Some great fights on film so far. The P-38 and Ki-61 duels between Sunsfan and Lazer were great and waystin, I thought you had reversed the tables on Sandwich in the second duel. That could have easily gone the other way.

I haven't heard from Mazz since Thursday, we were going to meet up this weekend to duel. He mentioned a heavy snowstorm coming through and I wonder if he lost power or internet over the weekend.

I considered letting waystin move forward but if I did he'd have to take the slot that showed you won the duel against him in order to match him up against Vinkman. I'm not willing to do that. You got the win and the record should show that. Instead of a plane assignment between you and Vinkman it will be listed as Forfeit and Vinkman will advance. waystin's out by a loss, you're out by a forfeit and Vinkman advances just as it should be.
In hlbly's defense we did get together on Thursday, unfortunately he had a new stick and was working out the details. Having fought hlbly before and had good times with him I offered to meet him Saturday morning. Later that day we broke our motor at race track, with a points race scheduled on Saturday night and a ton of work to be done to get it ready. Come Saturday morning I could not take an hour or so to run home and duel him at our arranged time, my fault completely. The bracket has been set, however I would like a one night reprieve and try to get this done. After that I will go with whatever you have to say BaldEagl, I regret we forced your hand in the first place.

Since batfink posted that he was awaiting Bearkats in the DA I asked batfink to PM me evidence of the duel confirmation which he did. Unfortunately, there was no specific time mentioned in that PM. Due to the fact that I am unwilling to advance a player who might cause further disruption in later rounds I am giving these guys 48 hours to either get a duel in or post a convincing argument why they should advance. If no results are posted by midnight Tuesday with no posts from Bearkats then batfinkv will advance as he appears to be more active in arranging this duel. If Bearkats posts it may lead to a random draw to see who advances depending on the content of his post.
Well if he posted anywhere in the last two days it would be helpfull ;)
My squaddies add/or Stodd could all verify that i was online last night waiting for a number of hours. I would much prefer a dueling result to a bye/random draw myself also.

This is becoming more trouble than its worth, three people had fun fights and walked away from the outcome with no hard feelings....

OK. I'll grant a 48 hour extension. There will be a new plane assigned after the results are posted. If no results are posted then an advancer will be determined by random draw since both of you appear to be at fault (no posts from hlbly and a missed duel by you).
In the future please post these things before I update the bracket.
- All duels will take place in the DA canyon area.
- All duels will be 25% fuel load out with player’s choice of gun package and convergence.
- All merges will be guns cold (no firing until you have passed your opponent's 3/9 line).
- All merges will be co-alt at 10K until within icon range at which point a merge break can begin. In addition all players shall observe a 10K ceiling at all times prior to the merge.
- Anything goes after the initial merge.
-Me and hlbly screwed the pooch as far as the parameters of the fight though.
-We forgot the 10k merge alt and the fact that the fights were supposed to be over the canyons.

Actually, BE did consult a few about the rules for a good bit of time....... It would be unfair to do duels like most of the top ? say 20% who duel at fields like 23&24 in the DA on the deck with no alt for "mistake recovery"? hope you get the meaning of that......i understand to a point but i think the canyon and unfamiliar planeset kinda contradicts ur " give everyone a fighting chance " theory. would say they heavily favor the skilled more so than a lower alt would. ps sorry im on a bus otw to work with nothing better to do but argue a point w/ my cell.
the top duelers are so dang fast and can merge very quickly with out having a good bit of seperation.....

Dropping anything labeled bomber is easy and the odds of acually being assigned one of those two planes is only 1:30.5.

SkyRock and i had a duel set for last Wen. i showed up 30 minutes early and waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes. i have PM SkyRock and still no answer.

I think dumping ammo on the sly is a bit cheap, should be agreed on by both contestants or at the very least, announced by the dumpee. It would make a huge difference in some planes with heavy gun packages. There is no reduction in lethality in something like an F4u or P47, jusst a reduction in weight. But then if everyone is going to do it, it has to be done. Just my opinion.

also I so think the "typical" way of dueling IE; fly past each other wing tip to wing tip is not really a great way to duel, at that point it is just a matter of who can bank around faster, who ever came into it slower will bank around faster, lame does not show skill in my mind.

There's nothing saying you have to go wingtip to wingtip, the rules state that once you're at icon range you can begin your merge break. if you don't want to go nose on with the guy, I don't believe you have to, could be wrong though.

