Title: Version 2.27 Patch 0
Post by: titanic3 on January 25, 2012, 02:50:58 PM
Version 2.27 Patch 0 Changes
======================

Added bump mapping and specular mapping to planes, vehicles, buildings and other objects.  The bump mapping options can be enabled or disabled in the advanced menu of the graphics detail menu.

Added short range ground clutter in the form of grasses, rocks, and other small vegetation.  The options to control this feature are located in the graphics options menu.

*Note that enabling new graphics options may have a negative effect on your systems performance, especially when used in conjunction with long visibility distances, antialiasing, and other options found in the advanced graphics menu.

Added an in-game background downloader for the hi-res texture pack.  If you are running a max texture size of 1024 or greater and your hi-res texture pack is out of date, it will perform a background download of a patch.  Once the patch is complete you will be notified and the patch will install the next time the game is started.

Added the Fi 156 Storch.  This is the first observer plane and can be operated out of all fields except for carriers.  It has the ability to carry vehicle supplies but the supplies are not parachute equipped and must be landed to be successfully deployed.  It also has its own set of icon rules.  Salute to cactuskooler for providing the default skin.  Note that the Storch uses a fixed pitch propeller that can be oversped like the WW1 planes.

Added 88mm flak at all bases.  The AA round of the 88 uses a variable fuze to set the distance at which the round detonates.  The distance is displayed on the left side of the screen and uses the tank sight range keys (c and v) to change the distance.  The mouse wheel can also be used for fine adjustment if it is not mapped to anything else.  It can also switch to AP rounds for use against tanks.

Changed how icons settings work and the icon distances used in the main arenas.  There are now 4 classes of icon settings governing aircraft, vehicles, observer aircraft, and flak guns.  The distance at which each of these classes can see another class can all be individually set.  The PT boat is now in the same class as vehicles.

The below radar altitude icon setting has been replaced with sysvar that controls the % reduction in icon range when a plane is below the radar alt.  Added another sysvar to control the % reduction in icon range when a vehicle or plane is stopped on the ground.

The following icon rules are implemented in the main arenas.

Aircraft now see tank icons at 1250 yards instead of 1500.

Observer aircraft can see tank icons at twice the distance of other aircraft.

Observer aircraft icons are visible to 3k for all other classes.

Flak can see aircraft icons out to 9k.

Planes below radar alt have their icon distance cut in half.

Being stopped on the ground cuts your icon distance in half.  This works for planes and vehicles.

All other icon settings remain unchanged from previous including 6k aircraft icons.

External view mode is now disabled in manned guns.

Icons now mask when the vehicle or plane is hidden behind vegetation.

Added a less obtrusive dialog box that appears in the upper left corner for items such as join requests.

Fixed some typos in the Panzer IVF loadouts.

Added a bomb loadout option to the 109E.

External engine sounds are no longer heard when your engine is running.

Changed the default fighter launch point at ports and vehicle bases.

Wirbel and Ostwind turrets can no longer take on indefinite damage after they've been destroyed without eventually destroying the vehicle.

Changed the cockpit head bounds on the F6F.

Changed the default skins of the P-47D-25 and Spitfire I.

Fixed a bug with the mission editor not saving missions properly.

Fixed a crash bug that happened when jumping between bombers in a formation after a bomber had been destroyed.

The film viewer now saves its window size and position between sessions.

Collision messages are now recorded in films.

The CM weapons option screen now displays the hangar aircraft names instead of the shape names.

Found missing stars and returned them to their splendor.

Corrected shading when using detailed terrain on water during dusk and dawn.

Corrected issues with the sun not displaying as intended such as how it displays on the horizon and.

Fixed a graphical issue where the elevators would not always display in the correct position.

Fixed an issue where a defunct squad member could not be ejected from the squad.

Fixed a number of issues with the sun and horizon such as an uneven horizon fade, the sun getting cut off above the horizon, and hills not blocking the sun correctly.

Fixed a display issue in the B-17's landing gear.

Fixed an issue with enemy Panzer 4F turret not rotating correctly.

Fixed some missing polys in the town.

Fixed an issue with the A6M2/M3 landing gear shadow not rotating correctly.

Fixed issue with A6M's not showing squad art.

Fixed issue with P40's landing gear indicators.

