing someone who has chosen not to tune to channel 200 better? You are not forced to tune to channel 200, but you would be forced to listen to someone until you get the chance to squelch them if they PMed you. HTC has refused to put Perma -Squelch in this game and so that means your forced to squelch half the arena every time you log on.
P.S. When I let my nephew play I detune channel 200 and squad channel before I hand over the controls to him. But I've still had him coming to me and asking who was saying all these mean things to him on private vox because an oREo got upset about being shot down by a ten year old.

IMO, the action is still the same, no matter what window dressings people try to put on it.

New name? lol I've read every post in this thread! Most state hes a good guy after the bash him for being an stunninghunk when hes had some liquid courage. The only one i see thats bashed him constantly is HUB.. Which he has no business doing cause all the BKS were salamanders at different times. No offense but its true. So to start of in your favour I can concur with you that within your incessant tirades on 200 I have never seen you use any of the common American insults relating to oralising or incest. This IS the crux of the issue IMHO....while i think Mark does help folks out...he knows i feel it is blown out of the water by the fact he makes even more people have bad evenings because of his "personae"

What I don't understand is why someone would think it's a good idea to create this persona in an online game (that's not actually a role-playing game btw) that's an arrogant jerkoff, is disrespectful and intentionally tries to hurt other people's feelings and generate bad blood.
IN any case I have a hard time believing that someone who would go to that kind of effort to 'act' like that kind of person in a game for personal satisfaction isn't really a total bellybutton in real life, regardless of what their 'autobiographical' post says.

Secondly, you do not know me, and that is where you need to start, before you continue to jump on the bandwagon. Much of these tirades against me are unfounded. They have seen me on 200 and I am loud. I generally keep my little rants, to dweeb twit coward generalizations of one's gameplay. Yet I have over 50 screenshots to post of stuff that is completely horrible comments by other players and this happens constantly. Much worse than I have ever typed ingame!
Let me give you 2 examples:
1.
One of the LTAR fellows, really nice guy probably and we do laugh at each other just as much as we bash each other on 200. I would disagree with some of his comments and would find them to be of not my taste. But in no way to I think what he does to be in detriment of the game. I mean we are enemies and enemies in the truest sense of the word, do not get along, but are actually both just an click away from getting to know one another and respecting one another as humans that play the same video game. This happens constantly, which brings me to my second example.
You guys are gonna luv this! Me and Vanscrew, who is now a squaddie of mine and we get along just fine, but we used to not get along at all, and many insults were thrown back in forth. I captured a SS of one of the last times we argued but it is just the last bit of the argument. As you see I got muted(twice, which means 20 people dot reported....I think thats how it works) even though you can clearly see I stated, "you play like a coward tard". Now, what you can't see(because the text had left the buffer) was how he was badgering me, unprovoked I might add(meaning I hadn't said a single word to anyone, had just logged on and was upping along side of Vans), and eventually I started calling him out on how he plays the game. It wasn't untill he finally agreed to go to the DA(he was one of those lamer...."I don't DA" types) and that's when I detected that he was actually wanting to find out about me, and maybe even wanted to learn a thing or two. The funny thing is, he really wanted to beat me in the DA and flew very well, but it did end up being the start of a friendship. But, nonetheless, here is the SS:

I guess the issue here is that we don't want you as a role, Mark, we were very happy with you, being you. I am not sure why you think you should come here and play a part in the game, but.......don't.
All that said, I have found a number of friends online in the game (in my squad). Of course, for that to happen, we had to all be ourselves.....that's kinda what we are looking for with you, Mark..... Yourself.

There was once a skit on "Alice", not much unlike what we go through as a community, whenever there is dissent, bring in a common enemy. It is used until this day in stories and even in politics, it is Machiavellian in concept. I like being this cat who you want to hate, I am way to nice in person to not enjoy the role of the hated on a WWII flight sim! Fun!!! Fun!!!!

No ... we all don't do it. "SlapShot" is simply a name that I chose because fighter pilots have a "handle" and that is what I chose to use.
When you encounter "SlapShot" in my virtual cockpit you are really dogfighting with Rich Hoyt ... not some alter-ego that I use to not be me.
The way I treat and react to people is NOT "SlapShot", it's Rich Hoyt ... my flying characteristics, the planes I chose to fly, and who I chose to fly with have nothing to do with "SlapShot" ... it's all Rich Hoyt.
I have been to 2 Cons and have had the opportunity to put faces to names, and I would say ... the people that I met in person ... were no different (personality-wise) than the "named" pilot that I knew in-game.
Here are the ones that I remember the most cause I hung with them the most.