Since you lost your duels with Drkn but didn't post the results to confirm the loss, Drkn was asked to submit films to verify his win. The Review Committee has identified rules violations on the part of Drkn, specifically breaking the pre-merge cieling in both duels.
We request that you submit your films for further review. We need those films no later than midnight Monday. If no rules violations are found in your films then Drkn's wins will be disqualified and you will advance provided your films are from take-off (even if they aren't please submit them). Just FYI most of us did agree that your violation of the alt ceiling didn't actually influence the outcome of the fights but they were violations nonetheless and as such constituted grounds for disqualification.

I had scheduled via pm to meet manurin today at ~2:30 CST, I see that you already did a random draw but I'd like to actually do the duel. I'm sittin in the DA right now waiting and would like the same chance a few others were given to get our duel done.

The majority of people who play AH2 are from the US, I feel that most aren't aware that I'm English, living in England and that there's a major time zone difference between our two countries. I work from 6:30AM to 4:00PM doing manual labour, I come home to the offices to continue on with the business side of things. I'm just too tired to do anything tonight.
It's a shame that we couldn't duel on Monday, I accept that we are both busy people and 'hit happens.
I feel that there's no point me being in this competition, it's just way to much hassle for what it's worth. Even if I won, or advanced by default, I don't fancy staying up 'till 2:00AM to duel Dedalos.

It's too late for this tournament but I'm not opposed to the idea of segmenting off the Euro guys to a specific portion of the bracket to at least help get them through the early rounds but they'd still run into the time difference at some point. Another idea might be to just make a completely seperate European based tournament to run independently alongside the existing tournament. There wouldn't be a need for them ever to meet but they could.

If you don't mind me asking, since both fights followed roughly the same path - what is it you were doing to turn inside so effectively?
I was bringing the nose around as tightly as I thought possible - playing with trim, flaps, throttle, throwing in mild yo-yo's, etc and still, you got in behind me, after a minute or so, slowly but surely, each time.

I agree it will make no difference everyone still has a fight every round. If it helps the european's and the us players for the first few match ups I'm all for it. Only thing I can see is after the european's best fighter wins how are you going to put them back in to the regular bracket because by the third rd. there's no byes, just a thought.

i misunderstood the rules i thought we had to stay 10k till the merge. i didnt know we could dive down to pick up E when in Icon range.
- All merges will be guns cold (no firing until you have passed your opponent's 3/9 line).
- All merges will be co-alt at 10K until within icon range at which point a merge break can begin. In addition all players shall observe a 10K ceiling at all times prior to the merge.
The merge dive is a dueling standard used by many if not most duelers. Now you know.

I believe what he means is that the really really good guys need us lesser skilled guys to fight and beat andto keep them interested. That's how I read it anyway. If they only had straight noobs to pick on, well that just couldn't keep their interest or skill level up, but guys like us can give them enough of a fight to keep them sharp and wanting more, without really putting them in serious danger of losing. That's how I read it.
I feel good about that, because I feel like that post right there elevates me to the middle skill level tier from the bottom ones! Hehe.