Sun shining through hills fix.  Excellent!

Icon changes across the board are going to make for some interesting gameplay...  In particular:

Planes below radar alt have their icon distance cut in half.
Being stopped on the ground cuts your icon distance in half.  This works for planes and vehicles.

Goon hunting is going to be different.

Curious to see how things develop in practice.

Re:410-  Er... guys, you do realize they said 'next open vehicle slot' right?  They didn't say 'next update' or 'this is the next vehicle we will release'.

This is a great change, imo.  If your tank engine is running, you can not hear other gv engines, running, stopping, or starting up.  I will get back in there and test out of we can hear treads and wheels.

Other people are downloading at the same time. Try the alternate mirror.

And holy hell, I just restarted my PC because I wanted to see if I couldn't run the game fully maxed (I could before but with 10-20 FPS), the moment I clicked 8192 shadows, the whole game stopped (I had 4 kills  :cry), the PC froze, then it restarted. Must have overloaded my GPU or something.  :uhoh All is back to normal though. I won't be doing that again.  :bolt:

Question, does that mean a plane on the runway/ground (except carrier) has their icon reduced to 1/4? Do the effects stack?

RE: ER......you do realize the ME 410 is a plane, right?

Vehicle is a generic term for something you get in that transports you, but you're right, it has a more specific meaning in this context.  All I meant was they said it would be in the next open development slot, not that it would be the next one they release, or that it would be in the next update.

Still haven't heard anybody complain about how the new icon settings will make NOE sneak attacks and running away from a fight easier. What's wrong with you guys? :headscratch:

Have no fear, that'll come in a couple hours when people have had a chance to see it happen a couple times.

download complete and installed. The aircraft models look very nice. The hills look like a bald guy with hair plugs.

My only complaint is the 190 points I just lost when the game locked up. This wasn't a half hour into the game. I think we need some more beta.

My download has crashed twice, no big deal. Patience is a virtue I'm finally mastering to some degree.

No disrepect intended but wouldn't it make sense to do several patches/updates over the course of several months as opposed to one massive update every 6-9 months? And yes, I join the chorus of borish boobs pounding the table for that blasted Me-410!

I had the same problem reported above with the auto patch. Once downloaded the installer didn't run, several attempts, then I tried to launch it manually, it shot some kind of Windows error. Sorry I didn't take note of it as I'd become frustrated but it was something like NICS security violation, and that's probably way off. So after deleting the tmpAH...exe file I tried again but no joy. Just the out of date message.

I went to the front page and dl'd the whole game, made a backup of my original game folder and installed on top of it.

All's well now.

Turned on all the new graphics, nice!  :x

Did a manual download of the game and Hires pack and installed offline. Everything is working fine.

Once I understood how to use the C & V keys to set the fuze timer for the 88, I was single shot killing everything in the drone pattern 98% of my shots. The flack88 are going to make low alt anything inside of 15,000 feet of the base suicide if they are not targeted first in any raid. The timer is 5 seconds to explode at 5k yards.

So now the hoards will send in a pre hoard to target DAR, ords, fuel and Flack88. Lord help the mission that lets those regenerate while everyone is busy picking/vulching and chasing GV around in the bushes near the town with the troops low in a C47. Heck it's going to be fun picking CV planes off the bow with our own puffy ack when one gets parked in our face. Hitech should put about 2-3x the number of manned Flack88 at feilds and some on the shore bluffs along with the shore batteries and increase the range for the shore battery Flack88 fuze to 6k.

That would take a bite out of hoards but, give a wider range of space to hide in by the defenders until the Flack88 batteries are taken down.

The new Forum Cry.......PERK THE 88! It aint fair....waaaaaaa.

Runways seem too bright now.  In RL I doubt they stood out as much.   Not complaining just saying would be more realistic if they were toned down a little, imho.

Also, I see a line either above or below the sun depending on where I am.   Be good to eliminate that.

Same thing. The runways, I don't mind, seems easier for me to spot it from afar now, which is good. The sun can still get a little fix though. But nothing major.

Tank Town FR's were terrible.  60 to 2.  Turned down settings and still awful.

3 disco's and counting.

