is there an downloadable game like this that has some kind of free mode like how ahII used to have 8 player???
sry i have to even ask but i cant pay the subscription...

seriously though, what if this person is 11 or 10 or 12 years old, does not get a "so called" allowance, has no means of possibly mowing a yard or collecting aluminum cans and have someone to give him a ride to go cash them in, etc....
he may really enjoy the game, yet has no means of paying for a subscription........and his parents pays his school lunch account online so they do not have to bother with handing him money for lunch each week?
what is one to do? not everyone has the benefit of getting everything they want, when they ask their parents for it.......
it really is a shame that a few select neverwas' players had to go a ruin it for some others, who might have eventually became a part of the online community when they did become able to afford it, or get old enough to scrounge up the 14.95 to pay monthly........
how many of you, have took the time to think about who actually got hurt, vs who was taking advantage of free play........
sometimes it is much better to think out and respond rather than to throw out useless banter for others to see........

What would be the best "box" game one can play offline that is similar to AH?
AH is the only flight sim I fly, so I have not a clue what's "Good" out there.

I agree and usually I do, but here is the problem I had with that original post...
I don't know his situation and do have sympathy for those that can't afford the game for whatever reason.
BUT.... I DO think it is a little dodgey to log onto a forum that is created for a game that provides people's livelihood and ask for a referral to a competing game.
The dude obviously has access to a computer. He could google around and do some research and earn his right to his free game play rather than expect a handout on a competing website.
If he's young, it will be good for him to learn now how to get out and create opportunity for himself...

As he said he is "sry" for posting this on to the forums, but everyone has a right to ask questions and he thought that, us, the AH community, could possibly help him and find what he is looking for. We have to have some knowledge on what other games out there because we found this game, no matter weather we saw it on TV, or just searched.
The only thing that I do not agree with this post is that he should ahve not posted it on the general disscusion, but in the O' club. Also that we are hijacking this post compleatly.
So just answer his question. I do not know of any Free sim games out there Austox.

I find myself sometimes mystified at how someone couldn't come up with .50 cents a day to feed their future addiction. The cost of a soda, two cigs, 1/2 slice of pizza, 1/6 of a gallon of gas, 1/2 of a bottle of purified water, buss fare, all these things cost the same or more than AH does.
The return on investment in entertainment value for AH is phenomenal, the only thing I can think of that's cheaper would be sex with your spouse or significant other, and even that cost is debateable.

Back in the late 50's and early 60's I had a BB gun addiction. The cost of 500 BB's was, if I remember correctly, .65 cents and. On any given Saturday morning if I wanted to go shooting but had no money for BB's I'd go out and solicit my neighbors for some yard work or car washing, whatever I would think that they needed. After 1/2 day I'd have enough money for a month or so of plinking on the weekends.

When AH first went Pay to Play the cost was $30/month. Even at that cost, a dollar a day, the ROI was a very good deal. Being an adult I found that that wasn't too hard to afford even if it meant that I had to sacrifice one of or part of one of my vices like a beer, 4 cigs, one less trip to the fast food joint a week, or so on. Not a problem. Even when I had to take a break for work or computer problems I still paid HTC because I wanted AH to succeed and grow because I knew I'd be back.

The bottom line is, if you want to play enough you'll find a way if you are willing to try. Coming in here and asking for a no cost alternative will get you fewer results and a whole lot more grief than using that space 'tween your ears and searching the net for yourself.

To the OP: try IL2. I've never played it but many ex-AWers love it.
It's not AH of course. Personally I would pay quite a lot more than is currently being charged for this game (AH) but I understand it's not for everyone.

There are any number of games that you can buy boxed and play online for free.
But, you have to buy the boxed game first.
Christmas is right around the corner!
As to answer your specific question, sorry, I'm not aware of any free download, free play flight sims...although I wouldn't be surprised if one were out there somewhere on google.

Absolutely IL2... It isnt as easy as AH but the server size is at least up to 128 players... beats the heck outta 8 player.
You can find it for about $19, download patches for free online and never have to pay another cent. I warn you, the full realism rooms are hard but plentiful plus it will make AH seem much easier because of the engine management and such that you do not have to deal with here.
Their forums are also a great info source.

Alot of my squeeker friends from 8 player now dont play the game anymore because they got rid of it. Something should be done so that the people that cant afford the monthly bill have a way to still pay. :cry

Well the democrats are working very hard on that right now. By mid 2008 there should be section8 sims and or internet gaming stamps provided. The quickest way for these squeekers to get back into the game might be to call their congressmen or child services but I hear some of these calls are being redirected to DCFS which might work out better for them and us as tax payers.

Sometimes its more efficiant and to the point to ask out right for an answer.
So he googles.... finds a game he thinks compares tp AH... Now hes gonna ask for an opinion of the new found game. So now hes back at square one...asking a question.

Thats right, have a baby and you are guaranteed to get WAAAY more that $15 a month! Heck, you may even be entitled to a couple HUNDRED dollars a month, PLUS FREE FOOD!!!!!!!
All you have to do is pop a little 'un out, spend maybe 4-5 hours a day feeding, chainging and cleaning it, but the rest of the time you are FREE TO PLAY AHII FOR FREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

While this post was made in jest I do in fact know of a girl who had a baby just so she wouldnt have to work and would have more time to play an MMO. Sick.

You should look up il2. It's not free however, you have to pay $10-50 for the game depending on which one you get.

Download Warbirds. You can play online for about a month free, but if you don't want to pay a subscription fee, you can still play offline against computer drones, at several levels of difficulty, and in a variety of missions. That will teach you a lot about ACM, and the flight model is almost as good as AH and much better than IL2.
But when you get the cash, subscribe to AH2. It is better than IL-2 in every way except graphics, and better than Warbirds in all aspects.

Air Warrior... a lot of the AHII crew talks about how they came from that game, and then moved to this game.
Since I predominantly fly the Spitfire IX and F4U-1A, I fly in their styles.
How do the AW Spits and Corsairs compare to the AHII versions (i.e. will I still have my full-flap F4U-1's turning like Spitfires and have my LF IX Spitfires zooming with Corsairs)?

I think Targetware is the only free to DL and play sim out there. But theres not many folks playing it. No real structure to the gameplay yet.