Three is enough in my opinion. You gotta bring your A game to the first fight and that's how it should be. Seven fights and you start to adapt to each other, Three fights and it's just whoever plays it best on the day.
What is wrong with that? In boxing whoever gets the first knockout punch wins. In football the team with the best score at the end of the game wins.
why should a lucky shot not be considered a valid win?
The way it stands now we have one random draw. If the result of that first fight is purely determined by the random plane choice, then the loser has round two to choose any plane they wish to even the score. If then the score goes 1-1 then the other person ahs their choice of plane. So one random draw and a possible one choice plane each. Nothing could be more fair.
Anyhow, if what you suggest is true, that the first fight winner will win the match, then all you will see in seven round matches is mostly 4-0 results. Whats the point in that?
No, what I suggest is the winner of the first fight will win the match the vast majority in this best of three setup. In a seven round match that wouldn't be the same. In a 7 round match, say it works out to where you lose fight 1, win fight 2, and lose fight 3 (his best plane>, you now pick your best plane again and beat him, (2-2). Now you've seen how he fights in his best ride and he's seen how you fly in your best ride. The score is 2-2 and you still need 2 more victories to win. All of a sudden it becomes a lot more interesting. Now it actually starts to become a chess game and an actual dueling experience.
The bit in bold is not correct. There is no difference by the second round in a 3 or 7 round match. It is still the second round. If you win the second round in a 7 round matchup there is no reason why you shouldnt win the second round in a 3 round match up.
I have to agree with bat...by the third fight I had an Idea of how he was playing the game (teasing me) and I adjusted....(any more than three I would have been kickin him :lol :lol :lol yeah right)...now sure a player like bat,grizz,bruv,,blah de blah can change their plan at will so for the lower tier fights this wouldn't be a problem but when you are getting to the finals these are guys who can turn fights with a snap of the fingers. The competitors could make a plane choice that offers a fighting chance not some big bore tear a new sphinc.... type and allow for a decent fight...after the random draw that is...competitor choice holds bearing on type of fight.
Yeah that's not the point. Winning the second round isn't too tough because it's supposed to be your plane of mastery. The 3rd round is the issue here, having to fight against your opponents best ride to decide who goes.
If you are much better than someone you will dominate them regardless. However, if two pilots are somewhat in the same ball park in skill, it's a complete crapshoot. It's like playing 2 innings of baseball and deciding a winner. It makes no sense from my perspective, and you are the only active 'dueler' that I see not in agreement.
Well if the purpose of the tournament is to give everyone a good chance then it succeeds. If the purpose of the tourney is to decide who the better pilot is on any given sunday, it fails epically. My 2c.
I totaly disagree. More rounds gives more chance for the losing party to succeed. On the 'given sunday' that you were last in the bracket, JB11 was the better pilot. Are you disputing that fact, and that if you had had seven fights you would have dominated him utterly? You're suggesting, using that final as an example, that you were the better pilot on that given sunday but due to only having three rounds the lesser pilot prevailed? I lost the first bracket final to moot, not because of the round numbers or random plane choice, but because on the day he flew better and took it 2-1. So I am not biased on this matter as far as I can see. I truly belive that three rounds is enough for the purpose of this tourneyment.
If you are the better pilot on the day you should win no matter if three or seven or twentyone fights are fought.
Well it goes to prove that when it was important, you won that set of three duels. Me stalling the spit14 was my mistake, one that should be punished. I then won my choice of plane, think it was the G6. You then won your choice of plane, 190D9? You say it was a lucky under the nose shot, I say it was a convincing victory. Rather be lucky than good any day. So we were equally matched in the chosen rides and you flew better in the random draw. You were the better pilot overall in the three fights we had for the bracket, no doubt about it.
I'm just stating my opinion, it seems one that is vastly outnumbered as far as opinions go right now. :D

Maybe that is where the debate springs from, I think luck should be a deciding factor in the fights along with knowledge and on-the-day performance. The evolution of humans was certainly just dumb luck, I like luck :)
It would get a bit tricky when you can just go from g-2 to g-6 (or any other plane with numerous sub types)But some subtypes are dramatically different. E.g., 109E4 to any other 109 variant. Spit I to any other Spit variant. Those are the most obvious examples I can think of, but I'm sure there are others.

I'm thinking about this change for the next tourney:
Best of five from the quarterfinals forward with the player who is behind in the series getting to choose the next duel aircraft. This means they could choose as many as three times consecutively to try to get back into contention (they lose the first and second duels then win the third making it 1-2 and get to choose for the third time for instance). If the series becomes tied at any point then the loser of the last duel chooses.
Again, I don't want to make major changes as the tourney seems to be working well as it is but I think this change might be interesting in that it still leaves the door open for an underdog to have a chance while giving the final eight more duels to fight.

hehe thanks for vote of confidence sir! I'm thrilled to make it this far again. Cactus was by far the better pilot on the day. Good luck to all three of them in the last fights.
Oh and big thanks again for the third tri-annual dueling bracket BE, truly is the best dueling fun that can be had. The pressure makes all the difference to how it feels. S!
If you need more evidence of batfinks dueling ethics, take look at the shots he held fire on 1:20 and 1:30. Imo clean shots that he passed on in spirit of a good fight. Big <SALUTE> for that.5 rounds needed for next tourney :rock 10 for finals
Awesome turn around by cactus. It looked as if it was over but cactus sure enough edged it back to even. It seemed to me cactus was able to do this because of his vast experience of riding the thin edge in the P38 where batfink seemed to fish tail stall a little too much trying to find that line. Just shows the importance of winning fight one because the match WILL be decided in the winner of fight 1's best ride.

Because, beginning in April, I will be working every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 1 p.m. till about 10 p.m.. Then, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, I will have practice from 1 till dark. When I get home I'll have to do all my homework, etc. Basically, my schedule is so hectic, it is almost impossible to commit to a game.Your a Senior right? this year should be sham tastic for you