Its always bad in there though. I run everything maxed when I not there and can get 60FPS. But i have to turn EVERYTHING off in there and I'm still lucky to get 40-50 FR. Thats what happens though when you got 100+ people within a few miles though lol

Had to buy a computer that would run the game with graphics fully maxed. Thus far is the only issues I am experiencing are:

 * computer keeps calling me Dr. Falken

* when I click on Aces High, it asks me if I'd "rather play a nice game of chess"

Make sure you disable any anti-virus software before starting the download.

Why? does the update contain a virus?

hehe kidding

Not an option I have the same problem now.

Just keeps re-looping back to what you see now every time you press yes.

For some reason, first time I installed update, it went to AH beta folder. Second try and no problems.

Last night our squad had about ten guys on throughout the evening. Most of us had multiple CTDs - a first I think for any of us playing the game. I turned off all the new settings and still, more CTD. Happens when coming close to the ground mostly while landing or maneuvering. With settings on / off. I had five personally. FR suck with the new settings 15 - 30... This with a machine that is across the board better than what I played with 60 continuous FR before RL pulled me away a little over a year ago.

I am one of the ones that loves the new transmission as it lets me fight a tank like, well a tank! I am enjoying the game quite a bit and the patch looks excellent but it is not stable and it seems to me I need to borrow NASAs Cray supercomputer to play it to full effect. More than likely there is some weird combination of settings that I need a rocket scientist to show me to play with a good FR. No upping perk planes for me for awhile for sure.

Download from the alternate site was a much better choice... took about 13 minutes. D/L update from game was going to take just over 90 minutes....

got 2.27 installed with the hi-res pack and 2048 textures, got all vid settings to max, shadows, the whole works, all the eye candy and bells and whistles.

played for about 2.5 hours, planes and GVs..... mostly in TT...... FR never dropped below 60.

Game looks GREAT. 1st GV sortie knocked down 13 bish tanks with a M476 before getting over run..... a blast. if only the key wasn't stuck in the ignition on that tank! :aok

gotta fix all my stick settings and map my controls again, but nothing that isn't the usual with the "big" updates.

Overall, HT & Crew, I say:

sounds like it, Changeup. you def have plenty of vid card if I'm reading you right that you have 2 cards in SLI, what processor are you running? memory?

FWIW, I have had problems in the past with the "major" updates when I allowed it to update in-game.... this time (as I had to do last time) I uninstalled the old version in Windows and did a fresh install from the download off the webpage.

I don't know if it will help, but if you haven't already, try uninstalling and doing a fresh full install.

Plenty of processor but it's behaving like only 1 card is running.  nVidia control panel sees them both for sure and I've got the second card that had slower clock speeds OC'd to match the faster card...GPUs are the same....wow.  Downloaded the update from the site...not through autoupdater.

I turned off AH's V-sync and Forced On my video card's V-sync. I turned on Triple Buffering too with this update. The only additional eye-candy I added was the bump-mapping on my own plane. I don't know if I bump-mapped the buildings, but I can't tell in flight. I only notice from inside the tower, where I try to spend as little time as possible anyway. Can't notice ground clutter unless you're flying in the weeds so I turn it off in flight. The draw distance on it is really jarring anyway if you're moving quickly. It seemed to be making my screen stutter anyways even though I was reporting 60FPS.

The game already doess triple buffering.  You really do not want to force it in the video driver.

All in all sounds like a great update. Alas, I just fried my motherboard, so it'll be a few days before I can try it out.

External view mode is now disabled in manned guns.

Boo to this. Or can you at least still unlock the view? It takes about a minute to rotate a 17 lb.er, about 1/4 second for a crew member to turn his head and look somewhere other than where the gun is pointed.

Wirbel and Ostwind turrets can no longer take on indefinite damage after they've been destroyed without eventually destroying the vehicle.

Yay to this!

This was by far the most annoying thing about the game before. Nothing like pumping 20 or 30 85mm AP rounds into a Wirbel from the side and still not killing it.

Found missing sheep and returned them to their splendor.

A guy can dream, can't he?

Runways seem too bright now.  In RL I doubt they stood out as much.   Not complaining just saying would be more realistic if they were toned down a little, imho.

Also, I see a line either above or below the sun depending on where I am.   Be good to eliminate that.

I'm gonna give it a day or two to break-in, but I had that same opinion (probabley because I was paying close attention to graphics and apearances last night), the new concrete color is too white/bright.