I also feel you don’t need a persona to play, and I’d say that 98% of the people in the AH community do not use a persona to play the game. I also do not see the need for a persona. But I’ve read all of the post from the beginning, and one thing just stands out to me. And I am no psychologist, just my observations. It seems that there is an inherit struggle between “Skyrock” and “Mark”. “Mark posts typically are well mannered and seem almost genuine, and then there is “Skyrock’s” posts, evil spirited and usually ending in a negative connotation. IMO I’d rather fly against “Mark”, as I often tell my fiancé, I play this game because I enjoy flying, I’ve always be interested in the WWII generation of planes/tanks, and the people in the community are fantastic, I have flown Bishop from my start, so many of the Rooks and Knights I do not know. People like BushLT, ThndrEgg, 1yBuzz, the LTARs, the 367th and the Arabian Knights just to name a few that make the game enjoyable. These are good people and help make the game.
So with that being said, ditch “Skyrock” and bring in the “Mark” that we’ve heard about over the last couple of days. <> 5PointOh (Nathan)

I was there ... and yes I hung out at the bar mostly with 38MAW, TMAW, and RedMAW due to the fact that I was in the MAW at the time and the real impetus to attend the con was to meet some squaddies.
Mind you, I had a blast and met all those guys you listed and more ... fdski was a hoot ... another guy, forgot his orginal handle but I knew him most as AHGOD. Man was he fun, and funny guy ... and liked to DRINK.
Loved the guest speaker who came with Curval ... the 'ol British gent that flew the Swordfish in WWII ... man did he have some stories to tell.

Coincidentally there was an article in this morning's local paper detailing a guy in nothern VA who had driven 1200 miles to somewhere in Texas who upon arrival proceeded to torch the trailer of some guy who had insulted him on some picture sharing forum. The insulter managed to escape with his life suffering from smoke inhalation only.
No matter what ridiculous excuses one can manage to manufacture/rationalize in their heads about "acting", role playing, etc. - there's only one word that occurs to me as regards the individual at the center of this thread and that is pathetic. I'm a little suprised that this thread hasn't been locked or that the "persona" hasn't been tossed from the forum and the game. The fact that neither has happened doesn't reflect very well on HTC imo. Whatever...

That year sucked. I was working in Indy, downtown even, (with a squaddie, ironically), and still couldn't go. A more centrally located con would be nice- doesn't even have to be this far east.

Don't know that I'd agree with that one Mark.
+Tiff, Slack, Rust, CorkyJr etc have all pretty much been me. I guess when I've done AARs with Corky or whoever, I tend to paint him as a 22 year old, scrawny, drinking, smoking, can't get lucky, crashes all the time, can't hit the broad side of a barn, survivor. he's not a 47 year old, non smoker, non-drinker, married 25 years guy.
But how he presents himself is how I'd present myself and I think the folks that have met me would tell you the same :)
Of course I've always put my real name before CorkyJr here too.
I know that some folks for whatever reasons hide behind a 'persona' in online stuff. And if they want to, so be it. I don't understand the reasons for it, but it's thier dime.
I do know that all the folks I've met from these flight sims tend to be much the same as how they come across online.

Dan, you are reading into it way too much. Those who know me, know me. Those who don't, don't. What people see on 200 is not what they will see, lets say in the DA. I do not bring brash SkyRock to scenario's when I fly them either. I will agree that SR is a part of Mark, just as Mark is a large part of SR. But for someone to come on here and think they know what kind of person I am from SR 200 bantor which is always kept to ingame references, to me seems a little weird. Even in your post here, you speak in 2nd person of yourself as a game cpid. I know you do not go around in real life belittling yourself as much as you do on these boards. It is your personna on here, probably there is much Dan in it, but it is more than likely different than the way you are in other RL situations.(Please no disrespect here, I am just speculating). SR is an antagonist and that is exactly how I like to keep it.

It is your personna on here, probably there is much Dan in it, but it is more than likely different than the way you are in other RL situations. SR is an antagonist and that is exactly how I like to keep it.
But knowing what you really want from the game, wouldn't you agree that the SR persona works against it?
If it's all about ticking people off, then why would anyone near you not HO the heck out of ya, or gang you to death every chance they get. What point would there be to learning and how does that benefit the AH community as a whole?
You clearly have the teaching skills for the ACM but if everyone has to get past the SR persona first, then you end up losing a lot of newbies who only see that SR is a 'jerk' and see no reason to change the way they play cause the message is contradictary.
I guess I'm of the belief that those of us who've been around a while set the tone and how we do that gets passed on to the next batch of cartoon pilots.
That's where the SR persona works against the ability you have to share the talent to 'fly"

I think the proper term would be "humble" ... Dan posts in a "humbling" manner ... I have never taken the context of any of Dan's postings, about himself and what he does in the game, as "belittling" ... big difference.
I would presume him to be a humble and courteous person in RL ... just as he is here in the game and on the BBS.

I'm not telling you to change SR's persona Mark. That's up to you and if you are having fun, so be it.
Just keep in mind the impact such a visible persona has on players, in particular new ones.

The proper term for what Dan does is self deprecating humor. Dan pokes fun at himself. It puts others at ease, knowing that he has a sense of humor, and does not think too much of himself. It is real and genuine.

Exactly! I understand what he does, but it is definitely not my style. Trying to compare my style to his, and saying that his style trumps my style, is going against the exact advice that he and Slap are trying to give! I do not play the game to put others at ease, I play to shove it in your face! Now, that is very different than how I might act in real life, hence, the difference in my ingame personna, and my real life person. Really simple!

I feel bad for even writing this but having spent so much time reading this, I now feel obligated.
Regarding the HO. It was a tactic used in RL when the situation dictated. I have no idea why it is so detested in this game.If you play the game from a historical sim standpoint, then yes, it is a valid way to get kills. If you play like it is a fly around and kill game then it is a bad thing. The great thing is both are true and there is enough room in the game for everyone to play how they like.
As far as SR's banter, I have seen it and mostly thought, this guys has problems someone with a Doctorate needs to address. I find it interesting that he states the banter is not to be taken seriously and it does not reflect the real him, however we are to take seriously the bio he posted. Along that line, I would ask if SR teaches the youth in his PE class to act the same way towards competition that he does in the MA. It makes you wonder. I do give him kudos for this. He must be extremely talented to be able to fly and type all of the crap that he does. For the record, I will shoot to kill from any angle I can at any opportunity I get. maybe one day I will be as good as most of you guys and I will be able to pick and choose my kills shots. Till then watch ur 12!
Most people are only as good as they are because they stopped trying to get kills any way they could and started trying to apply Air to Air combat techniques to gain the advantage and set up a kill shot.
AS long as you fight by the luck method you will only be lucky not good.
If you really want to be good then abandon your spray and pray and learn how to fight. The only way to learn how to fight is actually getting in fights.
If your first move is a ho, then all you learned is how to pull the trigger. Most people that have a clue will just avoid you waste of bullets anyway, reverse you and take the easy kill you offered by being ignorant in the way of the Peelot jedi.

Clearly what the game does for you and what it does for me are different things.
I'm not out to be the best fighter jockey the cartoon world has ever seen. I love that the game provides me an outlet for all those years of diving into the history and lets me play at being what my heros really did.
Correct me if I'm wrong. One of your goals is that people learn more then just HO and run and that they take the time to learn ACM and maybe have a clue about the planes they are flying.
Don't you believe that how we as vets in this game influences how the new guys respond to things? Don't we have a bit of responsibilty to help them understand what's best about the game?
If that's holier then thou, then I'm guilty. To me it's just passing on what the vets passed on to me when I got going in these games.

I feel though, you are implying that what I do has no positive influences and that noone out there likes to play the way I do. Clearly there is a percentage of players in both categories that enjoy my way as well! SR is definitely not the poster child for humble respected vet guy, nor is it my intention to promote SR as one. There will be folks that are completely entertained by SR's antics, and some that will hate the air he breathes. As it should be.
I enjoy what I do, and I have helped many, many players find much confidence in themselves through this game. I will continue to help people, especially those who show the balls required to ask for help. I might even "provoke" some into finding strengths in them they did not even know existed.
Please, know that I respect your style, Dan. It was how I was raised, and if I ever get the chance to meet you in real life, you can expect to see a humble teacher, definitely not SkyRock!

I dont beleive anything I read on the net unless I can verify it three other ways. I don't care enough to do that in this case. I do wonder about a man that feels he must post a bio on an AH web board to "prove" some point. Like is this bravado over the net compensation for other areas in his life that fall short of his own expectations. Like the kids who played dungeons and dragons when I was in HS. In school they were outcasts, social misfits, and mostly unpopular, unathletic, and unattractive. But in the D&D world, they were kings. They ruled. The net is a place where this person now thrives. I ain't saying this is SR but if the shoe fits.....All of this is pointless banter, not worth the time it took to write, but we all have our foibles.
